Thank you for this video. I struggled for 5 minutes trying to figure out how to get the blade in a brand new utility knife. This was super helpful. Thanks!
Amen Sistah! I struggled to get it back together after removing ONE screw. Should be able to get one screw back in it's place, right? Au contraire.... 20 minutes later I admitted defeat. Then I found Nick.. You're my hero :)
@@zapyawhereithurts Same here, thanks Nick. I took the screw out and the rest of it fell on the ground. I gave up and put it away and decided I needed to find out how to put it back so I could use it. Thanks very much.
Thanks for the detail instructions! It seems simple, but it fell apart after I took the screw out to change the blade and I couldn't for the life of me get back together. Your tutorial is fantastic.
Thank you for the instructional tutorial video. If you have never had to replace one because you are new to this this type of knife, this was a clear, close up video. You did a wonderful job for those of us who because of serious life events, like the death of a mate, have had to learn new things. Thank you again.
Thank you sir. I spent a good 15 minutes trying to do it myself but the new blade just didn't fit right - then watched your video and that little notch explanation did it! Thanks.
Your video was the most helpful one that I could find for this task! Especially with the camera angle facing inside the hardware of the device, so I could see how the blade fit into the sliding switch. Now, thanks to you, I am that much more independent with tools. 😁 👍🏻 THANK YOU!!
I appreciate this so much! I had some heavy carpets that I am taking to the dump and they were too heavy for me to carry so I went down to my late husband's workshop and I found what is now my very favorite tool! It cut the heavy wool carpets like a charm, and your visual explanation is perfect! Thanks so much, Nick!!
Your video was terrific! After struggling with the packaging illustration and the official Stanley video, I watched and followed yours, and I was able to assemble my very old knife easily. Thank you.
I so very much appreciate you making this video. I am a Semi-Tool Savy female. I have a STANLEY 10-499 that I could not get to retract or move out to cut things. I messed around looking at other videos of how to put new blades in the Quick Change Stanley, but not one of them showed the inside and how to place the 'blade holder" in correctly. Every time I thought I had it fixed, the sliding mechanism wouldn't move. I was getting a little frustrated, but after watching your video, I saw that I had placed the blade and holder too far back on top of the little teeth that moves the blade in and out.Just moved the blade and holder to the front of those teeth and WALA! Works great now and I can get rid of the foil sheath I had made to cover the blade that stuck out and wouldn't retract.
I hadn't changed the blade in years. When I opened the utility knife to replace the blade, everything fell apart and I wasn't sure where to put the sliding thingamajig. Got it working now. Thank you so much!
Thank you! On my own for the first time in 35 years. I thought adding the blade would be easy, but not so for me. Your tutorial saved me from taking it somewhere for help! I am brave!! 🦁
Thank you! I am 72 and not accustomed to using tools. New experience for me. I watched the Marshalltown video for their retractable knife 6x. Useless. Your video taught me exactly what to do.
I'm not a thick person but replacing the blade and then putting this fiddly thing back together was a puzzlement until I discovered this video. Thank you. I'll never have this trouble again.
Being a widow sucks! Thanks to your video I can change a blade in a utility knife. I looked at a few others, but yours did the trick! Thanks so much. You tube is my go to and it didn’t let me down!
Thank you so much for your clear images and commentary explaining the process of replacing a blade. I couldn't get it to slide along until your brief comment about pushing it in. Very grateful!
This 76 year old woman just finished a countertop project and used an exacto to remove the taping. I needed to change the blade and took it apart but could not get it back together properly. Your video saved the day! Thanks so very much.
I have never replaced blades in a box knife and found this video and detailed instructions very helpful. I had no difficulty and feel quite successful! Thank you!
I've been trying to figure out how to change the blade for about a half hour and decided to check out your video. Perfect. It literally took seconds. Thank you so much!
Thank god for videos like your. As a girl and a smart person. Ppl take for granted that a task like this should not need videos. But I don’t use my box cutter often, so I have been using the blade it came with since I bought it. It finally broke, and I needed to put new one in. ( good to also know I can flip it thanks to ur video!) I put new one in, and it’s working. So thank you for making a video that does really help everyday ppl!
I never leave comments, but yours is the first video I could find, after a sh*t-ton of looking, that actually explained this well. Thank you, I can continue packing now. BTW, I love your knife, you can tell you've actually used it. -Az
Thanks, mate I am scouring a wall ready for the tiler, I have been playing with this damned knife for 40 mins, I thought there's gotta be someone who knows there will be someone like me appreciate a howto video!!
Thank you. I was about to throw it away because I could not get it back together. Turns out I wasn’t pushing in the slide button. Thanks to you I can keep my new knife that just needs a new blade.
I agree with AZ H. This was at least the fourth video I looked at, including the "official" Stanley Tools video, and the only one that actually showed all the details necessary to put the knife together after I'd taken it apart to remove the cardboard tag and DROPPED the open knife. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video! You're a life saver. I recent bought one of these utility knives for work and I didn't have no clue on how to do this. The illustration on the packaging wasn't no help so I started searching on here. Your video was the only MOST helpful one that I could find. I really appreciate this.
Thank goodness for this. I brought my utility knife into a store when I needed new blades and the fellow there gave me a package of very long blades with those ridges to snap them off. No wonder I couldn't do it, they are the wrong blades! Now I know what to buy.
Thank you! I just bought my 1st box cutter knife and it was really fiddly to set the blades, but your video rally helped me to do this without losing any fingers. 😆
Thank you for this video! I was able to put my box cutter back together, after opening without thinking of the consequences lol Now the blade is sharp, and I found out there are extras in case both sides are dull.
Brilliant video! It's baffling to me that some companies don't make tutorials on this. I guess they are banking on people getting frustrated and buying a new knife instead. Mine was a little different (Trojan brand). It has a hard plastic cover with a switch you push to "change" to get the cover off, then it has the screw underneath. Just thought I'd share for anyone else who has a different design like me.
Thanks! I ordered a Stanley 99E from Amazon and it is so hard to move the blade I thought it was defective. After I watched your video, I realized that I was tightening the cover too much.
Thank you for this. I have a very similar knife and it took awhile to figure out. All I had to do was look at time 2.03 and it became obvious. Mine is a Stanley 10-989.
Thank you SO much!! I was hoping a kind soul had made a video, as the little photo that came with the knife wasn't enough for me to figure it out. I appreciate your time and efforts in making this video! God bless you! :) P.S. I didn't know you could flip the blade!! Thank you for that!! :) I wrote down that tip on a small piece of paper, as well as the name of this video, and folded and put that paper inside the knife so I'll remember this tip and your video in case I get stumped when it's time to change the blade! Ha! Thanks again!! :-D
This seems like a simple task to some, but it's tutorial videos like what this gentleman makes that are the backbone of modern society. Thank you.
Amen, dad just did it and didn't explain. I was caught needing to do this after he passed.
Thank you for this video. I struggled for 5 minutes trying to figure out how to get the blade in a brand new utility knife. This was super helpful. Thanks!

Bless you my dear man for helping this old lady figure this bloody thing out. I am most grateful

You got that RIGHT, Ren....I am in the same struggle LOL!
you stupid old bag
Thanks for the detail instructions! It seems simple, but it fell apart after I took the screw out to change the blade and I couldn't for the life of me get back together. Your tutorial is fantastic.
yes, same for me…it was like a jigsaw puzzle with a piece missing but the video showed me where I was wrong.
Thank you for the instructional tutorial video. If you have never had to replace one because you are new to this this type of knife, this was a clear, close up video. The Stanley video is terrible, with no closeups plus that awful background music. I gave up after 30 seconds.
I so very much appreciate you making this video. I am a Semi-Tool Savy female. I have a STANLEY 10-499 that I could not get to retract or move out to cut things. My husband is at work and not answering his phone. Many thanks to the man that took the time to put this video out, I appreciate it very much!!😊
My mom and I couldn't figure out how to assemble the knife. Thank you so much, your video was helpful!😊
Thank you! On my own for the first time in 35 years. I thought adding the blade would be easy, but not so for me. Your tutorial saved me from taking it somewhere for help! I am brave!! 🦁
I looked at three other videos that were unclear and frustrating. Thank you for your easy and simplicity
Thank you ! Someone who went slow enough and in detail to make it possible to follow!
Nick, iam detailed oriented I love how you explain step by step instructions Your really good at explaining all lM glad i found you !
Thank you! I am having to do a lot of stuff by myself since my husband is disabled. Very helpful. Much appreciated!
Fiddled with the knife for 20 minutes before I found your video. Just in time for the holidays!
Thanks.
It only took me 20 minutes to figure out how to get that blade back in, thank you so much!

Anybody here in 2020 !! Well thank you for helping me fit new blade in my new utility knife !! ..... from London!!
I've been trying to figure out how to change the blade for about a half hour and decided to check out your video. Perfect. It literally took seconds. Thank you so much!
I am so glad I found your video. I was so frustrated I almost threw it out but it is old and I love it. Thank you, thank you for helping me.

That groove on the blade is the magic, also discovered that on my blades the grooves are different so they can fit different types of utility knives.
Hella straightforward and helpful for such a seemingly simple task. Thanks!!
I never knew you just turn the blade around the first time! Genius! Thanks.

Single moms everywhere are thanking you for this
Thank you! I feel kind of “bad ass” being able to do this now myself.
Thank goodness for this. I brought my utility knife into a store when I needed new blades and the fellow there gave me a package of very long blades with those ridges to snap them off. No wonder I couldn't do it, they are the wrong blades! Now I know what to buy.
Thank you! I was ready to return mine .... it wouldn't have killed Stanely to put some instructions along with the knife! Thank you RUclips!
Thank you! It fell apart and I have spent 45 minutes on trying to do this. Mine is the second kind with a spring! 😸
Thank you - for many years I struggled replacing these blades NOW I understand thanks to you.
Thanks! I freaked out a bit when the blade holder (?) popped out, I had to look up a vid and yours was really easy to follow :)
Geez!! Thank you!!! I had the moving part reversed!!! I’m so happy!!! You rock!!
I was struggling for so long and this guy does it with one hand
Every time I go to replace a blade, I always fiddle with it until I figure it out. This time I went straight here. Thanks.
Thank you . Just tried to put one back together and couldn’t until we found you!!!
THANK YOU!!! it was driving me nuts! didn't want to have to call my son.
Thank you a million. I was struggled to find way to change the blade :)
Thank you so much!!! I was ready to tear my hair out!!! Many blessings to you!!!
Thank you! This was really helpful! Not sure why I was struggling.
I appreciate this, my guy. I am not a tool guy and this came in handy!
Seemed like such a small matter but RUclips University got me squared up again. Thanks, Nick!
Thank you! I just bought my 1st box cutter knife and it was really fiddly to set the blades, but your video rally helped me to do this without losing any fingers. 😆
Instructions made easy and simple. I found the whole video hilarious and knowing that it was not me, CHEERS!
Thank you for this video! I was able to put my box cutter back together, after opening without thinking of the consequences lol Now the blade is sharp, and I found out there are extras in case both sides are dull.
Me too-another lad lady who was GREATLY HELPED by this video! Thanks!
Thank you! I like to do DIY projects on my own as much as I can. This had me stumped, but not now!
Thank You! Your excellent tuition made it easy to follow.
good demo!
Thank you so much! This is a simple enough task once I know what I'm doing! I appreciate it.
I never had a male role model in my life so I literally had no clue how to do this 😂😂 thanks man
I have not watched it yet as a commercial is going but feeling hopeful after reading the comments, I am feeling very inadequate!!
Thanks man I appreciate it. My daddy and grandpappy never taught me this, I’m almost 30 and learning how to work with my hands
Thank you! I was struggling to get my knife back together! Very much appreciated!
Thank you!! I was ready to buy a whole new box cutter but found out I didn't need to!! :D

Thank you, I can use all sort of tools but was overthinking this blade change till I saw slide back and out.
Thank you so much!! I could not figure this out until I watched your video, you explained it really clearly! :)
this is the only helpful video i saw. thank you! seems simple but i could not figure it out and i looked at other videos and those did not help.
Thank you ! I had no idea how to put it together and you saved me. Thanks !
Very Helpful, and easy to understand!
Thanks! I ordered a Stanley 99E from Amazon and it is so hard to move the blade I thought it was defective. After I watched your video, I realized that I was tightening the cover too much.
Thank you, because for whatever reason yhe instructions on the cheapo plastic one I bought for some reason had instructions for the normal knifes.
Thank you ..I always take them apart, talking myself thru all 3 😂😂 steps.. then immediately turn into a moron! You rock 👏👏👏
Best instruction video ever ! Thank u!!
Thank you! I was about to throw it out the window!
This was sitting on my dresser for a good week now I actually get to use it!
I just want to say thank you thank you !!! just now I could't fix this but watching your youtube

Thank you Nick. You’re the best
Thank you for this. I have a very similar knife and it took awhile to figure out. All I had to do was look at time 2.03 and it became obvious. Mine is a Stanley 10-989.
Thank you, great video explaining how to change my blade in my utility knife. I did it!
Thanks this video was very helpful.
I thought it was just me! Thank you! Your video helped!
Outstanding assembly instructions!
You’re a life saver! I was putting the blade in wrong
Thanks Nick, just changed the blade. 😊
Thank you SO much!! I was hoping a kind soul had made a video, as the little photo that came with the knife wasn't enough for me to figure it out. I appreciate your time and efforts in making this video! God bless you! :)

30 minutes that took me. Figured out I wasnt suppose to overtighten the screw
Thanks a lot!! I couldn’t figure this out!! New home, new tools! 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️😂
I felt really stupid but this was helpful, it looks like a simple thing but damn if that blade isn't right or the lever floats it is frustrating
Thank you so much. This was driving me nuts!!😀
Thank You! We were about to throw it across the room!
Perfect instructions. Thank you!! 😁
Thank you. I did IT. And didn't have to ask my son!!!
Thank you. What a life saver!
Thank you. This has been a huge help.
