    Oh, I thought you went there, then looked for a cabin, until you found a property you liked, then once you found what you liked, then bought your property. So you went there already having bought the property, and upon arrival met the previous owners and got the keys to your new property. So did you make an initial trip there first in search of viewing properties before packing up and making the trip? If so, how long was it before you found your property? A few days, a week, two weeks? That was one heck of a trip going there! You are very brave to leave so much behind, and start over! Kudos! to you - awesome! Wow! I'm impressed!

    • @AloneinRemoteAlaska
      @AloneinRemoteAlaska  2 года назад

      Hello Charlotte! I have been looking for property off and on for many years. One of my daily "fun things" to do was search Zillow. I actually went to Alaska to walk this property only because I didn't want to buy it based on the pictures in Zillow. I just called the owners to take a look at it. I didn't have a realtor yet. I may have walked the property for about 20 minutes when I put an offer for full asking price. My original plan was to buy a cabin and just go up to Alaska 2-3 times a year to make sure it was ok, fix up a little here and there and just vacation there. But after I bought it, everything happened to just push me to go now. And so I did. I actually managed to get passage on the very last ferry ride from Washington to Alaska! Once I arrived, I basically had 3-4 weeks to get ready for winter! It has all been fun so far! Some scary times with my roof over the winter but all worth it! Thank you so much Charlotte! And thank you for the compliments! 🧡

    That was a tear-jerker moment for me when you turned into the driveway. Reminds me of when I bought this place and my mom was already inside cleaning (I was coming from 3 hours away). She had a beautiful welcome sign and other things too. Damn, I miss my Mom.

    Hello Fellow Alaskan 💕 I have been watching some of your videos, (haven't gotten them all in yet) but enjoying them. Welcome to the most beautiful place on earth (yes I'm biased). We also have a RUclips channel, we live in a dry cabin, (not remote) yet, definitely going to happen someday. I have lived in Alaska for 50 years, I grew up in what was the bush, but now modernized, I loved the lifestyle so much, that although we live just outside of Wasilla, in a neighborhood, we live a simple life. We did get the chance to take the ferry, (matanuska & Kennicot) this last summer, when we brought a motorcycle up. It was a great adventure, we camped on the deck and brought our own food. Angie

Brian is also an Army veteran, and his last duty station was at Ft. Hood, about 3 hours from me now. He's given me a standing invitation to visit them if I ever get over near Juneau, and I've reciprocated as they usually go to the Kenai to fish at least once a year. I had to take two ferry trips. First one was three days and the second was about 1 1/2. In between the ferry rides I had a three day layover in Juneau. You do not need a passport if you take the ferry. If you take the ALCAN highway that cuts through CANADA and you may not need a passport to enter CANADA but you will need one to get back into the United States. And going through Canada, they want you out as quickly as possible. So limited sight seeing. The ferry ride is an awesome experience! You can camp on the deck with a tent. Sleep in the main room or get a cabin with a shower. Food is basic but good. Your best bet is to take the ferry in my opinion. I hope you get a chance to see Alaska! Be careful though! Alaska is addictive! :-)
