Wish more cameras had this live comp feature, like bruh, it's so useful to see your image being composed as light is coming in and not having to worry about over exposuring other parts of the image when you're doing the light painting. Makes the traditional light painting methods look overwhelming and complex with a lot of guessing, masking, etc...
Wow! That was fantastic, you made it look so easy to do that, I know for a fact it wasn’t as I have practiced similar for years and still cannot perfect things. I have noticed quite a lot from you in this video that might help me improve so I will be out trying it very soon. I was over in New York just last week for 3 nights and I loved it, what a fantastic place, there was so much to see but not enough time for everything which was quite sad really. Still I know now that I will have to come back again for a much longer break in the city and I will be hoping you are there doing a workshop because I will most definitely be attending if I get the opportunity. Thank you for sharing this video, I do think it has been a great help to me and probably many others so keep it up, you are awsome ! 😁👍
Very well presented with some really great examples. Makes the mind wonder what else could we do with some of these techniques . Thank you for sharing this.
Well I have watched all your videos and now I am flowing you on facebook and you have help me find a new passion I love this and you and my om1 lol thanks for sharing your knowledge so freely
Awesome tutorial! 😍 I love light painting, but rarely do it any longer. Great inspiration and ideas for using a model with light painting. You have inspired me to create some fun portrait exposures before summer ends in Chicago. 🔦💡
HI. So I went out last night to attempt my first ever portrait/light painting. It turned out okay, however Some of my images have large black shadows on one side. My set up was a hand held speedlight that I fired at my model ( I am think I was not quite at 45 degrees to the side and that is waht is causing my black outline?) and a light saber. any thoughts/suggestions/tips? Should I fire the flash at the end, or the beginning? At 45 degress, or straight on? Perhaps I was too close (in behind with the light saber? Or not close enough?) Love your video thank you very much
Brilliant, thank you Susan I'm inspired to have a go at light painting. How did you put your camera in a slight strobe mode? I would like to try this with my Olympus, I always thought you needed to have a strobe effect on the torch.
💥 This is all so great and creative. The effects are really cool. 16:31 how did the light come out segmented like that.?? As if the flashlight was on strobe or something.
How to get the face when doing light painting ? Do you have to use any flash to get the face or without the flash, only with the light tube, the face can be also visible ?
How to pose so steady? With several examples in this video, I noticed that photo in 13.20 (minutes), the model is more blurry than the other photos. Need your tips and trick for the model.
should you put camera in manual focus, then add some light to the model and focus. As long as she dont move out of focus, thats were I assume the higher f stop like f9

Absolutely fascinated by the flash.
So fast it’s invisible between frames of the video.
Mind blown.
Thank you Susan for sharing all your educational and very fun tutorials. Love your passion for light painting 😊

I'm looking to get a speed light and was wondering what you used?
This is very cool thank you

Your Olympus camera can be set to BULB mode to keep the shutter open as you fire your speedlight from the test fire button as shown at the 4:37 mark.
Great tutorial! Thank you!

This was awesome Susan. Can you apply these techniques to landscape at night or is it only portrait?
Go for it. Photography is writing with light. Be creative!
