Purrfection at its best! second favorite song of steely Dan next to peg..friends at work turned me on to this channel now I look forward to your mixes!
This one sounds so better than some of the other Purrfection stuff, this one actually sounds like they got their hands on the multitrack rather than just doing an edit with a tape and a razorblade.
Totalmente de acuerdo Justin, esas épocas doradas de estas grandes bandas de los 70’ 80’s fue de lo mejor, cómo está canción q es una obra maestra para mi. Saludos
This song reminds me of spring break 1981. Although I had graduated the previous year, my friends always took an "extra" spring break in the winter lol. I remember taking off work and going to Florida for some fun in the sun. We had a blast. Danced the nights away; partied with friends afterwards and enjoyed a leisurely breakfast after all was said and done. It was the last so-called "spring" I ever attended. I miss those times; playing volleyball on the beach, tanning, swimming in the ocean. I'd give my entire vacation today to have one day back then. Bittersweet memories. 😉❤💙💜🧡🏄♀🏊♀💃🕺🌴🍹🧋🌅🌞🌝🌊
How to thank you, DJ, let me count the ways!! When I'd listen to the original, at the end - the last of that glorious percussion - the whole of me moving ever so precisely with that sound, the swishing of the maracas (?) that beat that captures, I'd always say 'ooooh that should be another 5 minutes' or '... a ten minute song...! Thank you DJ. Bookmarked forever! Steely Dan, one of a kind.
I absolutely love this song, especially the Purrfection version. Funny thing … for the longest time I had thought the lyric went “Moved down to Scottsdale (AZ) where the hell am I” … I live in Arizona and always thought that was cool to hear that in the song. Sadly, I was disappointed when I realized he was saying Scarsdale.
As a young kid in early 1980s Australia i recall hearing this on the radio at parent's dinner parties and bbqs. I think i was taken by this song back then which led to me buying a second hand copy of Citizen Steely Dan Disc 4 at a market at 16. The rest is history. Such a smooth n slick laid back masterpiece. Thanks Don and Walter. Love how this track grooves off into the distance. 😎🎹

Loved this LP from College... Can never go wrong with an LP from Steely Dan... Once again.. Great job! My favorite song of the LP was "Time Out Of Mind".. Love the Intro... Hint Hint hint!!
You pulled off another amazing song that needs to be a hit! This Gaucho album may be the last one Steely Dan recorded before Walter Becker died. I loved many of Steely Dan's albums for many years. DJDiscoCat, I am fortunate to be subscribed to your site.
Eer.. WB passed away in 2017. Gaucho was released 1980 and they had Two against nature in 2000 (album of the year 2001 Grammy) and Everything must go in 2003
@@warrenstrachan9765 I have been a fan of Steely Dan music since 1970. I have collected most of their albums, and "The Nitefly" by Donald Fagen. Steely Dan was my first favorite producer group. I become disheartened when I see or hear about singers and musicians dying. Thank you for tapping or typing to me.
nice mix! My brother is 1350 miles away, and we always have "Steely Dan Sunday" - i'm ususally cooking, he is cleaning..we play the same 4 songs so we are "together"....looks like this is getting into the mix!
Yessss....my Favorite Steely track immortalized by the Disco Cat himself I was put onto this song at a beach party in Neptune Beach FL back in '04-ish, a friend explained what the song was about and I fell in love...for a kid with more hip hop leanings it was a revelation, great song
DJ DiscoCat, I always thought this song was one of The Dan's rare misfires, a deadly-dull snoozer that mysteriously became a hit back in 1980. This mix opened it up for me, and now I hear how good this really was. Muchas gracias for this!
There are so many good live versions of this song. The best part is when it meanders when he's trying to remember the name of the drink. HE says something different every time.
*Cat, thanks so much for creating this re-mix. I always knew that whenever the perfectionists known as Steely Dan released a new album, it was sure to be produced (recorded, mixed, etc. using state-of-the-art equipment) to dang near perfection. Hi DJ Disco Cat Good music thank you🙏♥️🎧🎶
February 14, 1980…steely Dan has proved to all of us that Hey Nineteen was more than just a number. It’s a stroll down memory lane.
AFTER 42 YEARS, THIS IS STILL A PURE JAZZ FUNK CLASSIC.
I got to admit that i feel a little proud of a colombian national product being mention in this song.
