Have listend to Richard Shindell perform this for years, a real favorite! Until today, I had no clue Jeffrey Foucault wrote it. Two definitive versions, one beautiful song! Thanks to both of you for brightening my day!
@@skiplewis9872 well the guy does have an evocative delivery, maybe not according to you or me but I wouldn't call it garbage though. Different streaks for different freaks, et al
I wouldn't worry about Richard crediting Jeffrey. They are friends. Besides, its usually other artists covering Shindell, so I am sure Jeffrey is honored. Both versions are fantastic in their own right.
Northbound 35 Through the iron hills Under infidel skies It's two hundred miles to drive You won't be home I saw an elsebound train On the overpass In the driving rain Every ticket costs the same For where you can't go CHORUS: Mustang horses, champagne glasses Anything frail anything wild It's the price of living motion What's beautiful is broken And grace is just the measure of a fall So I rolled into your town I passed the smokestacks And the ore docks down off of Main And the sky spun around With her diamonds on fire We fought all night and then we danced In your kitchen You were as much in my hands As water or darkness or nothing Can ever be held CHORUS It's just flashes that we own Little snapshots Made of breath and of bone And out on the darkling plain alone They light up the sky It's 51 and driving south Ain't it funny How things'll turn out I never even kissed you on the mouth When we said goodbye CHORUS
How anyone can compare this to the original or how Foucault plays it is beyond me. Foucault’ phrasing and passion makes the song deep on so many levels. This version to me is like a typical pub strummer, the rhythm and sound is there but only superficially.
If you voted for Trump then rs said don't bother showing up @ his shows . Not very liberal . Especially coming from someone who shills che guevara tee shirts . Btw rich , how about you learn the words to your songs that you wrote . 85 % of the shows i attended you forgot the words ; once you even a bo rt ed ( there's a liberal term for you ) a complete song . Do us a favor & stay in argentina .

Thanks for adding this! Awesome cover, awesome artiste....
Super fantastic! I like RS version more than Jeffrey's. I seen both artists in small clubs in Wisconsin play the same song. Bravo to both of them!
Wonderful song!
the most evocative voice I have ever heard
You need to get out more...... any of Focault’s version are infinitely better than this garbage.

Northbound 35
Through the iron hills
Under infidel skies
It's two hundred miles to drive
You won't be home
I saw an elsebound train
On the overpass
In the driving rain
Every ticket costs the same
For where you can't go
CHORUS:
Mustang horses, champagne glasses
Anything frail anything wild
It's the price of living motion
What's beautiful is broken
And grace is just the measure of a fall
So I rolled into your town
I passed the smokestacks
And the ore docks down off of Main
And the sky spun around
With her diamonds on fire
We fought all night and then we danced
In your kitchen
You were as much in my hands
As water or darkness or nothing
Can ever be held
CHORUS
It's just flashes that we own
Little snapshots
Made of breath and of bone
And out on the darkling plain alone
They light up the sky
It's 51 and driving south
Ain't it funny
How things'll turn out
I never even kissed you on the mouth
When we said goodbye
CHORUS
Andy posted some Jeffery Foucault. I've always liked Schindell's cover of a JF song so I'll put it up.
He gave credit in the album literature as required. You are not required to give credit when you cover a song live.
He didn't Jeffrey Foucault credit for writing the song.
@GpMvp82 RS typically plays in DADGAD, and this song is no exception

I totally agree. This is not in the same league as any of Focault’s versions. I can’t wrap my head around these people saying this hack is better.
The
Are you kidding? I just listened to Jeffrey Foucault perform this song and there's hardly a difference, except RS's guitar part is better.
good but try listning to the original ,,, jeffery foucault
This is terrible compared to any version Foucault has on RUclips. Not even close!
