Hi Jelle, I’d like to thank your cuttings for not striking because otherwise I’d be very upset not to qualify for shipping! Very good motivational message though, thank you! 🙏
Yeah. And considering I have many plants already, I usually do not care whether things root or not! The endresult.. Having to be carefull moving around in the garden to not topple things over!
Enjoyed your videos. I’ve got some nice Acers from seed . But I,m going to attempt a few air layers. I’ve not seen them done your way. I have done them however from dropping and pegging low branches.will get me some spagnem moss today. There are to beautiful Acers where I work both are over 50 years of age and maybe older as the building was built 1845 .I was lucky years ago I cut a large fig tree back and used the straight branches as support for some garden peas. After the peas had cropped I went to pull the branches and all had rooted. They were the brown turkey variety.
I should try some fig cuttings. From experience, Ficus Benjamina does well with water in a vase. Should only take less than 2 weeks to see popcorn development sporatically on the portion of the stem. Fig is not one to be a node-specific Root bearer! Wherever you see the pores on the Stem, that is a potential root!
Trying my first cutting of edible fig right now, but it's not as big as those. I've had cuttings of ficus and other species that have lost leaves, but still rooted and began to sprout new ones. I've also had cuttings that died almost instantly and never did anything, so...🤷
Mine (taken using Jelle’s method) are all still looking great in their plastic bag! Looking forward as well to a follow up video to learn when and how to repot them!

@@GrowingBonsai You are sure I know ;-) and ... Jelle ... Thanks to your portrait of Jörg I got to know and appreciate you. I like your easy-going and relaxed approach to the subject of bonsai.
Now I can help you I have 3 trees in large pots I have cuttings groing in my greenhouse and one of them is now fruiting wish I could send a pic for you to see . I grow mine in bonsai substrate they take a wile to root ..
Do you have fakebook? I have a page there, I suppose one can post pics there? It is not like I have not rooted them before though :). Just thought I should post a fail video. But I guess I will not do that again. People do not like it! :)
@@katyb2793 True! I guess that is why I did put out the video. These channels where nothing ever goes wrong.. Sorry, but stuff does happen to the regular backyard bonsai grower (But also to the profi's!)
If you send those ex-cuttings to Tony he could do a fusion tanuki with them and his blowtorch! I loved this episode but I don't believe you are not perfect. I think you are pretending so people think you are just human like the rest of us. By the way...that wasn't fig...it was Potentilla :)
Haha, fooled nobody did I? WIll be my least-viewed video, I am sure! In this case I really did not try to make them root, I think you are right! What shall I say.. I am not sure Tanuki is my thing. Maybe I should try one. I did get a new blowtorch!

😁 hahahaha, ok then
When you don’t care if they root.. they usually root. When you really really want them to, they are finicky! 😂🤣💙🐦
🤣🤣 praying and talking to them helps though 😁

Do let me know how the layering turns out!
🤯 I never realised about which side of the blade to cut with! That's a great tip, thank you!
You like it when I put tiny little hints in the video like this one? I have always been surprised that this is not more commonly explained!
@@GrowingBonsai yes it's very helpful!
It makes a lot of sense, I just never thought about it haha

There are some lovely specimens nearby, I will ask the owners! :)
