For the back yard chicken grower is there a "keep it simple stupid" way I can mix my own feed and still hit the intake, protein, calorie chart numbers? Here is my goals, 1st healthy chickens, with longevity, and 2nd using things I can grow or get in my area. I am not to censured about max eggs a year. I have a small flock of 12 Buff Orpington and Barred Rock, 9 week old now, and will cull all but one male at 18 weeks. I am hoping to get 5 to 6 hens in the chicken tractor with a henhouse that gets moved every day on 2 acres. The chicks have been in it, for a few weeks now. This is the 1st year of wanting to mix my own feed and I am using oats, corn, and black sunflower seeds. I also was given a free 50lbs bag of flaxseed that I am using in the mix. I am providing growers mash to them now along with said mix. I found this mix from another youtuber, she is down south, Florida I think, and I think it may not work as well for me, up here in the northwest PA. After seeing Jeff's chart I understand now why I got giant eggs in winter past, with using just layer feed from places like Tractor supply. Will her mix work for my chickens in a northern climate? I have seen the protein numbers on this mix, on another persons channel and they put it at 22% Thank you for making your videos. I am enjoying them greatly.
Is there a layer feed that is low calcium meant to go with a separate calcium supplement? That would make more sense if you keep the boys and girls together like most people do.
Great information! I feel like every time Karen does these shows she asks the questions I want to know. Thank you Karen!! Love learning with you.
Thanks for the very informative presentation
Nooby to your channel, It's good to hear real science and old school comments.
Wonderful show. I'm learning so much.
Very interesting. The tip on the kelp meal was very helpful.
