  • Jonas Vingegaard Is Battling A RACE AGAINST TIME
After Jonas Vingegaard had suffered a crash that could be career-ending at worst, he’s been making much better progress than anyone expected. Basque country was the race where he crashed badly, but it’s slowly becoming clear that it wasn’t the last race we’ve seen him take on. Vingegaard is now also battling a race against time, full of nervousness and with the Tour de France quickly approaching, waiting for him to defend his yellow jersey from previous year. But, can Jonas Vingegaard recover in time for the showdown, and if he does start the Tour, how well prepared is he really going to be?

I think Jonas won the last two tours in part because of the strength of his team and their tactical plan which was built entirely around burning Pocajar. Tadej team the last couple of years ended up leaving him isolated at the front surround by Jumbo Visma riders with no support... Essentially it was Team Jumbo Visma vs. Tadej Pocajar.
I think team UAE recognized this and is going into this years tour with a much stronger squad. Only problem is I don't think Vingegaard is up to the task this year so we have me waiting till next year to have a true showdown.

Maybe he can recover in time, but he has one big problem: The Visma Team! Last 2 years he had the strongest team, but not this year. At the moment its totally unclear who will ride fot Visma in the TdF. UAE will have the strongest team this year. Also Pogacar had no crash this year. Remember, last year he crashed in Liege-Batogne-Liege and his preparation for the TdF wasnt perfect. Im sure, Pogacar will test all favorites in Etappe 1 - so there is no extra time to build up the form in the first tour week, because this year the 1.week is much harder than normal for the GC riders!

After watching Remco at Dauphine, it’s quite clear that Jonas will struggle in the first week. But he might pick up later. Hopefully not with a huge deficit!
Plus two of his best lieutenants are out of commission. So Visma-LAB dominating and controlling stages is out of the question.
It just doesn’t look ideal by any stretch!

After watching todays stage I wouldn't put Remco in the "big four" for this year either. Still got a few weeks to go, so time will tell. Matteo actually looks to of improved quite a bit this year, so that's good news for Visma, but I'm still not putting him up there either, Matteo looks poised to be a super dom, maybe a stage winner if he isn't up high in the standings and a potential to get on the podium should he be able to beat Yates, etc. Jonas is going to be a complete unknown with no racing results before the tour. I agree with you the bright yellow team isn't going to be able to control as they have in the past, UAE looks like the strong team now.

I don't think that Jonas is even an unknown. If he was doing well enough to put him in Dauphine, I think that they would have. I still think that Evenepoel is overrated when it comes to GC for a grand tour. If he isn't, it won't be this year he proves me wrong. Given all of the injuries, I have to put my money on Poggy this year.

Poggy is good in everything and he is still improving his TT ability - he proved it in Giro, and if anyone knows how to climb Col d´Éze, it´s definitely him. He also seems more comfortable in the mountains this year, he didn´t race to much, he didn´t have any injuries and on top of that - he was able to save some energy during the Giro, because there was lack of competition. It doesn´t mean Jonas can´t beat him, but even if Jonas is at the same level as in 2023, it would have been much more interesting battle than it was last year during week 3..

Regardless of form, if Jonas can turn the pedals I think Visma are going to force him to race. There's a lot of sponsorship money behind the TdF, and it would be financially dubious for Visma to leave him out. He has always recovered remarkably well, and better than Pogi, during 3 weeks. He barely lose any power. So just because Pogi couldn't be 100% (according to some, I think he was basically 100%) then that doesn't mean Jonas will be unable to.

It can only be altered by a robust, transparent and comprehensive commitment to police and punish the offenders.

Genetics? Maybe a TINY bit. Hello, people, it's cardio, cardio, CARDIO! These guys' resting heart rates likely put mine to shame. But, after a few years of cycling, I went from about 60 resting HR down to 40 bpm; my cardio had unintended effects - protein synthesis, libido, metabolism, general circulation, but especially HEALING FROM INJURIES! Working construction, I tore my hand open at 9:30am. At 4:30pm, when the foreman looked at my hand, he kept looking at my other hand, because he could NOT BELIEVE that it was the same injury he had seen earlier in the day. It had scabbed up, and begun to heal already. I sliced my thumb open on sharp glass, 5 hours later my friends couldn't tell which thumb I had done it to. All I'm saying is, if I can do this as a 'Schmo' riding 2k a year, the "healing advantages" for THESE guys must be UNREAL!

    • @NDEuclid
      @NDEuclid 3 месяца назад

When I raced I would check my resting pulse rate and it was always 27 BPM. But I was 28 years old. Almost all people who heal quickly are just 6 years old and younger. They can actually watch a wound heal with their native eyes. After that, healing usually slows down. I noticed it in young unrelated children too. Children heal much faster than older people

He had broken fingers, broken collarbone, multiple broken ribs, lung contusion and a collapsed lung. He was descending fast and slipped out, he hit a road sign then slid to a halt by a concrete ditch before he was struck by another rider who also crashed. 2 riders had worse injuries than him. Jonas was the one who was most severely hurt out of the GC riders.
It is no propaganda. You can tell the crash was a serious one. Jonas was also in hospital for 12 days, I doubt they'd let him stay if he did not need to be there.

Nope ! He will not be ready for 2 simple reasons : first , physiologically it wouldn't be posible to heal 100% the ribbs injuries and the punctured lung and at a maximum effort those internal wounds will open , think just of the frequency and amplitude of the ribb cage when he will do maximum effort !!! and the second reason is the kilometers acumulated on his legs comparising with Tadej or the others . Let's not even talk about the teams . Visma is way down in performance then most of the teams not necessarily UAE . And , by the way , I always thought that Vingegaar isn't a match for Pogacar not last year , not last 2 years not ever . I am sorry for what happened to him in that awfull crash . But he isn't better and he wasn't better than Pogacar . No one can convince me that a person with the background like Vingegaard can be a two times champion of Tour de France against Pogacar who is a real champion by comparison . Look for the achievements for both of them ! Pogacar is number one in the world for some years and compited in so many races , monuments , one day races, one week races and so on . From a country without mountains
came someone that beats Poggy in Tour the France for 2 times !!! What ?!? I mean it seems that Visma makes wonders there ! After I've searched for sports background for these two guys ... well ... I was disappointed of what I've discovered about Vingegaard . I couldn't say the same in Poggy's case . I mean , Tadej started his cycling career at 12 years old ,born and raised into the mountains ! At the age of 17 or 16 had his first victory and there are more to say but not for Vingegaard he was the last of the last ... before he join Jumbo Visma !?! Anyway , I wish him health .

@@Soli11 unless you can show us proof of Vingegaard’s superior natural genetics, then he should be held in suspicion as long as he and other cyclists are outputting bigger numbers than the dopers of the 90s. Unless it really is the training, bikes, and nutrition regimens which allow riders to go faster, I find it unlikely that todays clean riders can break the records of riders from back in the day with 50+ hematocrit-doped to the gills with other substances too.

@@peterconnors5259 Riders of the past used to starve themselves, their training was archaic to say the least, and they relied on drugs. Riders of the past are saying literally everything is different today. Better technology, better equipment, better nutrition, better training. It doesn't even compare to how they were training back then, so already that is a huge difference.
And I do actually have proof:
      ruclips.net/video/8yyIflpc57s/видео.htmlsi=fmb_VbFHrNVVq5KK
In 2018, before he even joined Visma and the WT, Jonas was tested to be around 15% better than the ordinary Danish professional rider. His numbers were so outstanding that the news even did a news report on him before anyone even knew who he was. These numbers were also tested right after Jonas broke his femur and probably was not even at his peak.
How do you think his numbers look today in a professional team and years away from his femur fracture? I think they are beyond exceptional.
