Another person called 911 stating a Lincoln Towncar had been speeding over 90 miles per hour and passing vehicles on the shoulder prior to a crash on the Parkway. On police arrival, officers made contact with Platz while he was still in his vehicle. Shortly after speaking with Platz, police saw a handgun on the floorboard of his car and repeatedly told him not to reach for it. Nevertheless, Platz picked up the firearm off the driver’s side floorboard. Platz disregarded commands to drop the firearm. An officer-involved shooting ensued. The uptick in violent crime in Central Oregon is concerning. This same week a dude unalived his mother in an old folks home as well. Crazy world, and Bend isnt the small cozy town it used to be
@Sshooter444 there is a reason 12 or so Oregon counties want to become part of "greater Idaho". Portland and Salem don't represent the Eastern half of the state. Will it ever happen? Probably not.
If only, next to the ammo shelf of every gun store, they also offered love and friendship as a product. In response to this latest tragedy, tomorrow morning, gun stores across Oregon will band together by placing signs in their windows that read: _O P E N_ NRA is Russian Supported - j q t -
I'm sure it's hard for them to believe, so it's good that this video exists. Even watching the video I'm kind of shocked. It makes no sense at all. The guy seemed so compliant and normal beforehand, got to wonder what the hell he was thinking
What a foolish move!! He was clearly trying to rack it before that passenger side officer was able to get shots off. If the gun had been chambered, the driver side officer may not have been so lucky.
Sometimes I find out why ppl do things like reach for the gun when clearly there’s no way it’s happening. They want to end it all. That crash might’ve been an attempt to end it and since that didn’t work, next was to reach for his gun.
Agreed, that and drugs, he was supposedly high and drunk or either or both. When we have the psychology of all this, its likely other contributing factors, extreme depression etc etc.
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) - A Bend Police officer was justified in using deadly force to shoot an armed 18-year-old Bend man who at the same moment used his own gun to take his life during a March 20 encounter after a crash on the Bend Parkway, Deschutes County District Attorney Steve Gunnels concluded Friday. Gunnels issued a 12-page report on the use of deadly force that laid out the sequence of events that night and concluded that while Bend Police Officer Wesley Murphy “acted lawfully in self-defense and defense of others” when he shot Gabriel Platz, the young man “died from a self-inflicted gunshot.
Hey my area finally on PA. This has been in the paper a lot lately. This teenager committed suicide at the same time he was shot by the police. He was driving crazy reckless at about double the speed limit making insane passes including on the shoulder, he was also DUI.

Its really not that hard... You don't reach for and pull out your gun while cops screaming at you NOT to... Not sure why simple things are so difficult to understand for some.
Probably a felon. So possible DUI, failure to operate causing a traffic accident, felon in possession of firearm and whatever cops could find in his car. With a right attitude in court he could get a probation. Very bizarre behavior.
@@Topper_Harley68 Entirely speculation. I am curious about why someone would grab a pistol and inflict a fatal shot on themselves. Another commenter suggested that we see a DUI, traffic accident, felon in possession of a firearm, and whatever else is in the car. Maybe he didn't want to go back. Why else would he turn a gun on himself. The car indicates that things were not going well for him, and he was drunk. But to take himself out like that, there had to be something else going on. But I have found no articles saying that he was a felon, so speculation.
@@Topper_Harley68 I just read an article that said he had no previous criminal record in Oregon. See: "He has no criminal record in Oregon. The gun Platz used was registered to someone in Dallas, Oregon who purchased it in August 2023, Gunnels told The Bulletin. That person doesn’t have an obvious connection to Platz, but how Platz came to possess the handgun is being investigated, he said." - So this means he was not a felon, and not going back to prison. So why did he shoot himself in the head?
"Platz sustained a fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound and was simultaneously shot by the police." WOW.....didn't see that coming. Who would want to be a police officer ? That went from zero to insane in a split second.
A DUI charge will completely destroy your life. I'm still suicidal 14 years after my false arrest for DWI. I was stone cold sober. I still can't get a drivers license, I can't get a job, I'm trapped in poverty forever because some cop thought it would be funny to frame me for DWI.
@@LarsLarsen77 After a single charge? I've known several people who have had one that just had their license restricted to using an ignition interlock for like 6 months and could still drive just the same as before. After the 6 months it was removed and they got to go back to driving regularly and without it afterwards.
@@LarsLarsen77 Is that you breathing fire? You look to be popular. Mind you Robin Williams committed suicide, and he looked as if he lived a happy life. I'm in extreme poverty myself, mind you I have a car but from what I can tell its the oldest crappiest car on the road and equally as unsafe. So I'm with you on the depression roller coaster. However no suicide thoughts as yet, more so that I'm just dying inside. Anyway, other than horror, I still enjoy a walk in natural surroundings. Hopefully you have a park you can get to? I think (as I don't know really) you are suppose to find 1 thing to keep you going, then add 2 things the next day, etc etc. I'm probably on 1 thing, so I'm fine Lol Anyway try that.
Imagine having cops allowing you to exit the vehicle despite them seeing a weapon & you still make that decision to grab the gun? Honestly feel sorry for cops who’ve been involved in these types of fatal shootings.
"Mental illness" !!!!!!! Our society would grind to a halt treating everyone like him at $400 bucks per hour and these people are EVERYWHERE. Oh, and he's "disabled" too, so he needs a government check every month on top of it.

I have an ex who lives in Bend. It is, I believe, the spider capital of the west. And Bend houses the last operating Blockbuster Video store in the US.
What most viewers cant see, because the video is blurred, is that the kid literally shot himself in the head. He wanted to kill himself for this minor crash and probable DUI charge. What a waste of life.
For those who can't see it, it looks like he offed himself before the cop shot in reaction. Prob a felon and didn't want to go back to jail. Also definitely an idiot.
It’s sad that a kid killed himself over this. Don’t know if it was a final straw of depression or he thought that this incident would ruin his life. What a waste of life.

So, for further context because there isn’t a description on this video, the suspect was an 18 year old and he didn’t just reach for the gun, he racked it and fatally shot himself in the head almost simultaneously as the officers fired on him.
I was born in Bend and have lived here my entire life. Police shootings don't happen very often here, so when I saw this on the news a couple weeks ago, I was wondering if we would get a policeactivity video about it. Crazy!
Last one I heard of was at least 10years ago
There was literally a big Safeway shooting 2 years ago. Theres surveillance cameras showing the whole interaction
The Bend teenager who died amid police gunfire on the Bend Parkway last month, fatally shot himself first, which prompted a responding officer to simultaneously shoot the teen, according to a 12-page report from the Deschutes County District Attorney.
☝️☝️☝️...Нет,нет. Его сначало смертельно застрелил офицер, а потом уже подросток дослал патрон в ствол своего пистолета ,взвёл курок и смертельно застрелился сам.🤔

@@user-Ebushki-Vorobushki No silly man, no. No. He shot himself first then the passenger side cop fired two shots. You can try to misdirect people, but anyone with two eyes can see what happened in the video and can read the report. Try again somewhere else.

Description:
Bend, Oregon - On March 20, 2024, at 8:17pm, a driver of a vehicle on highway 97 called 911 to report a motor vehicle crash on Highway 97 near mile post 136 (northbound Bend Parkway). Another witness called 911 at 8:21pm, reporting that a Lincoln Towncar had been traveling at speeds estimated to be over 90 miles per hour and had passed vehicles on the shoulder. That witness reported that he was with a driver (18-year-old Gabriel Platz) who smelled of alcohol. This person took the keys from the driver.
During his interaction with police, Platz sustained a fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound and was simultaneously shot by the police.

The uptick in violent crime in Central Oregon is concerning. This same week a dude unalived his mother in an old folks home as well. Crazy world, and Bend isnt the small cozy town it used to be

well you all thought decriminalizing drugs was a good idea?

@Sshooter444 there is a reason 12 or so Oregon counties want to become part of "greater Idaho". Portland and Salem don't represent the Eastern half of the state. Will it ever happen? Probably not.
It makes u wonder how some people made it this far in life

Sometimes I find out why ppl do things like reach for the gun when clearly there’s no way it’s happening. They want to end it all. That crash might’ve been an attempt to end it and since that didn’t work, next was to reach for his gun.
Agreed, that and drugs, he was supposedly high and drunk or either or both.
When we have the psychology of all this, its likely other contributing factors, extreme depression etc etc.
You will never win a stand-off against more than one person. Unless you are Arthur Morgan.

Imagine living your whole life to do that at the end
Man wtf was he thinking
Hey my area finally on PA. This has been in the paper a lot lately. This teenager committed suicide at the same time he was shot by the police. He was driving crazy reckless at about double the speed limit making insane passes including on the shoulder, he was also DUI.
Between the driving and the loaded pistol on his floorboard, sounds like he set-out intent on ending things, one way or another. Sad.
@@lefroy1 I agree, he was suicidal, drunk, high on drugs, and had determined it was his day to die.
He seemed like such a nice guy. Why does he have to grab the gun?
Everything was as chill as can be and then he had a severe short circuit in logic.
Sad. 18 and had so many years ahead of him.
Why would he shoot himself? It was only a drunk driving incident. What a stupid kid. So sad.
Maybe he was possibly already suicidal
Gee man idk maybe he was already suicidal and had been for a long time leading up to this moment? You actually think this dude was totally O.K in the head before this incident, then just decided to end his life so he doesn't have to spend the night in the drunk tank and get his license taken away? Maybe you should worry about how stupid YOU are instead of wasting your time "worrying" about others, which honestly I don't think you care you just want to run your mouth and feel better about yourself because someone was worse-off than you
I just read the updated story today. The boy shot himself in the temple. The officer shot after. Very very sad.
Expecting a dumb person not to do something dumb is like expecting a dog not to bark.
Officer Wesley Murphy “acted lawfully in self-defense and defense of others” when he shot Gabriel Platz, the young man “died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

Its really not that hard... You don't reach for and pull out your gun while cops screaming at you NOT to... Not sure why simple things are so difficult to understand for some.
"Fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound." What was this guy trying to avoid that was worse than death?
Probably a felon. So possible DUI, failure to operate causing a traffic accident, felon in possession of firearm and whatever cops could find in his car. With a right attitude in court he could get a probation.
Very bizarre behavior.
@@user-hb7py7xy7b
That makes sense, and I guess he didn't want to go back to prison.
@@SomethingCompass Back to prison? Where did you get that from?
@@Topper_Harley68
Entirely speculation.
@@Topper_Harley68
I just read an article that said he had no previous criminal record in Oregon.
See: "He has no criminal record in Oregon. The gun Platz used was registered to someone in Dallas, Oregon who purchased it in August 2023, Gunnels told The Bulletin. That person doesn’t have an obvious connection to Platz, but how Platz came to possess the handgun is being investigated, he said."
- So this means he was not a felon, and not going back to prison. So why did he shoot himself in the head?
"Platz sustained a fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound and was simultaneously shot by the police."
WOW.....didn't see that coming. Who would want to be a police officer ? That went from zero to insane in a split second.

Wow, goes to shoot himself over a wreck and DUI charge and is simultaneously shot by police. Why??
A DUI charge will completely destroy your life. I'm still suicidal 14 years after my false arrest for DWI. I was stone cold sober. I still can't get a drivers license, I can't get a job, I'm trapped in poverty forever because some cop thought it would be funny to frame me for DWI.
@@LarsLarsen77 After a single charge? I've known several people who have had one that just had their license restricted to using an ignition interlock for like 6 months and could still drive just the same as before.
So what you’re saying is, the cop should be charged with abuse of a corpse?
