    Empty fuel tanks prevented the plane turning into a fireball on impact, strangely the cause of the crash was also the reason why 20 passengers managed to survive.

    • @oneday5572
      @oneday5572 3 года назад

      @Steven Franklin I don’t think there was engine failure. They simply ran out of gas and then gravity took over from there. From what I read the co pilot didn’t dump fuel. They had no fuel to dump anyway. The reason they crashed is because they didn’t add enough fuel prior to take off. it’s like Driving from Virginia to Georgia on a half a tank a gas. You won’t make it.

    Some friends and I saw their concert here in Greenville the day before the crash. I'll never forget any of it.
    Nazareth opened for them that night at The Memorial Auditorium.
    What a show! Steve Gaines sang lead on his song, "Ain't No Good Life" from the "Street Survivors " album. And I'll never forget them playing "I know A Little," "Saturday Night Special," and "Freebird."
    When I heard the report on WFBC News it really knocked me for a loop because they inaccurately stated "all on board perished."
    I just wish they "all" had survived that terrible day.
    RIP Ronnie, Steve, Cassie and Dean.

MET WORKED AND PLAYED WITH THE SURVIVORS AND .38 SPECIAL SEVERAL TIMES - INCLUDING JOHNNY IN 1989 IN ALBANY NY SINGING WITH MY BAND. THEN THE METAL BAND I MANAGED ALSO DREW SKYNYRD'S ATTENTION AND WE ALL ACTUALLY SPENT A DAY IN A MOTEL ROOM TOGETHER IN MASS. DURING THEIR TRIBUTE TOUR OF 86?... WHERE WE ACTUALLY TALKED WITH THE SURVIVORS ABOUT THE CRASH. THEY WERE ALWAYS DOWN TO EARTH AND VERY FRIENDLY... JOHNNY ACTUALLY WROTE ME AN AUTOGRAPH... 'YA'LL ARE A BETTER SINGER THAN I AM." And man, were they talented! I freaked when I learned they wrote the ballad of my youth ‘Without You’ the saddest song ever written.

    I show them in Texas in the mid 70s I was a teenager ,, I remember that day when they played ,, they really lured there heart out !! The crash made me sick that day I cried like hell. They were the best southern band around . Ronnie was the best frontman, may you rest in piece ..

    • @derhandtrommler
      @derhandtrommler Год назад

      Hate toi tell you this but The Allman Brothers Band, also out of Jacksonville, were the originators of southern rock and they paved the way for everyone else. It's likely that LS would never have been "Workin' For MCA" had The ABB not done the heavy lifting, first. Skynyrd was a great band, no question., but credit where it's due, please.

    • @peterbilt-bo1vy
      @peterbilt-bo1vy Год назад

      He said they were the BEST not the FIRST. Not to mention the ABB were a jazz/jam band. I've always liked the ABB but they were more like a southern Grateful Dead type of band. They didn't play their music the same way every time like Skynyrd did, not to mention Skynyrd was a rock band.

      I was a newspaper journalist when this crash took place. You are incorrect about us being "intelligent and graceful". We were not. We were in denial about serious long term problems that we, later, could no longer ignore. The guys in this band were struggling with many personal issues ("That Smell" was not apocryphal ) and we as a nation were reelIng from a dreadful war and a corrupt president.It was no golden age, not even close.
