Use torpedo weights & use a snap swivel up side down so you can change out your weight quickly.

The best way is to set up for reds if you have a fly line is to use a long leader going to a weight and then a leader to the fly because you will get down faster without having to fight the drag caused from the floating fly line but I know that you switched the the monofilament style of chuck n duck, which is easier. You know me, I love to use sink tips or sinking polyleaders when I am fishing areas where there is no snags or hardly any snags. I get down to the reds with 3/8 in some good moving water in the Kenai but some areas, I do have to use a little more but I don't like to really because fly rods were not meant to be short casting a weight at all and sections will come loose but that can be remedied if you use wax on the ferrules, which is pretty easy and it helps on taking the rod down at the end of the fishing trip but it also keeps the sections together.
