I'm delighted to hear my take on Bob's work is hitting the spot. I'll add a few new paintings along the way to show how his techniques can be adapted for our own original works. That’s crazy. I have to admit I’ve never seen anyone do a black and white painting then choose to transform it with colour. You also have an interesting sense of humour. lol

    • @PaulRansonArt
      @PaulRansonArt  День назад

      haha Ron. Glazing a black-and-white painting is a fun process. I wonder if it's possible in Procreate? As for my humour. Well, I guess If I laugh at myself I'm beating someone else to it! 😃🤔🤗

      Actually it is. In either the brush or the layer you can drop the opacity to whatever you like. If you use the layer, you can move the layer behind other stuff you’ve already painted. Very handy.
      I get laughing at yourself first. I did the same thing for years before I stopped giving a damn. Defense mechanisms help greatly.

      This is going to sound really stupid. Wondering if you’d be willing to help out. Should be crazy easy for someone of your obvious skill. I’ve been picturing a campfire forming into a woman’s body. Still all fire. Well, a mixture of smoke and fire. I’m hoping if I can see it made, the image might go away. Sounds dumb, I know. I can only equate it to a tune in your head that just won’t go away. I had the circus tune in my head for the better part of two weeks. All day every day. How I didn’t go on a rampage I’ll never know. lol

    So you’re using acrylic and oil? Oil base coat then a main painting in acrylic paint then later the colors in oil paint?

    • @PaulRansonArt
      @PaulRansonArt  19 часов назад

      Thanks for watching and asking a question. There is a specific order in which acrylics and oils are applied. Oil paintings need a sealed surface so are primed with either gesso or acrylic paints which are water based. These are left to dry completely and seal the surface. I then use layers of acrylic to under-paint some scenes. Again these must be left to completely dry. Then I can paint in oils. Once oils have been applied no water based products can be used as they wont stick to the oil. Hope that helps - Paul 😃😎

      I don't see why not. You'll need to use something like water mixable linseed oil very thinly in place of liquid clear. Then everything else is the same 😀😀

    How beautiful Paul! I received the black gesso I’ve ordered and plan to give it a go on Christmas Day. I’m hoping to create a little gift for my wife. This will be my first painting on an actual canvas. I’m not expecting much. But I’m looking forward to painting along with this video.

      Brilliant Robin. I'm sure you'll produce a winner and she'll be delighted. Top tip - if there is a small detail or point you know could be better keep it to yourself. You wife won't see it and more importantly, she won't care. Its a lovely gift from you so she'll love it anyway 😃 Merry Christmas - Paul 😄😎

    Hey, Paul. Thank you very much for your videos. They are great! Your workflow and speed are spot on. You go into great detail and give us more than adequate instructions and how to's. The top tips are great as well! Your humor is always very enjoyable. Please keep up the great work! Is there a way I can upload and share my version of this tutorial?

    Great tutorial. I tried one following along and mine looked great in B&W and less stellar in color. Is there any way to contact you so I can show you my results? I totally understand if that's not something you do/want. Thanks!

    Oh my gosh! This was my very first painting on canvas. Before that I was relegated to old cereal boxes. The only real problem was painting the branches thin, clear and pristine, like yours Paul. Well, practice makes perfect. Back to the cereal boxes! 😅

    Absolutely beautiful painting. I have a question, I only have acrylic paints, do you think the oils part with the liquid clear can be replaced with acrylic retarder medium and then more acrylic paint for your oil part? Thanks in advance.

    • @PaulRansonArt
      @PaulRansonArt  Год назад +1

      Hi Robin thanks for stopping by. TBH I don't know. I've used acrylics a lot but not particularly as a glaze. I think I would test a few colours first. The retarder would propbably work in place of the liquid clear as you suggest. Applied thinly over a dry acrylic background then try a few colours. Pigments that are more translucent in nature are: permanent rose, permanent crimson, alizarin crimson, dioxazine blue, ultramarine, pthalo blue, Prussian blue, viridian green, terre verte, sap green, burnt sienna, raw sienna and raw umber. Yellows are tricky because most are opaque. Play with Indian yellow would be my best guess. have fun amd let me know how you get on - Paul 😃😃

    • @PaulRansonArt

      Great question! Acrylic paints are extreamly tough and bond well with most surfaces. I've got a number of oils I painted over 25 years ago and they're still perfect. Not a crack or flake in sight. Hope this helps 😃😎

      OK, so all is not lost. You have two choices. Either,) use a baby wipe and wipe the lower half of the canvas clean of any liquid clear and color. Allow to dry then complete the underpainting with gesso OR do the lower section completely in oils. Unless you've already started the lower section a wipe-off would be my favourite solution. 😍😍

      Hi Jackie - no problem. You can use black and white gesso or black and white acrylic or any combination of the two. Just use what you have to hand. They all play nice together. 😀😀😀😀

However, I created a sort of surreal and incongruous piece that might work and that she says she loves. And I suppose that’s the way of it for a beginner like me. Hi Luke - thanks for watching and trying this painting. I know just what you mean. I've painted this scene a few times over the years and its really easy to over glaze things. The background colours tend to merge so easily there is a tendancy for everything to become a blue/green wash. Try again and follow these tips 1) Add the smallest amount of colour at a time. Creap up slowly on the value your looking for. 2) Dry clean your brushes between colours. I spend several minuets between colour changes. If you have a second dry brush even better. 3) If it starts to go wrong don't be afraid to baby wipe the canvas and let it dry before having another go. 4) Be patient with your self. - Happy Painting - Paul

      OK so the start of the painting is all acrylic or gesso and must be allowed to dry completely. If its not then the oils will smear it all over the canvas 🤔Have fun painting this 😎

      Hello Maria - its a mixed media painting. So, the starting point is to use acrylics as an underpainting for the trees. Then, once dry I use a glaze of oil colours to add colour. My latest tutorial uses coloured acrylics and oils - Hre's a link to it ruclips.net/video/QPb6Tad53tw/видео.html - Hope this helps Best wishes Paul 😎😎
