    CGN sailor here. The Virginia class was fantastic. Big, fast and great in heavy seas.

    Some of my proudest moments was when I wore my Big Bad John coveralls. Our CO let us get custom made patches and embroidery in the Philippines. I still have mine. I don’t get many opportunities to wear them in Florida, but they see some light in the winter. My Dad ganked my USS Vincennes (CG-49) coveralls. Seeing him wearing them was priceless. Then my son Josiah ganked a pair, I started to cry.

    Watching this makes me wish I could do it all over again. I wanted a Arleigh Burke class DDG so dam bad. I would have loved the chance to work with that Aegis set up. My shop was CIC shown starting at 6:15.

    Ive been sailing all my life. The worse the weather is, the more exhilarating it is to get through it to safety! It gets the blood pumping and the adrenaline rushes are better than any drug or wine!

    I was a Gunners Mate on a Perry class Frigate. The average age of the sailors was 19 to 24. If you were older you were a grandfather. What's always impressive is these guys operating multi million equipment, and knowing their $#!t. My enlistment was 84 thru 90 during Regans buildup for the 600 ship navy. Hit a lot of great liberty ports Subic, Pearl, Guam, Japan, Vancouve, San Francisco and Seafair in Seattle before it got weird. Worked hard but partied hard too. Great times.

    When you are looking up at the seas from a bridge 35 feet above sea level, that's when you are in the "massive" zone. The seas shown in this video are not.
    Try the north Pacific in the wintertime going west about up by the Aleutians or the short steep seas off the North Africa coast in the Atlantic. Like falling off a cliff or being hit by one.

    • @garygolfer3243
      @garygolfer3243 2 месяца назад

      Yup. Blue water over the bridge is what we considered heavy seas.

    Why not just go a lot slower in high seas?……or avoid them altogether with all the weather satellites available?

      Waste too much fuel dodging around weather. Navy only avoids heavy weather or seas like hurricanes.

    Special day. Congress is seeking the return of draft registration for people 18-26. If you don’t register it’s a felony.

    • @roykiefer7713
      @roykiefer7713 3 месяца назад

      Not exactly; draft registration for males at age 18 has been the law for many years (even throughout the now five decade “all volunteer” military period). What Congress has just done is more fully automat registration, based on existing data. Accordingly, just-turned-18 Johnny would no longer have to obtain and fill out a postcard form, and then mail it to the Selective Service System, or register online.

    • @thereissomecoolstuff
      @thereissomecoolstuff 3 месяца назад

      @@roykiefer7713 that’s cool except I don’t know 1 18 year old male that has registered for years. I would like the stat on people that are currently registered. .
