Is it possible? It seems that I have MISSED this video! I will put myself in detention for the rest of the month as punishment. Another fine repair and an awesome lesson by Franky!
#4 is the fan that blows on the DMD heatsink. Check the connection. Also make sure you buy an exact replacement. You can't substitute other fans even if the electric specs match.
Great video! Just found your site! The power (green) light on my HT2050 just flashes, and the bulb does not come on. Would this be a power supply issue? I haven't opened the projector up yet.
Just flashing sounds like it is stuck in "download" mode which is concerning. Unless you pressed some buttons to cause that, you may have a power supply or mainboard issue. I am not sure which.
I had someone asking about something similar there so I had to ask. I dont have my own page but I admin a projector group there. there is link on the community page to it. there are a few repair folks in the group so its a bit more useful.
Thank you for the sharing. And the power light of my 1080st+ went red too.I checked just like you did between 2:28 and 2:30.And it doesn`t response at all.So I guess maybe it is broken. But I don`t know the imformation of the green round one.Can you tell me that if you know. That will be very helpful. Thanks a lot.
the green round thing is a PTC thermistor. It should read very low ohms, 6-12 ohms. I need to double check for the exact measurement but I know it is low. They will fail if hit with a power surge. If you google the little number on the front, and "thermistor" it should give you a result. Make sure the fuse connects through both sides of the board.
@FixitFrank yes, exacly the same (green) as yours in this video. I have ordered NTC5D-20 T5R 7A 5Ohm but I don't know it is proper (cant find any service manual for this balast). My bulb was from aliexpress, not cheap, seller said its original optoma and looks like original one (my previous one). I check lamp with multimeter and there is infinite ohms.
I kind of recall these being 12ohms... but I could be wrong. I know they are in a Benq(12ohm). I have a scrap 141x power supply at the office and if you can wait until Monday, I will check and let you know. i'd also check the large mosfet and bridge rectifier if that thermistor smoked. While they can fail on their own, its rare.
I hate to disappoint you but I will likely never touch an Epson again. They are not repairable within reason. There is no where to buy parts reliably and the last Epson I worked on cost me almost $500. meaning I lost almost $500 out of my own pocket to pay for the mainboard. Dim bulb tester yes! I will be doing a video on that. But epson...Epson can go stuff itself.
@@FixitFrank My poor Epson :) , i really hoped that its HQ and would last me ages. What brand would you buy that targets semi professional user? I was always under the impression that Ace, Benq, ... produce lower tier stuff.
You're not wrong. Its a little more nuanced but really you get what you pay for. Some BenQ stuff is cheap, Acer too. I'd stay away from those if you are interested in nicer pictures but if you are getting into it or need to save money the quality for the price on the BenQ/Acer/Viewsonic etc are fine. My personal feeling is Sony and JVC are the "next step up" in quality. If you are okay with buying used, then look at Digital Projection and Christie as well. Epson is a weird case. When they work, they are fine. They have a good picture. nice and bright etc. But they don't last. Once they start to go, they go hard and tend to be a nightmare to keep running.
Thanks mate, watching from Papua New Guinea, excellent video. Much appreciated. Any help please, My TOP 258pn Power Integration sort out after low current, I replaced it with TYN 279, no power coming thru, where is problem? Thanks.
Are you sure that's a compatible IC? The datasheeta seem to indicate they switch on different frequency (66khz vs 128khz) and wattage. I'd source the original. Also check the schematics. The service manual is available online for free. Otherwise also check the MOSFETs and the VCC circuit for this flyback regulator. The caps nearby will be suspicious too. But mainly I don't think the chip is compatible. What was the original symptoms?
@@FixitFrank Thank you Sir, your advice is helpful, I'll try switch to original IC. No serviceable parts here in Papua New Guinea, any idea you can help to substitute this IC please. Low current of my generator has caused this problem.
I checked around and I don't know who would ship in your area. If you get get things from China, you can try the folks I use. gydz@timeprojectorlamp.com they can get it and will ship worldwide as far as I know.
I can't stand these double sided boards when it comes to removing components from the board. 21 meg on the lamp that looks very dodgy? They can certainly damage the projector. Nice piece of work Frank.
Thanks brother! They really are a pain... Ive gotten pretty well versed at these particular models since so many of them get damaged... Thanks for the vendor lead by the way. I passed it onto purchasing. I made sure they knew to drop your name. I am not sure if they contacted them yet though. I wont hear about it until an order is placed.
Hi Frank, I have the epson 2030, and the lamp is going out and the lamp light is on, and I am able to see the light it just need to be replaced so i ordered a new lamp and replaced it today, very carefully but now it does not light up the new blub I put the old bulb in and now nether one works, The blue light is flashing and the lamp light is solid amber, can you please advice, Liked and subbed thank you in advance sir.
www.projectorcentral.com/pdf/projector_manual_7795.pdf check pages 105-108 and see which one of those applies. If the old lamp worked when you took it out, it should still work enough. Make sure they are seated and the screws are snug, not tight. Just snug. barely hand tight. Make sure the air filter is clean and seated too. Verify which error those LEDs are telling you and let me know and I will see what I can recommend.

You are VERY welcome!!
Do you know where I can find an overview of which is which fan? My fan 4 is not blowing, but I dont know whichone it is..

Great video Frank! Thank You! My termistor also blew (optoma hd141x), after lamp replacement. But there is no print on it, what should I buy?
The thermistor exploded? Where did you get the lamp? that sounds like a dead short to ground. Thermistors rarely explode like that.
