    That's exactly what bothers me. Some athletes are permitted, even encouraged , to take banned substances, and no one goes after them to return the medals won having the unfair advantage those substances offer and testing positive. That's what exemption means. The same rules should apply to everyone. If Raducan's olympic gold was taken for a cold medicine, the same should apply for anyone taking stronger stimulants. We all know ADHD meds are basically amphetamines.
    One other thing bothers me in her statement. Admitting to taking them and and then saying she supports and believes in clean sport. One can't practice clean sport while using banned drugs. No one thinks this is hypocritical?

    • @nightswimmer99
      @nightswimmer99 8 лет назад +37

      No, it is not. She has complied with the rules of WADA since she began participating in the sport, apparently. You do realize that when athletes apply for these exemptions, their doses of medication are tracked? They are tested even more than other athletes to make certain they are within dose limits as they compete. So yes, if they are in full compliance then they are practicing clean sport. Raducan's gold was rescinded because she took a substance that showed up with no prior notice, approval or monitoring by the governing body. As it is, the substance has since been removed from the banned list, so I believe Andreea Raducan should have had her medal restored to her. It's overdue in my opinion.
      As for ADHD meds, they have the effect of bringing the firing of brain synapses more in line with those of the average person. They help to normalize (not enhance) focus and check impulsive tendencies. I have a close family member who uses them. Before diagnosis and treatment, I can't imagine what it must have been like to have Simone bouncing around the Biles' home. She is right to be grateful for available treatment and not ashamed.
      The only "advantage" she has is the one nature gave her, a body perfectly suited to this sport. It happens once in a while in every sport. But as we saw with the balance beam final, even her level of natural talent does not prevent her from making the occasional misstep.

    • @c.stefan568
      @c.stefan568 8 лет назад +1

      nightswimmer99 How do you know what effect ADHD have,other than enhance focus, increase one's ability maintain focus for a long time,to minimize fatigue and incidentally suppress appetite? There is no scientific evidence to justify the use of such stimulants other than subjective observation. ADHD gets diagnosed on the basis of subjective reports of a patient, teacher or parent. Drugs are prescribed often based on that, without an objective test that would prove that those synapses are not firing properly. If you kow of such a test please let us know. But that is another conversation entirely (kids and ADHD drugs)
      I sympathize with anyone dealing with hyperactive children, had to deal with quite a few myself, but I'm not convinced by the media attempts to make Ms. Biles look like a victim. Because in the world of gymnastics where these organizations watch (or they are supposed to watch) to make sure NO ONE uses performance enhancing stimulants, anyone considering competing knows from the start they can't take certain medicines, not even for a cold. Right? Thats why i still think it is wrong that she took meds that gave her an advantage over all other competitors AND actually competed. She chould have chosen one or the other. She could still choose one or the other now. (She'll have my respect then). We respect winners because we recognize the determination and effort they made to discipline their minds and body to the rigors of training and lifestyle. The winner is one who is best at disciplining him or herself. No respect is due to one who takes drugs to make that easier.
      The drugs did give her an unfair advantage by helping her every day train better, stay focused longer, not get tired and cutting her appetite. A trainer's dream, is it not? That doesn't change no matter how anyone calls it, exempted, allowed, encouraged, monitored,compliant with the rules. Just like a student cheating on a test. The teacher allowing it doesn't make it less unfair for everyone else who didn't cheat.
      So i maintain my first comment. The next olympic winner will be the one with the best drugs and best exemptions :) suppose by then WADA winds change and that will be a russian. Will you still disagree?

    • @nightswimmer99
      @nightswimmer99 8 лет назад +19

      corina stefan
      Wow. Well, you and I will disagree on the subject of eligibility and that's the end of that. If Miss Biles had been Russian, French, Romanian, Chinese or any other nationality, I hope that WADA would have had the same approach. I believe you are possibly incensed by the fact that they kicked out athletes who were not compliant with the exemption and monitoring policies. They have rules. She complied. Others did not. If there were athletes who considered her win unfair, where are their formal complaints or press conferences?

    • @c.stefan568
      @c.stefan568 8 лет назад +2

      nightswimmer99 that's a great question. So the exemption game, pardon me, the eligibility game, has more players. Well, rest assured, if some day one of them will get better at it than Americans and win, i will still think taking banned substances from the amphetamine family, exempted or not, is unfair to the rest of the competitors.Until then, let's agreeably disagree :)

    • @memyselfandid
      @memyselfandid 7 лет назад +11

      Im a severe adhd adult who takes the medication vyvanse which is an amphetamine. Amphetamines used in adhd individuals do the opposit of what they do to normal people who take them to get high. I have been on ritalin, adderall, and vyvanse and they make me tired. So everybody reacts different to meds but in a truelly adhd person amphetamines do the opposite of what they would do to a person taking them to get high.

      WADA granted these american athletes "exemption for therapeutic use" for ADHD meds, which are derivates of amphetamines! Their intended effect is to increase focus, minimize fatigue and suppress appetite. Convenient enough if you're a gymnast? These stimulants must be on the list of banned substances for a reason, I should think. I'm not questioning the character of the person you know, only the corrupt practices of the organizations governing this sport, granting exemptions secretly for certain athletes.
      Also, if taking these drugs are nothing to be ashamed about, why was this not made public until hackers unveiled it? Why not make public the whole list of athletes who were granted exemptions from testing ? Or why even testing everyone else? Let the best drug win then.

      Actually a lot of people knew about it but she came out in the public and said something because since it had already went viral why not? but a lot of people knew it is not everyone business what do you want her to do come out of know where and say it she got permission before use the Russians did not and a lot of them did it for uses other than necessary and i advise not to listen to the media because some of the hackers info where inaccurate but i can cannot further disclose more info but what i can tell you is that she was permitted and actually encouraged to take it
