Thank you so much for letting my share my story! I uploaded a video that highlights the changes/improvements I found in "Salamander Near Arcade" on the Turbografx / Coregrafx minis, to youtube in case anyone was curious... its more than just the voice that was added. :) ruclips.net/video/PQLfe0AWlzc/видео.html
Your section on Salamander was my favorite part of the video. Huge fan of that game as well. Even though I love the pc engine version this near arcade port was a blessing. It feels responsive and I had a great time playing through it a couple weeks ago.
I'm glad you were featured in this video! Johnny has brought you up in a few of his videos, I went over to your channel and subscribed :). Thanks for all of your input, i'm checking out your videos now :D
Loved your commentary, someone who shares their love for gaming as much as this audience really shows. Would love to see you on here more often. Play on.
@@suprastevio2264 Thank you!! CRISHTANG great segment! Can you describe how you made your mini with a monitor? Thank you!
I love hearing people talk about their nostalgia memories
Agreed ....it’s great to know that I’m not the only one with nostalgic stories about my experiences with turbografx 16 ....my ol time fav on the console was Chew man fu ....kinda bummed final lap twin isn’t on the mini loved the quest mode so many memories playing those games as a child
God bless you Johnny, you're one reviewer who doesn't just review things with the typical forced sentence structure and belch out a number at the end.
But that "effect" in Neutopia is just background animation! They had that shit on the 8-bit NES!
I've never owned or seen a TG-16 in my life. I just got my mini the other day. Been playing it and I absolutely love this console. I get the hype behind it now. This system should be revered just like the Neo Geo, Genesis and Super Nintendo. It's awesome.
I had one i wound up trading some games for the system. I liked it for the shooters! They had some ok an they were a bit hard to get a hold of as well.
I had it when it came out really HATED the lack of background scrolls, the games were kinda cheaply made.
Great episode! Really loved Chris’s story! You should have him on the show some more sounds like he’s got lots of memories to share!
I always find it awesome when I find someone my age that actually had this stuff like I did. We were a rarity.
I always wondered how Johnny got all those girlfriends of his when he's such a big gaming nerd. That picture of him at 17 years old explains everything.
Hey I just wanted to drop by and give a huge thanks to you guys. I found so many awesome games from this channel (mainly Grandia one of my favorite games ever now) that have brought me great joy. I’m an Afghanistan War vet, and have had a difficult time coping with civilian life. I went through some really dark times recently and wanted to let you know video games have helped me to cope and have changed my life for the positive. I’m currently attending University for a Marketing degree and am doing well. The videos are entertaining and I love hearing about all of these great games and consoles. Don’t ever stop posting content! Video games rule! Take care! -SB77 (Mike)
To be quite honest I ordered one of these from Japan because of your review. I absolutely love it. I never owned one but I have played many of the games on here. I originally planned to buy one because of Rondo of Blood because I never played that game. I'm a huge fan of space shooters and this system delivers in every way. I have to finish by saying this mini system along with my Genesis Mini have been two of the best gaming purchases I've made in recent years.
So...
...I am wondering...
Where is the best place to order it in Japan?
I live in Germany, and the Coregrafx Mini is still in preorder status at amazon.co.uk, and there still is no information on when it's going to be available.
In fact, someone of the officials there seems to think it is sooo funny to make customers think it actually is going to be available in May 2050.
Ebay prices in Europe start at 199€ for used ones.
So, again:
Can you recommend a place to order via Japan?
Thank you John for such a wondeful video of memories, so much of it rings true to my own experiences of working shitty jobs to earn a few pennies to buy new games and very occasionally a new system. You're a legend! I'm so happy I brought my PC Engine back home to Japan when I moved here, even though I am not far off 40 :)
Yeah Ys 1 and 2 is fantastic. Played it for the first time about 5 years ago on the Wii after I first started watching your channel and loved it, music alone is worth it
I'm stoked that people are still getting it Ys 1 & 2 all these years later, and discovering that music! The cutscene music between book 1 & 2 is the best VG music of all time!
I haven't wanted a mini console enough to get one but when I see stuff like crishtangs lifeforce story it makes total sense to me why it's such a cool thing that these things keep getting released. Also I loved how he was nonchalant about converting his mini system into a portable. I was like "wait WHAT?!"
I know right!
It's so refreshing to see a channel with REAL gamers, not just collectors! Love your channel, the stories that you connect to the games get me so excited to watch your videos.
you're gonna be looking like Guile when quarantine is over. :)
Every where he goes, the theme plays from the heavens 🎼🎸
That's hilarious...Yet now I want to see him doing some Guile cosplay in a week or 2.
It truly is a privilege to watch your Sunday videos.
Cheers from Montreal!
Stay safe!
Final Lap Twin, no one ever talks about it. It was a racing RPG, haven't seen anything like it since. Try it out.
Sounds really awesome actually. When I grab mine, I'll try it!
Loving the content. The stories and memories you share with your opinions make this one of the best channels around. All the best from one of your most biggest and most remote fans here in the Falkland Islands, South Atlantic Ocean.
Hahahaha...@ 16:00 "One of my favorites, Dungeon Explorer.. Realistically what it is,is a Dungeon Explorer" haha for some reason I got s kick out of that description.
Always fun watching your videos, love the vibe you give and its easy to see/feel your genuine love for these old school games and systems! @HappyConsoleGamer
Happy times are here again, I'll watch this on the TV! Cheers John! I already know Chris Tang is in this! :)
OMG that Salamander/Life Force story! Great video brother! I hope Konami makes it easier for people to get this system-it’s incredible!
Thanks Vic! we both put out videos today on these games!!
I can’t believe it’s missing The legendary ax and Kieth courage in alpha zone.
Best mini console I have. Even not hacked... lots of fun just a blast. That being said...
I really enjoyed Salamander. I do like the destroy them all at the begging of that and the Gradius. Rondo of Blood is my favorite Castlevania by far..also it is in my top 10 for sure. I am afraid to plus this mini back in, I have spent hours with it already.
Salamander is my all time fave game, my best game machines from technical point are the PC Engine and the Sharp X68000, they were a head of their time back then. Keep up the good work Johnny.
Want one! Love to you and Kim x
As I’m watching this video, DHL shows up with my Turbografix-16 mini from Japan. 🤣 what are the chances. Thanks for picking my first plays for me Johnny!
Love how these systems got a mini version. For someone like me who wasn't sure if he wants to grab a PC Engine at first or not, this is an awesome way to try these out for the first time. Now I just need to decide which version of these mini systems I want to grab!
What a fantastic review! I might have to check out some more of your videos. Thank you for the video.
Great video! Here are some of my favorites on the mini in no particular order:
Y's Book I&II, Splatter House, Blazing Lasers, Dracula X, Spriggan, Soldier Blade, Bonk's Adventure, Bonk's Revenge, Air Zonk.
I have the original Lords of Thunder on the Duo, and the mini version seems to have some noticeable lag that isn't present in the other games, so it doesn't make the list for me.
Very excited to dig into Sapphire and the Super Grafx version of Ghouls 'n Ghosts as I've never gotten to try those out before.
Still bummed that a few of my favorites didn't make the cut for the mini- Keith Courage, Dragon's Curse, Legenary Axe, Gates of Thunder, and Parodius Da come to mind.
I order the core grfx mini insted of the the turbo grfx from amazon japan because it got a smallest version of the console and the turbo switch best of both world !!!
Same games too!
i have no nostalgia for these games and sistem since they were before my time but still its nice to see the passion you and Chris have for them. btw you were complaining about your hair in the last video, its clearly getting big but it looks good
Thank you! Oh and the hair..it is an experiment out of my control!
Im going to buy this purely for the YS games. The rest are just a bonus.
Enjoy Lords of Thunder, too. A cinematic CD- gaming masterpiece :)
@@BushinRyuCat Unfortunately Lords of Thunder has a noticeable amount of lag. The other shooters on the mini don't seem to be affected as bad, so it's a shame since Lords of Thunder is fantastic. Gotta make sure to put your display in "game" mode to minimize the lag as much as possible.
Wish there was Ys III (though not as good as Book I & II) and an English version of Ys IV. I still own the OG Ys IV Japanese game. Beat it with the help of an English translation guide but still missed a ton of the story line. :/
jpablo700 I agree that game never seems to show up on anything. The music was just as amazing as the first two
Ah yes, two greens and a yellow all day, every day in Spriggan.
Salamander: Destroy them all
Chris: Yes
Thank you Johnny, yourself and Chris ROCK!!!! 🎸
Love the show man, great being taken back. Congrats on your pregnancy, I had my first 4 months ago. Was wondering if you know a good place to look for a used ps4 in the Vancouver and Coquitlam area. I’ve never owned one but need to continue shenmue and some other games.
I remember the first time I saw the water reflections in pokmeon ruby and sapphire, utterly blew my little mind!
Also Ys books 1 and 2 is unreal. To be able to play that game for the first time and take myself back to being a child which I would have been at the time...And seeing all it offers is mind blowing. It takes me back to playing old Sierra games on the PC too. Really, really enjoyed it. I tried starting with Ys8 and played like 6 hours and it’s good, but really the story just doesn’t compare. Ys 1 and 2 is like a really really good book.
Everybody has a different "Destroy them all" in video games, and I've been collected a lot of those in Master System, Supernintendo... AMAZING story! Video game is all about of having fun and nostalgia.
Johnny, I just recently got a Core Grafx 2 with a Turbo Everdrive. It has become my second favorite console only after the Super Famicom.
I love your channel been watching since 2017,went back and watched almost all your videos and continue to do so especially the older stuff.
3:48 Bruh you low key Rufus Shinra! LMAO!
Man, I want that console!, even though I never had a TurboGfx as a kid. I do have a Raspberry Pi, but it's not the same, especially since M2 was behind this console. The quality of the Genesis mini, showed that M2 really cares about these systems, and it shows in the details they put into them. To bad this pandemic is making ordering online a real pain.
Rondo of blood is one of my all time favorites. Would love to try out y’s 1 and 2 though.
If you ever get the chance you should do a video on Suikodenn 2... one of the greatest PlayStation 1 games of all time if you can get your hands on a copy I highly suggest it. Anyway another great video you put out some good stuff.
It's thanks to your Ys retrospective from some years ago I bought Books I & II . Great games, thanks for the recommendation!
Awesome when it is an 8 bit machine like the regular NES. So compair 8 bit systems, this one knocked it out of the park.
I just wanted a tg16 mini for Valkyrie Densetsu but I really want to play all the games in this vid now!
My only gripe with Alien Crush is when it keeps flashing switching from the top and bottom. Other than that I love it and the Turbografx Mini.
Alien Crush has amazing graphics and sound better than anything on Genesis. Too bad it doesnt have enough levels.
Probably one of the only consoles Ive never owned or played. Im not interested in teh shooter games but the others look amazing! Very cool.
Ohya, I love that game so much I just became the new Ys Book 1 & 2 World Champion!
Hey Ryan!! good to see you!!
@@HappyConsoleGamer Hey Johnny, good to see ya doing better dude.
This guy is a fan,a real ,Ican see it within his eyes.respect.The passion is such a wonderful thing
R-type , I had Amiga version and eventually snes SFC versions... R-type was the most juiciest shoot em up game !!! Lovely!😃
Hey! Hope you are doing good brother. Thanks for all your awesome videos.
I love the picture of you when you were 17. I was just like that when I was in high school as well. The 1990's were great weren't they? You're a bit older than me...I think (I'm closing in on 40). I have a picture of me in pre-slap mode that reminds me of this picture. I was sitting in my mother's living room playing Fatal Fury on the Genesis as my mother walked in with the camera. I'm wearing baggy khaki pants, a green tshirt, green Nike's, and a giant gold marijuana leaf around my neck. For the time, I was a stylin guy (1993/1994'ish). I was really into Cypress Hill at the time...
At any rate, my mom tells me to look up and say "cheese." Unfortunately, I forgot I had a giant gold marijuana leaf around my neck. I deservedly got the backhand of justice and I lost my leaf. Of course I replaced it but man was she steamed. My face is in half "cheese" and backhanded mode. We still laugh about that picture today. What's absolutely hilarious about all of this is what I became in life....I went to college for criminal justice and criminal psychology. I work in the field of criminal psychology and I moonlight in academia. Back then I was always in some sort of trouble. Thankfully, when I hit the ripe old age of 18...I stopped being a moron. I'm still a gamer for life and I will always love yout channel. Your content and positivity cannot be beat my friend.
Hopefully we get this in the west soon can't afford to import
December 31 2020 ☹
@@armageddonisuponus7378 Thats the release date?
@@armageddonisuponus7378 that's just that last date they can put to this year without freaking people out by adding next year. Konami doesn't even know when these will ship so that date is fabricated
Exactly. It's the same price. I ordered one of all 3 and should be here soon.
Update! Now it's Jan '21.
Chris Tang's Life Force story is one of the best told stories ever. Too satanic level.
Johnny I'm so glade to see your ok and healthy! Your one of the OGs of the RUclips world of gaming 👍👍
You've got to grow your hair out Johnny, join us middle aged rockstar wannabes!
We need a Trials of Mana 2020 review from you!!!!!
I was going to leave the same comment asking for that! haha
Honestly my first thoughts video summed it up for me! I would have been doing the same video again :)
I got Turbografx-16 Mini for my Christmas Present 2020 my best game on mini system R-Type, Fantasy Zone, Blazing Laser, Ninja Spirt, Space Harrier, Parasol Star, Galaga'88, Super Star Soldier, Gradius, Gradius 2, Salamander, The Genji and the Heike Klans, The Legend of Valkyire, Super Darius, Bomberman 93 and 94, Star Parodier and Chew Man Fu
excellent video ! Gonna have to get a turbo grfx myself
I'm so excited, I finally bit the bullet and ordered from Japan, it should be here in the next couple of days. Yay!
Johnny, I'm disappointed there's no love for Double Dungeons in this video.
Star Parodier is one of my favorites. I find it to be very playable with a nice difficulty arch, plus it's damn cute. A really great entry in the Soldier series.
what died Chris Tang do to that turbo mini in handheld mode? I love that.
Spriggin had awesome music, as did most shooters on the PC Engine and Super CD. My favorite shooters are Gunhed (Blazing Lazers) and Soldier Blade.
Loved the lifeforce / salamander story! Destroy them all is iconic. Kudos from Belgium 👌
They should release the Turbo Express with all the of Mini's games on it.
I feel like I’m the only person really excited that Cadash is on here. I fed many, many quarters into the Cadash machine at my local arcade, and remember really enjoying the TG16 version that my friend had. Super excited to get one of these!!
The TG version of Cadash is pretty weak be prepared for a let-down!
Awesome video. Please have Chris on more often
The 1991 snes SFC version of capcoms super ghouls and ghosts was the best , most Amazing cinematic music and incredible graphics !!!!
Heyyyyooooo!!!! Iv been playing the Legend of Dragoon during this time and wwoww. I love it. Hope all is well Johnny. Sending good vibes and blessings.
Tut
Johnny getting the mad scientist look going :)
LOL if this keeps going I am going full crazy!
Now I want one! Awesome video man
Thanks for your nice video Johnny. I can't wait for the mod either. But now that mean you'll have to do a video about, what we should add to our Mini, when the mod will be there. I'm looking forward to it. :)
I’m still waiting on my ordered console 😩
Mine arrived today! 😎🔥💪🏼
Johnny was in that Vanilla Ice Stage lol, I was there too but younger.
I never owned a TG16 as a kid so I'm really looking forward to exploring the system.
BUT one game I did love on the system was Cadash! I played the arcade game all the time, both the actual unit and emulation. So I'm looking forward to seeing the TG16 version!
Keith Courage, Dungeon Explorwr, Rtype, Bloody Wolf
(And The Game you showed at 400 looks like Musha on Sega SEGA Genesis!!)
Blazing Lazers and Soldier Blade are my fave hu card games on it 🤘 love Star Parodier on CD and Ghouls N Ghosts was definitely a selling point
Great Childhood we all have
Thanks to you I order one on Amazon Japan. Ebay is scalping it.
This channel is a lifesaver!
Mine is coming in tomorrow! I can't wait!
I can't wait until the mod community has it ready so I can put Last Alert on it been wanting to play that ever since your video. That game has the best voice acting in gaming history it beats Resident Evil. Lol
GUY! THE STEALTH BOMBER IS IN THE BACK OF THIS FACTORY!
The most bittersweet game on the Mini is Snatcher because it’s only in Japanese and I would’ve loved to have played it in English 😞
I really wish they had silent debuggers, bloody wolf, Jackie chan's action kung fu, I get why that one isn't there, or air zonk on it. I got a tg16 when it was on it's way out. Most of the games dropped to around 15-20 bucks so I got a lot of games. Airzonk never went down in price.
I absolutely love Snatcher in its uncensored form. It's a shame they left it in Japanese, but I manage to play it with a cellphone and google translate in front of the tv screen...
happy when somebody is happy for something he enjoys great story CRISHTANG
Great video 👍
I need to get a modded one of these with the full library. I need DEVILS CRUSH and LAST ALERT!
The system was overshadowed by its peers Genesis & SNES but it was a great system in its own right.. I remember I picked up Blazing Lazers knowing absolutely nothing about it.. And, it turned out to be the best shooter I’d ever played even surpassing Galaga in my mind..
YS unfortunately I hadn’t discovered until the PSP days but hey I gotta commend the people who did research enough to know all the best titles! It was essentially TurboGrafX’s answer to Zelda..
It may have had a smaller library than other classic systems.. Yet it was still well rounded as far as genres..
I kinda wanna know more about this drywalling job.
3:52 Is this like a promo shot for a movie you were in back in the day or CD cover?
Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love mine!!!!!
Dracula X is just the best, realy love this Game 😉🤘
I just bought the last pc engine mini from Amazon UK , now it's unavailable!!! Should be coming next week!!! Yaaay!😃
Q: To You & Kim - Have you considered naming your kid after a favorite video game character? Like how Robin Williams named his daughter after Zelda. If you had to, what would you each pick?
I'm too young to have any nostalgia for this system, but I would definitely play Ys 1 + 2, Rondo of Blood and Ghouls and Goblins are good as well. I've played this version of Ys 1 a few years ago but got stuck at the vampire boss. This one is a pain, I didn't find him so hard in Ys Chronicles.
Nice appearance by Sega champion
