- A video walk through of the Hamner Home in Schuyler, Virginia during our recent Vacation trip to the area. August 2014.
The Hamner house is the childhood home of Earl Hamner and is located in Schuyler VA. Schuyler is the inspiration for Waltons Mountain and the houses is the inspiration for The Waltons home. As you can see it is quite a bit smaller than the one on the TV show.. Развлечения
There's a saying that you can never go 'home' again. Well with this tour we just did. Thank you.💖
I could listen to the opening theme song all day...What memories...I am 57 and after having read the book "Spencer's mountain", watching the movie of the same name as well as The Homecoming and all of the Walton episodes, again and again, from my shy childhood on up I feel as though I am a part of this wonderful family. Surely many of us feel the same. Thank you so much for sharing this. Warm regards.
Lisa S. Ditto but 55yom😛
I have the theme song as my ringtone
I was born & raised on the northern part of Albemarle County and grew up watching The Walton’s. My maternal grandmother was the same age as Earl Hamner and her parents home was very similar. I still adore the series and it makes me think of my grandmother growing up during the depression.
That is so awesome I love the Waltons
Randy thank you so very much for a magnificent tour of Earl Hamner's home. This was simply beautiful. When I turned 50 in 2014 my Sister Elizabeth and I went in June to Schuyler and walk in Earl boy hood home. It was just like your beautiful video, all the memories came back to me. This was best Birthday gift I ever got. Memories I will cherish forever. Again thank you so very much.
great video...makes me want to visit....RIP Earl and thnx for sharing your childhood
What beautiful old home! I could easily live in this home just as it is. No changes need be made because it's already perfect. 😊👍👍
Iam the youngest out of 15, our family reminded me of the Waltons, we didn't have a whole lot but one thing we did have that money can't buy is love, God I miss those days
My wife and I toured the house a couple of weeks ago and it is fantastic The docent is charming and has an amazing familiarity with the show, as well as with both the Hamners and the Waltons. I've been watching this wonderful program again and again for 47 years. The house, like the show is absolutely fantastic! (BTW, Mr. Hamner originally actually purchased the house for $500.00)
It is strange to see so many things in this house from the piano to the Big Chief tablet, the light fixtures and switch plates, the sinks and tub, the embroidery, the rugs, etc. that I remember so vividly in my grandmother's house from when I was a boy. That house was built in the 1930's too. And this type of home which was such a part of my early childhood is now considered historical and a landmark.
This house is definitely a lot smaller than the Waltons home but I loved the tour. Awesome!
(Yes, ALOT smaller), especially the living rm..
But it was a home to a wonderful family.
The house on the Homecoming movie was small more real.
Because it was a set not a real house
It's because it's the original childhood home of the Author
I want to go there so badly. Thank you for the video!
How were more and more captavated by the time of what was slipping away faster and faster! The simpler times, family and all else that was so love the Walton's Amy day...Every Day! Thanks for Earl Hammer and his whole Family
RIP Earl Hamner Jr. Goodnight Earl Boy... Hoping to visit in a few years , God Bless
Such a kind sentiment. Lovely.
Beautifully done I Love The Waltons they feel just like family
I really can't watch all of it once it's too much for me. It's so beautiful. I love to hear them all talk about the show. I am so glad that it's on Me-TV again. I have to watch this in segments so I can observe it all
We had 11 people living in our tiny house growing up. I'm glad I experienced living with so many people and having so much fun.
Outside more citified than the series set but house pretty much the same, maybe different turn of stairs location, etc. And kitchen more modern looking...but it's a great home to grow up in. Sorta like so many if us in the 30's and 40's. Loved ecpvery show.
Ah wow thank you so much for sharing this beautiful home of the real Earl Hamner & sibling .so quaint.love it. Earl was a genius.we miss this man. Uk 🇬🇧
I wanted to dwell on some of the scenes a little longer, so I turned my settings to 1/2 speed. I loved some of the small details, such as John-Boy's spectacles and the embroidered table runner. I liked that the videographers caught scenes out of some of the widows because they were special too.
I wish you'd do that again, but next time don't move around so fast - stop and focus on some of the most interesting spaces in the house. I almost got dizzy watching the video - still, it's fun to see, and I hope to go there in person one day.
The inside is so much smaller than the house that you see in the TV series. I don't know how they fit all those people in that tiny house. Amazing.
My grandparents on my dad side had 14 children and they lived in a 2 bedroom shack. Might have been poor but do I ever cherish those memories
SUCH A BLESSING TO ME & MY FAMILY . THNKS EARL! THNKS EVERYBODY! WE TREASURE UR STORIES.
Thank you so much for share this video. Thank you for share ones love this show and real Waltons home.
The Waltons reminded me of growing up in the old rustic farm house. We constantly worked hard lol. We thought the Waltons rather prosperous compared to our family unit. Being so far into the poverty line, none of my family went to prison or had difficulty as like. Being poor does not mean crime. It means you work hard and respect life.
One of my favorite places in the world. The house was under construction when we were there 6 years ago. I'll have to plan another trip! Thanks for sharing.

THE DINNING ROOM AND KITCHEN LOOKS SO SMALL AND DIFFERENT THEN THE SHOW..
I love the Watsons i never missed a show it's a beautiful family show and I wish sometimes I could be there with them on watons mountain it's so beautiful and to meet All of them in person love the Watsons so much
ahhhhhhhh, how sweet- for my family and friends if you will look carefully you will recognize things in this Walton that remind you of pieces and features found in my own home in Brundidge, Alabama..
Wonderful tour of the house. Thanks for sharing this with us. Great show.
This is a awesome house tour! :) Love the series even I am young and wanted to see how the real house looks. I can not belive that none of the eight childreen or their childreen took that house. It looks so lovely outside, it´s a really perfect home :)
The youngest son, who never married lived there with his Mom and stayed there after her death but the house became run down. He sold it and moved into an apartment. The new owner restored the house and opened it for tourists.

It´s nice of the new owner to open the house for tourists, so the memories will live on forever! :))
Yeah, why didn't Earl Hamner restore the house himself and have it on display?? (I'm surprised he didn't)
@@desratlinda8639 that's what I wondered also considering he wad wealthy by that time. Seems like although he wrote the series about his original home, he had no plans on preserving it as it today.
The digital thermostat at around 0:51 is similar to the one we have upstairs in our home. I'm guessing that's one of the few modern amenities the house couldn't well do without, due to practicality; but it does sort of shake you out of the 1930's ambience.
Also the manual Remington in the upstairs bedroom is a sight better than the one John-Boy borrowed from the Baldwins in, "The Typewriter," lol.
Love this.when were in Virginia yes ago, we were gonna tour the real place.my sons girlfriend got sick. It's the one thing I've always wanted to see.but this helps. Some. Thanks.
Lisa Stone You must go there tho! This is like seeing Heaven...but cannot go there!
Now this was a wonderful tour!! Thanks!
That is very sad to know that a family lives like that and I feel sorry for them and they didn't have much but they have love and i love the Walton home
Thank you for share this video alway like inside home now know . Truly enjoy this video so much. Nice learn history of the Waltons.
Beautiful home
I've been to the museum in Schuyler Va. a nice experience
Been there twice and going again this Spring.
I went up there it's a beautiful home we got to walk through the house
I ALSO TOOK THE TRIP AND HAVE A PICTURE WITH THE GRANDMA DORIS.HAPPY TIMES
This is so awesome. I would love to learn the waltz with this music.
I always wondered why, in some of the models of the Walton's house, they leave off the side porch entrance.
Good memories thanks all.
I love history and I love the Walton's. My mothers family from Ky was an awful lot like the Waltons. My grandfather was a minister and a coal miner. He and my grandmother Della raised 6 children in a white farm house., a bit larger than this one. I noticed though that there wasn't any room for the grandparent Walton's, did they not live in the house with the family? Beautiful home - thanks for the tour
Most likely not, I think that was a subplot for the show, not a real-life situation.
@@heathermccormick6512 The grandparents lived close by. The girls were in one bed room & the boys in the other bed room upstairs. The parents bed room was downstairs.
The girls had a bed room, the boys had the other bed room upstairs, the parents had a bed room downstairs. The grandparents lived near by.
@@ghostcityshelton9378 that makes sense, thanks a lot!
I just read the house has been sold to 3 enthusiasts of his work. they are going to turn it into a museum. (bought for $345,000) less than a million. so affordable
The last son who never married lived with his mom till she died & He lived there but after the house was let to be run down He sold the house & moved into an apartment.
The house has been restored as you see it today & turned into a museam.
I always wondered about the room to the left as you came in.Just a door ,and how unique the stairs were .
Love the Walton's and Hamners
Awww I love it
Wonderful !!
Awesome. Please slow the camera movements down
You rock thank you so much
LOVING THE WALTONS ♥️
Where the hell did they all sleep? I'm counting 5 beds!
in their trailors or at home at night. The walton house was just a front. When you walked in,..it was just studios. The walton house on TV was not real
I just can't imagine how 4 boys were in one room. They must've had another bed in there at one point
@M K. People make do with what they had back in the day. Life was more simple, and to me so much better.
i loved watching the walton in the 70s this show was like family as i come from a large family 5 girls & 2 boys and I'm enjoying watching
it all over again on INSP CHANAL
i remember watching a movie starring miss o.hara and henry Fonda and i think the family name then was Sullivan
Spencer mountain?
Only two bedrooms upstairs?...for seven kids? (Since Paul Hamner said the youngest slept with Ma and Pa downstairs.)
How did all of them fit?
What I wouldn't give to walk through those doors
No fireplacw in the livingroom
Well done.
Thank you.
What is the name of the song they play !!!!
Cool! Thanks! :)
i wish i had a house like that..
Only three bedrooms with so many people? Did the grandparents live there too?
it is a wonderful home the hamners had 8 kids looks small but they managed I heard they rented the home is it true ? doesn't manner they were a wonderful family I meant them earl was awonderful person
How much is admission to the Hamner home and what days and hours are they open?
+Donald Derrick I think we paid $7 each.
I would love to visit ,but i wish it was just like they had it on the show, the front of the house, lawn not the same, some of the things i see in this pictures are not the same, furniture arrangements not,and things in and on the walls ,lots of stuff i wish could be at least almost the same. But i would still like to see it.
There is a BNB there modeled after the set. Go to: facebook.com/profile.php?id=100057175910941 for info.
its smaller, but its very similar!
Lovely home. But tiny!
I wonder how many items in that house is original?
In my walkthrough, they said that the two chairs on the porch, the sofa, rocking chairs, piano, the kitchen table, Earl's desk in his room, and 1 of the beds in the bedrooms
Only three bedrooms, did all the boys share a room and all the girls share one? Where did they put the beds? Very tiny bedrooms!
+regina stein - Really! In the TV show, there were five bedrooms. They would've needed a bare minimum of at least four.
+ThatClassic70sGirl The grandparents did not actually live with the Hamners. They lived close by though. Three girls shared one room and the boys shared the other. The parents had the room down stairs.
Cool
I like this video very much. Was expecting narration. Would be even more interesting.
Why did they not call the show The Hamners? The show should've found a house and laid it out just like this one. That's what gets me about movie series etc
Because Earl wrote FICTION based on his childhood, simular but not autobiograpthical in the pure sense of the word, it bought enought attention to his brothers, sisters and mother, can you image if it were called by his real surname, those dear ones would have had no private life AT ALL
I name my son Earl back 1991 I though was good name. I guess made good choice .
Wheres the window that Grandpa put in
The grandparents did not actually live in the same house though they were nearby.
After looking at it ,nothing looks it the house is not the same shape ,nothing its just old things😢
Why is it called hammer house
NICE REMODEL, DOES THE HAMNER FAMILY STILL OWN IT. AND I NOTICED NO TOILET IN THE BATHRM...WAS THERE AN OUTHOUSE USED WAY BK THEN?
No the Hamner's do not own it anymore. There is a toilet. You can catch a glimpse of it at +- 1:04. It's in that closet looking area by the sink.
o yeah, now i got a glimpse. ive always loved the waltons, tv show. never got to visit schuylar va. though, looks like a tiny quiet community.
If you can make it to Schuyler VA it would be worth your time. It is a small community but they have the Walton's Mountain Musuem, the Hamner House the Baptist Church the Hamner's went to and also the Walton's MOuntain Country Store. Here are some pics I took: goo.gl/LH7m0K
No, they don't own it. It was purchased and the new owner restored it.
glad someone who cares bought it...weird huh how family members don't even want to own and restore homes they grew up in. I would've if I had been a hamner, lol
Are you the same Randy Highsmith that is the webmaster for www.walton-mountain.org
It’s so small
Nicebig
Homefortv
This vid is so fucking lame
I asked to watch Gunsmoke not no damn Waltons
Guess we can't have everything we want in life. You can watch re-runs of it now. :>)
Beautiful home
