    dear losers, i know what this must seem like, but this is not a suicide note. you’re probably wondering why i did what i did. it’s because i knew i was too scared to go back. and if we weren’t together, if all of us alive weren’t united, i knew we’d all die so, i made the only logical move. i took myself off the board. did it work? well, if you’re reading this, you know the answer. i lived my whole life afraid. afraid of what would come next, afraid of what i might leave behind. don’t. be who you want to be. be proud. and if you find someone worth holding onto, never ever let them go. follow your own path, wherever that takes you. think of this letter as a promise, a promise i’m asking you to make. to me. to each other. an oath.see, the thing about being a loser is you don’t have anything to lose. so be true. be brave. stand. believe. and don’t ever forget, we’re losers and we always will be.

    anyone else deeply depressed that all the surviving losers get a happy ending except richie? bill improves his writing, mike finally leaves derry, ben's feelings are reciprocated by his childhood love, bev found someone who'll never hurt her. but richie has to live with the fact that the only person he ever loved was stabbed right in front of him, the man he loved for 27 years literally died for him. and he never got any closure for his feelings. i hope hes alright

    • @liquid_pig
      @liquid_pig 5 лет назад +118

      It's not the storybook happily-ever-after ending Ben and Bev get, but I didn't see it as depressing, more bittersweet. Richie's fear is his friends finding out he's attracted to men and rejecting him because of it; that's what Pennywise taunts him with. Even though it is not explicitly stated, I believe that in the quarry scene the other losers are meant to understand the nature of his feelings for Eddie, and instead of being repulsed by him they hold him and comfort him and accept him completely, and that's his catharsis after being ashamed and in hiding for so long. I think his character arc is about him realizing he has friends who love him for who he is and that he can lean on them when things get hard, which is his first step to being more free and fulfilled. It's heartbreaking that he loses Eddie, but it doesn't mean he'll never find love and/or happiness again.

    • @princessgotchi
      @princessgotchi 5 лет назад +36

      Liquid Pig even tho its still a beautifully tragic ending for richie, one cant help but feel like he deserved to be much happier than what he got .... the others got their best possible outcomes. but richie's was ripped from him when eddie died. all he gets is to keep the bittersweet memories of his childhood, returning all the years he lost. but theres also the eternal incompleteness that he never got to tell eddie how he felt, and the painful possibility that they could've had a life together if things were different. its hard to believe he'd move on from that at all :(

    Richie insulted Eddie all the time because it was how he expressed his love. He was clearly the most affected by Eddies death. And the worst part for me is how avoidable it was, if only he hadn’t let his guard down. "I'm a loser. And I always fucking will be."
    Stanley is truly the most complex and beautiful character in the story and they really did him justice over what he got in the 90's miniseries. He and Eddie were the farthest thing from cowards, maybe even some of the bravest members of the Losers.
    Also, did you know this is the same theme as the Blood Oath, which, canonically in the book, he suggested?

    • @ryanstauffer119
      @ryanstauffer119 27 дней назад

      The thing is, the 2017 film almost didn’t include Stan. They were going to remove him. Heck, he was originally supposed to be Bill’s pet fish that Henry fried. I’m glad they didn’t do that. Stan is just as important as the rest of the Losers. And they made this version of him better than the 1990 version. His story was ended better than the book even.

    Stan was always my favourite loser. Watching him die was so painful. Especially since in this movie, his death is so much more emotional. The way he cried as the camera slowly zoomed out to reveal the bathtub filling with blood was a shocking moment for me. And I couldn’t help but cry too. The way the scene was intercut with the blood oath was an amazingly beautiful way to enhance the scene and its emotion even more. I’m glad they gave a deeper reason behind his death in this movie, but it made it all the harder to watch. R.I.P. Stanley.

    This is so much more than a horror movie, yet it was the most terrifying/humbling movie I’ve ever seen. It was knowing that things will never be what they used to be, and cherishing memories, the people around us here and now. That’s what scares me the most, especially in this generation. I hope someday in another life, I can experience that kind of childhood/teenage hood.
    But nevertheless, I’m as young as I ever will be, had beautiful moments with my friends which make me cry now thinking about it.
    Times are changing but there’s nothing you can do, so hold on to the people that are special and forget all the extras.

    I lost my brother to suicide in August of 2019, when the movie was released I didn't see it until my Uncle asked me if I wanted to go see a movie. I love Stephen King, and I didn't want to miss out on seeing this, so I chose to see this regardless of how I felt, because I needed to get out of the house due to isolating myself. I've read the book and I know of Stan's suicide. When this theme played in the theater, I was crying for my brother and over Stan's death. The letter made me cry most of all, because my brother left a note for our family to read about his suffering. My brother was a very strong person, he was suffering side. He had deep dark depression since his childhood. Anytime I hear this theme, I think of my brother, who has a beautiful soul, who's touched many people's lives.

    Stanley predicted that his lack of courage would be the fall of the Losers. He knew that the Losers had to be one single force against IT, and that his lack of courage wouldn't make this possible. He couldn't run away, otherwise the group would feel weakened by the betrayal. If he was going to stay away from IT and at the same time keep the group united and determined to win, there was only one way. He took his own life so his friends could fight to avenge him and get a shot against IT. Not all heroes in this story fought the monster head on. In the end, the one thought to be the weakest link made the boldest move.

    Considering their respective journey was tainted by the trauma of a terrorising clown, it was also touched by the milestones of love, friendship, success and discovering your place in the world. And those themes are captured so beautifully in this film, especially in it’s closing moments, that you can’t ignore the power and influence of IT to truly be one of the only scary stories with a heart. Finding the balance between pure fear and pure love in equal measure and winning us all over in the process. And that’s an incredible achievement in storytelling.
