I bought one of those mini DSLR style cameras for $3 on AliExpress and put a little bit of tape (yes, tape...) around it and my little quadcopter lifts it really easily. Was a steal for the price!
Well, at 15fps, the video is not amazing .. and the colors seem to change depending on which way the craft was facing. Here's a better solution. There is a NEW Mobius Mini ("A" lens = 110 deg FOV), which weighs only 27grams. It shoots at 1080P 60 FPS, and 720P 120 FPS - VGA @ 240 FPS. It's $69 at the China e-Tailers. As for lifting the heavier RunCam/Mobius 42gm cameras, I agree that it is too much for a Syma X5, but if you still have your BoJiang S1 around, it WILL carry it to GREAT heights, no sweat. Of all the minis I've flown, the BoJiang S1 has the most lift. The little 33041 has as much lift as the X5C, and can carry an 808 as well. I'd like to get one of the new Mobius Minis and put it on my BoJiang S1, to take some weight off of it. I still have one of my old balsa and monocoat 2 meter gliders in the back room. One of these days, I'll convert it over to use my spare 8 ch. FrSky RX and my Taranis 9D+ TX. It should be able to carry just about any camera aloft. Thanks for the review .. the little cam has some interesting capabilities for $16. Cheers.
this is great i have a few large older drones where the cameras dont work or wont link to wifi i am not bothered about fpv so this camera would allow me to get some video
When you mentioned the thermals I noticed you were above your car. Are you sure those therms weren't your own hot air ? :) Lots of good info, look forward to more.
Oops! Beware of the plane eating bushes :) I'm not sure that the low frame rate makes 1080p worthwhile and would be interested to see how the cam performs at 720p for comparison. Good review
Hey just a note... hope you don't mind, but in your video you make mention of "keeping your transmitter pointed at it" as in the model. I'm not 100% sure what you meant by that, but pointing the tip of your transmitter's antenna at the model is a bad idea. The tip of the antenna is the place where the transmission is at its weakest. You should try to keep the sides of the antenna pointing towards the model for strongest signal. Sorry if you knew this and meant something else in your video... I'd just hate for you / someone else to lose a favourite model. :) Thanks for the review - it is a nice little camera and, for the money, definitely worth picking up.
I don't have the SQ8 myself. I now have a Mobius Mini for HD camera for small quads. I also use the new Eachine TX03 on the small quad for doing FPV. I find that double sided sticky foam tape will hold the TX03 on okay. For the Mobius Mini, I just use velcro, which works fine. Cheers.
Vid looked more than good enough for me. :) You probably answered this before, I'm too lazy to go through all your vids. ;) What you wearing on your head to shoot your videos?
Actually wanted this camera while back reviews of overheating ..so I got the x6 1080 spycamera from yukster 14.99 shipped its about size of a small domino and has all kinda features and is 30 fps on hexacopter has jello but on my Cessna is clear babygopro
Try resetting the camera. There's a tiny hole right beside the micro USB port (marked with a small "R" by the hole). Take a pin or unbent paperclip, and insert it into that hole. Then try starting the camera.
from what I read it record 30 frames per second at 1080p 15 would be just absolutely terrible I believe but then again the sellers website could have the facts all wrong
I bought the FPV kit for X5C and the wight of that camera is also about 22 grams which is more than twice the weight of the original X5C camera. The quadcopter can fly with it but it really struggles when the battery is getting weaker.
I bought this $10 cam after watching this, used velcro to secure it at the same place there and sadly, my F959 couldn't carry the weight. It just dropped straight away after launch. :(
Did you trim it for the change in CG? It's that button just to the left of the pitch stick. For the added weight on the nose, try bumping that button down several times until the airplane smooths out its flight.
Quadcopter 101 Oh really? I did not do any trimming. I flew without it first, looked OK, landed then placed the camera on it. Tried thrice, dropped like a stone then I gave up and flew without it. Will give another try next week, Thanks for the info. Really appreciate it. :)
Hi I'm quite new to this channel but I really enjoy your content. Can you please recommend me a drone/quadcopter under 100 dollars or maybe a tiny bit over? Oh and I would really love one with a decently good camera with it. Please respond!
Tom Colquhoun I'd recommend the Syma X8G. I have the Syma X8G and the quality is amazing! The video's that I upload on my channel are made with a Syma X8G, so you can see the quality of the camera. The Syma X8G costs about $110 on Banggood.com
I am New to the world of Quadcopters . I have Hubsan 502e . Can some one guide me on what i need to do in terms of legal thing before i fly my Quad . Do I need to register my quad get some sort of licence . I checked the FAA page its asks me to pay $50 for registration . Just want to know what Exactly i need to do to fly and not Get into trouble. Please help .
You don't need to register your H502E with the FAA, as it weighs less than 250 grams. More importantly, stay away from whatever site that asked you to pay $50, as I can almost guarantee that it is a SCAM site. If it doesn't say FAA.gov at the ending of its URL, then it's a scam. The FAA registration *is only $5* and takes 5 minutes to get your registration number, which is good for ALL of your quadcopters. Here is the official FAA registration site registermyuas.faa.gov/
Quadcopter 101 yea I just figured you could test it to see if there was any noise or change in flight with it on, and yea I got it fixed, still trying to figure out the different settings
It has a USB output port and video output cable, so I'd imagine so. Unfortunately the supplied cable is also attached to the USB charging cable (it's a dual use cable).
I really don't have many. I don't keep them (don't have the storage space), nor do I sell them (don't have the time). After their reviews are completed, they are donated to local schools and charities (Toys for Tots and school STEM clubs).
Make sure that its battery is fully charged. Also do not use a memory card larger than 32GB. Also try a different card if your current card is less than 32GB.
Are you sure, it has true 1080p resolution? Comparing it to the video from your hatcam, it looks really worse, so that I would guess it's another extrapolating cam only. For that price still ok, but I am afraid, it's not a replacement for my Mobius..
letsgoin2space It's 1080p, but it's lens is not the best (keep in mind it is a $15 camera). So no, this isn't a replacement for the excellent Mobious. But you might consider this as a cheap camera to throw on some of your smaller toy grade quadcopters. For example, its video is much better than the stock camera that comes with the Syma X5C.
Interesting little item; I guess the best review is just "it's really cheap, it's really small and light, let's see what kind of video it records". While you're working on post, you might check out AndyRC's tip on how to bump the frame rate from 30-60 fps. m.ruclips.net/video/r-TOmFf80iU/видео.html

Bill Somrak he made a mistake the camera is 1080p 30fps
you never cease to amaze me. Il also get that dv camera for my glider. unfortunately my FX807 got lost in the woods.
you had it in night vision mode, when u are ready to record you press the button once don't hold on it
this is great i have a few large older drones where the cameras dont work or wont link to wifi i am not bothered about fpv so this camera would allow me to get some video
I have the SQ8 camera, and from what I've noticed, the video footage seems far better in 720p than in 1080p.
When you mentioned the thermals I noticed you were above your car. Are you sure those therms weren't your own hot air ? :) Lots of good info, look forward to more.
Oops! Beware of the plane eating bushes :)

great video i am buying the sky king f959 and the SQ8 camera

+Jason Uberig I'm sorry that I wasn't clear, but that's what I meant. I keep the antenna perpendicular to the aircraft.
Cool. ;)
cool little camera. I would be interested in seeing the video quality at 720.
How do you not have a million subs? HAHAHA love your vids btw
You may want to try the new car keychain camera Mate808 that is capable of 1080p30.
SQ8 is on sale for the next 4 days for about $10.00 bucks right now.
hi Bill. how did you mount the sq8? any close up pics to figure out exact position and any specific velcro is advised? thanks
Cheers.
Hi Quadcopter 101, which is better XK DHC-2 DHC2 A600 or WLtoys F959 Sky King?
What do you recommend?
I think the F959 is a better starter aircraft.
Thanks.
Vid looked more than good enough for me. :)
You probably answered this before, I'm too lazy to go through all your vids. ;) What you wearing on your head to shoot your videos?
I go back and forth between two different camera. For this video I used a SJCAM M20 camera. But I also sometimes use a Mobius action camera.
Actually wanted this camera while back reviews of overheating ..so I got the x6 1080 spycamera from yukster 14.99 shipped its about size of a small domino and has all kinda features and is 30 fps on hexacopter has jello but on my Cessna is clear babygopro
mine doesn't charge nor does it come on upon first day of receiving it I don't see a charge light either, can you do a night vision test as well?
Try resetting the camera. There's a tiny hole right beside the micro USB port (marked with a small "R" by the hole). Take a pin or unbent paperclip, and insert it into that hole. Then try starting the camera.
hi good video. Just wanted to ask, is this camera video quality much better than the stock Syma X5HC camera?
`I think it is as it's 1080p.
hi 101 can this cam be used as an action cam? Keep up the good work!
from what I read it record 30 frames per second at 1080p 15 would be just absolutely terrible I believe but then again the sellers website could have the facts all wrong
It is 30 fps when recording at 720p. But if you set it to 1080p, it's lowered to about 15 fps as seen and demonstrated in this video.
That's a fairly good quality camera, just a shame it's only 15fps, but you can't get all of the bells and whistles for $15.
Could you do a video showcasing this camera on an x5c? Also, I love your channel, every video is entertaining.
Awesome video!
That cam ain't bad. Do you think my X5C Clone would be able to lift it?
I think so.
That looks very good. The 720p @ 30fps setting looks much better than the 1080p @ 15fps.
I bought the FPV kit for X5C and the wight of that camera is also about 22 grams which is more than twice the weight of the original X5C camera. The quadcopter can fly with it but it really struggles when the battery is getting weaker.
Thanks for the info
Hi, is it possible to chance the lens to a wide angle lens?
Won't this camera make loads of air drag ?
Not really, it's too tiny to make much drag.
nice cam, i'm going to check that out
Hey man, what would be the best option on 2020?
Thanks!
I bought this $10 cam after watching this, used velcro to secure it at the same place there and sadly, my F959 couldn't carry the weight.
It just dropped straight away after launch.
:(

:)
Does it make a difference that it's right in front of the air intake?
Not much. I left enough distance for cooling air to get in there.
did you output the video at 1080p?
Yes. But keep in mind that it was a drab overcast day in the desert. The video from my M20 hat cam also didn't look that great under those conditions.
1080p in my experience is only 15fps. You are better off using 720p which is 30fps.
I just don't see the advantage over the 808 here. The concept is good, but really need 30 fps.. Yes indeed, I really like my F959.
You can bind your flysky ia6 to the skyking and get more range
Yep, it also works with my T8SG Jumper

DroneLife ok I'll have a look
what is the exact weight of this bro
very interesting given me the idea of combining model aircraft flying with my Bird watching if it can be done without disturbing the birds too much :)

can you do a test of the camera mounted on the hubsan h501s?
But the H501S already has a very good 1080p camera? By the way, did you get your SQ8 camera working? Did the reset work?
Quadcopter 101 yea I just figured you could test it to see if there was any noise or change in flight with it on, and yea I got it fixed, still trying to figure out the different settings
can it be hooked up to a vtx
It has a USB output port and video output cable, so I'd imagine so. Unfortunately the supplied cable is also attached to the USB charging cable (it's a dual use cable).
Did you use a velcro tape to mount the camera?
+John Mark Tamano yes
As low as $9 on ebay. I have the round sq9 but have not tested it yet. I like the Worlds Smallest Camera the best so far.
How many planes and drones do you have?😊
Walter Houben maybe thousands😂
I really don't have many. I don't keep them (don't have the storage space), nor do I sell them (don't have the time). After their reviews are completed, they are donated to local schools and charities (Toys for Tots and school STEM clubs).
Awesome video !!!!!
I bought one but it only makes videos of 1 second and then turns off. Does anyone know how and can I fix this problem?
Make sure that its battery is fully charged. Also do not use a memory card larger than 32GB. Also try a different card if your current card is less than 32GB.
Quadcopter 101my card is 16 Gb and the Light should be pink right when is charged?
so is the 30fps wrong?
It is 30 fps when recording at 720p. But if you set it to 1080p, it's lowered to about 15 fps as seen in this video.

Thanks gracias bom video.ok
I use this camera on my syma x5c-1
+quadcopter101 can u do giveaways?
do you live in the dessert
Yes I do.
Holding the power button will power it down.... 2 yrs later lol
maybe good for something that move's slow like my rc model boat :)
