Kennedy didn't have a choice! In fact thete was a serious discussion about letting the Russians leave them there prior to making them an issue. It was decided that thr international perception of weakness by the US made it impossible to ignore the missiles being deployed. Let's make the facts perfectly clear, the Soviet Union made the decision to deploy nuclear missiles in the Cuban stratosphere because they felt that John F Kennedy was weak. His blunder in the bay of pigs, ignoring the berlin wall construction and timid stances in Vietnam as well as the Vienna Summit all were factors in the creation of the cuban missile crisis. His handling of the crisis is a totally different manner.

I concur with the Generals' perspective; however, they failed to consider the long-term implications. At that time, the Americans were unaware that the ICBMs stationed in Cuba were not equipped with nuclear warheads. This revelation came from several Russian officials who later acknowledged this fact decades later. The Russian government expressed a lack of complete trust in Castro. It is likely that the Russians would have attempted to seize Berlin and significant portions of Germany, which would have resulted in American casualties, thereby providing a pretext for U.S. airstrikes and an invasion of Cuba. The Russians anticipated a U.S. military response, which they could then leverage to justify their influence in other regions of the world. Such a scenario would have escalated tensions, placing U.S. and Russian military forces in dangerously close proximity. Regardless of the perceived strength of the Kennedy administration, it can be argued that the decision to maintain a level-headed approach during that period was the most prudent course of action, ultimately contributing to our survival today.

I'm not saying this to be picky . This is a fine documentary, maybe one of the best inva while. And this isn't really a fault because I've only read this in a book called "Nuclear Folley " by Plovsky, a professor of Russian history, if i recall his name correctly. So between the Vienna summit and emplacement of the missiles as a deterrent to invasion, Castro told Kruschev something to the effect " you realize we can do this legally, w/o going behind Kennedys back, because he's gonna respond . It would be best to tell them first. Kruschev "Nah it'll be fine." 😂. " Then Kruschev heard the speech. Anyway any rebuttals up or down always welcome. Thanks ever much

Went a little thick on the whole "Kennedy Mythology" I see.
Let's actually talk about facts and not myth.
    1. JFK actually instigated the Cuban Missile Crisis by going through with the Pay of Pigs Invasion and then coming off as weak and timid in his Summon with Khrushchev during their summit. Then Kennedy over complicated by placing nuclear weapons (Jupiter Missiles) into Turkey which gave the Soviet's the provocation to put their own in Cuba.
    2. The guy nearly started a Nuclear War for political reasons... As in... He didn't want to look weak in front of the American people and the world but never explained to the American people that the Soviets would be operating nuclear subs off our coast by 1965 with 3-4 times the Warheads on board as there were in Cuba.
    3. Had JFK simply gave the Cuban Exiles air cover ot just not gonr through with it in thr first place, the series of evehts that lead to thr Cuban Missile Crisis would not have happened to bring humanity to the brink of extinction.
Let me clear up something else ... John F Kennedy was never massively popular until after he was assassinated in Dallas, Texas in 1963. He narrowly win the 1960 election by a razor thing margin and it can be argued that it was on account by widespread voter fraud in Illinois, Texas and several other swing states.
In fact. 2 weeks before he was killed, he was actually under 50% in national opinion polls and a large reason he went to Texas was he was endanger of losing it in 1964 and with it the election. (The South made up half of the Democratic Party at that time)
I personally think JFK was a very toxic and reckless man who lead a very troubled personal life, broke a slew of Federal Laws to keep his personal scandals out of the headlines and was probably as deserving of Impeaxhment as Nixon for it.
The most overrated President in American history whole only accomplishment is that he didn't blow up the World.

Have to laugh at the”Quarantine.” The politicians felt “blockade” was too debatable. But on the ticker screen in the city it says “blockade”. Then like nowadays the politicians think people are dumb. The more things change the more they stay the same. “People going about their business as if nothing was going on” is another similarity between then and now. The biggest change today is the technology in bomb making. This ain’t Hiroshima baby.

Millions of lives and years of war stopped because of those missiles. People fail to read history, wars and politics. We would have had another four years of war and millions dead on both sides. The US had already projected the casualty figures and were about to build more hospitals on the islands for casualties. A cruel thing, the bombs; crueler still was more war, millions more dead. Millions more. That cannot be stressed enough. People who are so far removed from witnessing war are not good judges of past history. A few documentaries and wiki searches do not make anyone knowledgeable enough.
