Hi I am electrician, can electrician do aircraft electrician work?
I graduated in 2017 but couldn’t pass my my written exams studied prepware scored 100s but wasn’t the same questions on the exam that I studied for so I gave up switched careers. I have a passion for aviation but what’s the point if u can’t get through the requirements.
Unfortunately, many schools will try to just teach the test. Mostly because many A&P instructors like the lab exercises and really don't do do classroom work well. Just teaching the test will not allow the student to learn the foundations of the subject. Lab work teaches the how to do something, but classroom teaches why you need to do something.
Man, your comment is scaring me. I’m in school currently and it moves quick and I feel like I’ll have a hard time on all the tests…I struggle enough on the block tests we do.

Would being an Airmen with aircraft maintenance experience with the A-10C since 2015 have any boost to my chances of being a successful A&P tech? I maintain the weapons systems, and I don't know how else to translate that into the civilian job sector other than "I can turn a wrench, execute written and verbal instructions, read wiring diagrams, and troubleshoot". Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hello Brandon; For you, the best thing to do is decide if you want to be an A&P mechanic or Avionics Technician and then plan your path accordingly. your military experience is very valuable for those soft skills employers need such as those you mentioned already. Now as of 22 September I have no idea how the new mechanic schools will function. The FAA has given away oversite and certification of FAR 147 schools. However, they have not changed the testing standards. I suspect that without FAA oversite, these schools will be pressured to get as much money from students as possible and will be forced to teach the test. The unintended consequence will mean that the value of the certificate will be gone. This will switch the burden of the training that will be done by the employers. I wish I could be more helpful, but the FAA has not made any announcements and changed the rule without acknowledging the negative comments during the NPRM. I would be looking for employers that are willing to provide an apprenticeship program. Good Luck
