    toad in the hole - needs mashed potatoes, gravy and some green veg ... also about 10 minutes more cooking!

    • @mbak7801
      @mbak7801 2 месяца назад

      NO MASHED POTATO! The batter is a carb. No other carbs are needed at all. Green veg is fine. Toad in the hole is incredibly greasy and therefore filling. Having mash with it is like my friend who would eat five potato servings in a single meal. Mash, hash browns, chips, croquettes, and then a potato pancake but would not accept that was an unhealthy diet but claimed it was his 5 a day.

    • @VampireJack10
      @VampireJack10 2 месяца назад +5

      @@mbak7801 You can have more than one carb in a meal - your body runs on carbs.
      Toad in the Hole should ALWAYS be served with mash spuds and gravy. Preferably with a green vegetable on the side.

    Love you guys, but you're killing me with the scones!!! Use stick butter, very chilled and cut into cubes, like the recipe said. You can't use that fake spreadable tub stuff. Then you squish/rub the flour into the butter until it looks like coarse breadcrumbs.....keep it cold, if it starts to get sticky and not like crumbs, put it back in the fridge. Then add liquid and dont overmix!!! It will make them tough. What you made is cake batter, and cake style cookies. I'm glad you enjoyed your creation but please, for the love of all things British, don't tell your colleagues these are scones! We will know and die a little inside 😂❤

      Lard! Tell them how to do it then! Grab a cup! If you need to make more this cup will be your marker! Crack your eggs into it! I do four for a twelve muffin pan.. make a note exactly where your eggs sat in the cup and fill it to that line with milk and then the flour with a good heap of salt.
      Put a scrape of lard in your tins and pop them in the oven. Turn your oven on to the highest setting! Soon as the cooker light goes out, take your tray out and fill it with the batter 1-3 way. Turn the oven down to 200c for 25 mins, that will look as though they are burning but trust the lard!

    The thing with toad in the hole is that you put enough oil in the panand then get that super hot in the oven and then when you are ready to pour the batter in, don't hang about too long. As you pour it it will sizzle then put straight back in the oven before there is too much of a drop in temperature. My successful toad in the hole have batter that has risen right up above the sides of the pan and is golden brown in colour. Personally I always serve mine with gravy and garden peas and mashed potatoes. When I was younger my mum would do a Sunday roast for the family and she would do yorkshire pudding in a tray like that and it would be crispy at the sides but have a doughy base which was my favourite bit, yummy. Miss you mum xx

    Don’t use an electric mixer for British scones, you can overwork the dough and it makes scones a little tough and they don’t rise and look like biscuits. Use a bowl and a wooden spoon that’s perfect for scones, don’t roll flat use the roller to gently bring the dough to at least an inch high then cut don’t overwork the dough and they will come out light and fluffy that’s the secret.

    Generally clotted cream is UK norm with jam but I know you might not be able to get it. Sorry if I confused you. If you like more flavour I put grain mustard lightly (or how strong you like it) over the sausages once cooked and cooled abit, and I caramelise thin sliced onion in butter and cover the base of pan, put sausages on top and gently pour batter AROUND sausages until 2 thirds covered. I cook my sausages in oven in oil ( use this oil to cook pudding) . When I was a kid , I'm 61, my mom would bake a plain Yorkshire pudding and we would put just jam on a square of it as our pudding. Cheap and cheerful when you have a large family lol ❤ hope this helps! 🎉 x

    I love you pronounce Scones correctly. The Oil Killed it the Toad in the Hole. But it came out ok. You can do the same with Chips (Fries) or Veg etc. Beans on Toast, you need to butter the Toast and you can add Cheese. (Beanz, Beanz are good for the heart, the more you eat the more you fart). 1st Pancake is a throw away if you don't heat the pan enough, Just tip the Mix in and fill the pan lol Also no Butter in the Pan. Hot, extremely hot oil. Not enough flour if you taste the egg, same on the yorkshire. Crispy is not enough mix. NOOOOO! Criminal, Cut the Scones on the side, Then put But on and then Jam. And we have Tea and Scones. Do a Google Search for Devonshire or Cornwall Scone.

    Well done for having a go at a Yorkshire standard. For a really good Toad in the hole. You need to cook your favourite sausages in the oven with a small amount of oil. The batter then needs to go into a hot ‘pan’. It should sizzle when you pour in the batter. That will give you a lovely light and crispy batter. Your pudding should be crispy in the outside and soft inside. I’ve never had corn bread.

    The spitting and popping from sausages is where we got the name bangers from (I.e. bangers and mash), mainly during rationing in WWII when sausages had extra water added to them to reduce cost which meant they would really go BANG when popping.
    Yeah, mistake with the oil was adding it to the mix, the oil should be smoking slightly when adding the batter, we use really herby sausages in our toad in the hole, so if yours don't have a lot of herbs then I'd suggest adding a bit of sage either to the batter or sprinkling on top after cooking. I would say it should really be eaten with onion gravy as that adds a lot of flavour to it as well.
    This really isn't so bad as a first attempt especially when the recipe wasn't clear on when the oil was to be used. I do hope you give the toad in the hole another try with gravy and without the oil in the batter!
    Another simple dish is bangers and mash, or you could do shepherd's/cottage pie depending on if you can get lamb mince or not as I hear lamb isn't very common in the US. Technically not a British dish but spaghetti bolognese is very popular here as well. We usually use jarred sauce, but I'd like to see you guys make it from scratch if you don't get it over there, otherwise the preferred brand for the bolognese sauce in British 'Spag bol' is Dolmio.

    Try the pudding with custard which is on some brands of packaging is sometimes depicted on the front to show what to have with it but doesn't mean it automatically comes with it you'll need to buy and make the custard separately

    When I made chocolate scones I cut mine in half and add cherry jam; the combo with whipped cream are so good.
    With the beans on toast we add cheese to the top of ours; so good. No we never pick it up and eat it 🤣 we use a folk and knife.
    A curry (depending on which one you go for, so many), is basically either chicken and veg, or lentils or just veg cooked in sauce over rice.

    When it comes to beans on toast, some prefer to turn it into more of a meal.
    First with the toast, most butter it, then with the beans, after pouring on the toast, maybe add salt & or a bit of vinegar. There is also the option of foregoing the vinegar, & adding cheese & melting it on the baked beans or toast. Most would add a few gherkins on the side & also put some shredded ham on the top of the finished product. It's still simple, but quick & easy to make, a comfort food.
    As a bonus, something to spice up the baked beans a bit for those less keen on them, add some curry powder to them before cooking, most cook the beans slowly on the hob with this option. Id sooner make these sort of baked beans with a full english dish though.

    Hi guys, you will get a more accurate amount of ingredients if you use scales and a measuring jug when baking as cups vary in measurement

  • @Dethmack
    @Dethmack 3 месяца назад

    Surely it would of been easier to get some weighing scales that can do milk/water/weight measures in the proper measurement sizes??
    With that Yorkshire pudding - put the oil in the dish until it is smoking and pour the batter in, the oil starts to cook the batter before it goes in the over. One thing - DO NOT open the oven door until it is cooked, opening the door makes the pudding mix drop so it turns out flat like it turned out.

    If you ever decide to make cheese scones (the best kind in my opinion) then always use a strong cheese, like a mature cheddar and use more than the recipe calls for. Also the mustard powder is essential. I've yet to find a substitute that works as well. It doesn't add a big flavour. Some people don't even taste it, but cheese scones don't taste as good without it.

    In cooking approximate amounts is perfectly fine in baking you need to be much more accurate otherwise you will get an inconsistent bake. This batch may be good or bad....next time they may be excellent or awful.
    Also (for scones especially) it's important not to work the dough too much as that will make your scones texture harder as opposed to a light/flaky textured scone.
    The dough for a scone should be quite a dry dough you want enough liquid to bring it all together and then you should put it back in the fridge for 30-60 mins to cool and to be very honest the only way to get the perfect scone is to make them by hand so you feel how dry/wet the dough is.
    Baking is real science cooking is a talent.
