I missed MaoMao and Jinshi so much, Hell even the side characters like the Fraud medic chilling with MaoMao, her friend with Typhon's voice or Jinshi's right hand man.
I love the opening song to be honest and the first episode of season 2 was awesome. The singer of the ending song is Dai Hirai. Never heard of him before. We are off to a good start with episode 25 and I'm looking forward where this season will take us. 🙂
I couldn't wait for this episode, I was so excited for this series to return! I love the opening so much!!! I am a light novel reader (Btw today LN vol 13 of Apothecary Diaries is released, and I can't wait to binge read it) so I was worried that the opening might spoil some things for anime onlys, but it didn't, as you said. It does have some hints of future events but nothing really spoilery. I adore the Op so much, the visuals are incredibly cool and beautiful
So bit of word play/pun on the naming, the main character's name xiao-mao / mao-mao means little cat / cat. the cat's name mao-mao translates to fluffy. different names, but same pronounciation, with slight different tone in Chinese.
I appreciate the paranoia going on in your head, with how the seemingly inconsequential stuff in S1 that tied together for a much greater conspiracy... and you look at a cat and you're asking "does the cat mean nothing or is it a harbinger for the next big plot twist?" Well, I guess you'll just have to keep watching to find out the future adventures of Princess Lingli and her new pet cat Maomao... as well as the adventures of Jinshi and his "pet cat" Maomao. The only thing I'll say - that unknown servant girl chasing the cat is one of my favorite characters in the entirety of the series.
The paranoia is strong. Last season we had one of the concubines with food allergies. What if someone else important is allergic to cats, and the cat was released there to make them sick... xD
Cats are weaponized cuteness. That's why I have 3 of them. Apothecary Diaries and Frieren are my favorite anime from last season. I was very impressed with the first episode of Apothecary Diaries season2. I consider it to be a "Historical fiction slice of Life" anime. Thanks for the review.
Fantastic return! I love how it just shows us the usual life as per usual from Maomao making stuff, to jinshi being jinshi, Maomao talking about poison and heck she didn’t even have a cat moment and yet she gets compared to a cat again. Dead on. I think my little favorite part was the books, that was just funny 😂 Also, seems we have a few new faces already. It’ll be interesting to see what happens.
The Apothecary Diaries returned in a sweet and funny way 🥹😂 Jinshi sniffing that kitten and Mao Mao reaction were priceless comedy 🤣 Moreover, the cat got the same name as her 😂 I really liked the Linlin walk part, it was very cute! With the Caravane arriving, I think those 2 ladies inside will surely bring some changements to our MC' and the palace' daily life 👀
As a guy who was raised by Grandma's cats... yes, kids need cats. Speaking of 'show, don't tell', the 'cat' theme of the episode is emphasized in some very subtle and comedic manners, with first the "explicit" part being: Maomao (human) hissing to Gaoshun and the quack doctor when protecting the stash of "cultural books" she got from home. Then we get the encounter between Maomao (human) and Maomao (cat), with the cat making the exact same expression her human counterpart did a few scenes before (that iconic frown). Then is the catching the cat, with Maomao (human) jumping to catch Maomao (cat). Finally, we get the "recap/comparison" made by dear Jinshi of his "cats", with that masterful ending. Great episode, and great introduction to a character I like a lot (not the cat, but it's a spoiler at least until the next episode). Xiaolan being praised for her efforts to read and write is cute. Princess Lingli is also a bundle of cuteness. Maomao (human) teaching both about plants is also cute, especially Honniang (the head lady of the concubine and Maomao's senior at the Jade Pavilion) arguing with Gyokuyou about Maomao teaching the Princess "weird things". We'll support your videos, Brandon. 'Cause there's no way in hell I want to miss your reactions to the next episodes...😏
There's some oddities of Crunchy on this one, not sure why. I had to watch the last episode of the previous season and then it transitioned into the new episode, all the while it never showed up in the show list. I think it's likely a temporary transitional thing in their app system, but it is certainly pesky. Have had odd issues with how the app will or won't update itself with the new shows, but the episode does exist at least.

As a cat lover, Jinshi SNIFFING on that kitten felt so relatable 🤣🤣🤣😂😺💗 He was reminded that Maomao is a cat in human vessel 😂😂
The season starts slowly. Little recap of every important character and Jinshi joins the feline side of the force.
At that moment, Jinshi achieved enlightenment. Truly one of the cat lover of all time.
Thanks for picking up season 2. I love the casual way season 2 begins. No fanfare just business as usual.

It says 25 episodes, but it only shows 24 and doesn't let me go to season 2.
