Brian Blessed is one of the four election candidates for Chancellorship of the University of Cambridge, a position that hasn't been contested for over 160 years.
This is the complete and unabridged speech delivered to the Cambridge Union Society on Monday 10th October, complete with a question-and-answer session with the audience.
Known for his thunderous voice, ebullient personality and imposing stature, Brian Blessed is one of Britain's most highly regarded actors. Although generally cast in loud comedic and pantomime roles, such as Richard IV in Blackadder, Brian is a noted Shakespearean actor, and won the New York Critics Award for his portrayal of Caesar Augustus in the BBC series I Claudius.
I saw this series for the first time in 1970s... in total I have seen it 32 times. I purchased the DVDs then Blue Ray.. now I have it on remastered MP4.. it's great. My two girls love it.
I've watched some of the movies Brain Blessed played a role on. To me, he has that brave, bold and a creative zeal and zest for life. His voice bring the scenes to life. Some of us Americans love Brain Blessed. What a great actor with a bold voice.
His life in general is just a great story all together, would love to go visit him on the farm and feed his ducks while having a chat with the man and sharing some tales over a tipple. Some lucky people in that room
I love this man. So full of life and vigour.
I second that.
I have nothing to do with Cambridge or Brian Blessed but from looking at this how did they give the job to someone else ? such a strong voice with such inspiring words , but can still have a laugh. Thats whats needed everywhere today.
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MAN......I love honesty
"I promise I won't swear again... like fuck" haha love this man.
You are not the only one.
What a wonderful, inspirational man Brian Blessed is. What a love of life. Yes a bit of an eccentric. I have to say I agree with Henry Willis - what a bland choice of Lord Sainsbury. Brian would have made a WONDERFUL Chancellor.
Brian Blessed was awesome, God rest his soul.
He's still alive!😁
His Flash Gordon battle cry almost destroyed my computer's audio.
😂😂😂 HAWKMEN, DIVE! I set that as my wake up alarm. So his voice wakes me up.
I have it as one of my ringtones. Naturally It startled me the first time it went off, but it was well worth it
I have to imagine the original version of Beowulf before it was written down had to have been delivered like this.
Always an man like an bear... Full of juice and good humors... Loved him In black adder
It’s not Gordon for me, but “Quinctilius Varus WHERE ARE MY EAGLES?!!!!”
I can concur on the energy one feels in Cambridge, and Oxford. It is the same one feels in the City of London, in Central, HK, in Raffles Square of Singapore or Manhattan. It is precious.
Amazing character....mad as a box of frogs though
Fuck me, he's great.
Brian Blessed is too English theatre what James Earl Jones is to American Entertainment, an unmistakable voice, delivered by an unimaginable talent.
I wish this was 2 hours long!
An amazing character
Why aren't there at least 17.000 audiobooks spoken by him? Come on Brian, get cracking!
Just researched who did get the chancellorie - Lord Sainsbury - god sake Cambridge, what a bland choice
TOP GUY
Yes,I agree!he has a great love of life!Brian blessed!from:betsye j.lee
GORDON'S ALIIIVE?
Interesting that he chose Derrick Jacobi's lines from Henrey the Fifth movie. Strange. He played Exeter in that film. On second thought delivering Exeters lines would be kind of dull unless you are familiar with that play. Brian was awesome as a presence of subtle power and loyalty in that movie with Branagh.
He is so British!
He is though!
he's at Crawley in March i think

Gordon's alivèeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeè
Sounds about right doesnt it
A travesty that the position was filled by anyone else, let alone a man who has never done a days work in their entitled life.
@snookervilleify I have just finished watching the whole thing, you obviously did n't !!
F vgudx
What does this mean
No -.-
Cambridge dodged a bullet there.
Hardly a STAR when he finds it so hard to be himself. Nice man but, nowt between his lugs, I suggest.
I can recite Henry V with same accuracy he can, he probably has more between his ears than you do............ I would also disagree with you about him not being a star.. he is instantly recognisable..
And you've attempted Everest three times and walked to the North Pole and had a successful acting career. Why the bitterness and negativity. You're obviously unhappy with life, Brian isn't.
Everest just the once and failed.
However, I withdraw my comment above and agree much too harsh.
How you can watch this and suspect he is unintelligent is beyond me.
