Just went to this show a few days ago. So fun.
He wrote this song from his dad's perspective about him.
Holy shit, now it all makes sense. :)
Some songs are difficult to listen to years later because the nostalgia is too much. This takes me back to being 16 years old. I’m now 32. To my fellow millennial listeners, what happened? Like where did all the years go? How are we in our 30s!?
Time indeed turned fragile :')
20s were great and agonizing, exhilarating and depressing. 30s are better because I've learned a lot. Hope the best for you and yours.
I just turned 54 a few days ago. It all goes by so fast, man. Enjoy it & take big bites out of life..
Happy 33rd birthday dude. I'm 41 atm.. 😢
I'm 32, still 16/17 mentally tbh
I genuinely cried at the end of that song
Wow, just an amazing letter, yes, letter, cause this is like a letter he wrote from his dad perspective, wow
I love this song - it never fails to make me emotional..
Tiny hands, recycled cans, the metal bands I could not stand..
The time you cried and threw your crayons across the floor...
These are the things I think about when I'm alone without you
I wonder of your whereabouts and hope like hell you're happy where you are.
You used to say that you're just fine,
But I still wonder all the time.
Hockey games, medical claims, police reports, terrible grades,
J, I'm so proud of all the things that you have done.
These are the things I think about when I'm alone without you
I wonder of your whereabouts and hope like hell you're happy where you are.
I'm alright, I'm alright.
I can see through everything you say, and all the lessons I never learned..
You used to say that you're just fine,
But I still wonder all the time.
Do you still believe in the stories told
To you by my friends and I when you were four years old?
How it got so cold that words just froze
We had to wait 'til summer to find out what was said
One of the best times that we had.
I know I say that I'm just fine,
But I hope you wonder from time to time.
I was nervous from the start that our muscles might tear us apart
(Are muscles tearing us apart?)
From the words that carve our lives to the words that take us by surprise
(I was never taken by surprise.)
From the sounds that disappear to the changes we begin to fear
(I can hear you clearly.)
One day I'll fail to breathe and all you'll have are memories
(All we are are memories.)
Dear Jesus,
Thank you for providing the well formatted lyrics to this lovely song.
-Cheeseburgers
forever one of my favorite songs of all time, the soundtrack to so many memories. MCS will never die.
RIP Dad.
Hands down the best song from this album!! (In my opinion)
i prefer invisible monsters, but this is a close 2nd
Hold me down?
Attractive today exists, but this song is fucking amazing lol.
Everything is Alright is my favourite but this song is also pretty good
thank you thank you thank you! this was one of the first albums I bought with my own cash & I thought about these guys yesterday, thanks again for posting their full album. Your record company rules!!
such an underrated band. I may be a newer generation but i know good music when i see it.
You don't see music
K Lyden i can see the album cover
+Nick Arens ayy thanks for siding with me
The 2000s was a golden age for this genre
There is never a bad time to listen to Motion City. I've been a fan since the first album and now MCS is one of my daughter's favorites as well. Your music never fails to boost my mood and energy level. Thank you for everything.
35 years old..I used to love rocking this song on my drum set at my parents house In the early college days..the ending is so fun to play and quite a workout!
Drummer could play... didnt' need click tracks so he was able to move around... use differentiating notes, etc.
Can't do that anymore because everyone plays along to TICK TICK TICK TICK and you just can't find the groove that way.
This is actually a difficult song to play. Harder than most BLINK 182 from the same era.
I loved this album when I was in middle school this song hits different now that I'm grown 😢
So glad these two songs are paired together here on RUclips
Listening to this song. Trying to make out the lyrics after almost 20 years. I have a lot going for me for my age. ❤️ A house, a family of 3…life is short.
But it's one heck of a ride worth seeing through.
Aside from "Everything Is Alright" from this album, this song is my ABSOLUTE favorite from this album because it reminds me of my time back in 2006 to where I was playing with my Xbox and Nintendo Gamecube, watching Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon back and forth, watching the Harry Potter films, living in my new neighboring complex at the time, and listening to songs like this such as "Move Along" by All-American Rejects.❤😄☺😀
My gramps died just a few weeks ago. My dad has fought cancer for about three years now as well. We each shared the same name and are very close. This listen gets harder every day, but it’s such a beautiful song and I love it more as time marches on. It’s an odd feeling, getting older.
Such great melodies in this one. It's got to be one of my favourites
one day I'll fail to breathe and all you'll have are memories
(All we are are memories.)
perfect timing right now , this aged very well
I’m in the middle of grieving the loss of my grandmother and this song made me burst out in tears
Being 15 and listening to this never made much sense and i just loved the song and sang along, fast forward being 31 and listening to this and understanding the lyrics now that my father is gone. Gut wrenching! But still a literal masterpiece ✨
This is their best song. No contest
nice song
favorite song
Motion City Soundtrack is arguably more sonically dense than Fall Out Boy and should've made it much further.
They were better than all of their peers. What they weren't were a bunch of dudes willing to compromise. They weren't willing to turn into teenage girl touchers like all the rest of the CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIAN bands they were peers with during those early 00's Warped Tour days.
Fall Out Boy.... they were totally game for being sickos.
Loving both bands, density/complexity typically don't make for great mainstream success in the first place.
J I’m so proud of all the things that you have done
Ahh my first ever MCS song so nostalgic!!!!
best one
really good song, i liked it! :D
I was nervous from the start, that our muscles might tear us apart.
From the words that carve our lives, to the words that take us by suprise.

I never noticed the heavy getupkids influence before. I loved red letter day and I love this song
2:25 This tune started from this time actually
1:08
Why do people today like listening to pop stars like Justin Bieber or Ariana Grande who don’t even write their own songs and use autotune most of the time when recording instead of bands like these with actual talent and write their own songs about things more important than sex and drugs? What happened to this world!?
