I love the bare basics of cooking and canning.
When my sister had her baby, I canned a bunch of to-go meals for her since she was a first-time mom and still working full time. I made 3 1-pint cases of different beef and chicken soups and stews. She loved them and came in real handy since the poor little guy had collic.

Hi there, I like your vids and I’m discovering a lot about mills/grains. I’m sorry that you don’t like the Kitchenaid mixer and you don’t recommend it for breads. I’m hv (3) KA mixers and one is an older heavy-duty K5SS that I wouldn’t trade for the world. I love all things metal vs. plastic and KA has a mixer that has a horsepower motor that could handle fresh grains. I hv reservations about the Bosch…the housing is plastic and the motor is 500 watts and not 800 watts like initially advertised. But, it’s a personal preference. However, keep making your informative vids and take care hun! ❤

I have the same kitchenaid I got it from a school cafeteria that was being remodeled and it’s amazing, however it is not the best for kneading 3 loaves of bread. Window pane test take twice as long and it requires two proofing when using it. I took Felicia’s advice and got the Bosch which allows perfect window pane and straight to rising in the pan so that’s a game changer for me. I utilize the grind attachment and pasta roller on my kitchenaid for grinding my corn for cornmeal and it’s fabulous, but for bread not as proficient.

@@anncrabtree3935 I agree that it might can’t handle multiple loaves of bread, but KA does hv models that will. She doesn’t recommend buying a KA mixer…it’s a great brand and product that STILL has a metal housing. I’m glad you’re enjoying your BOSCH…for me a KA with a heavier motor or the Ankarsrum would be my choice for making multiple loaves of bread. Hv a great day! ❤

The porch look fabulous that your hubs built, that will come in handy. You can use part of that for an outdoor kitchen and do your canning there.
I’m exhausted just watching all that you accomplished and take care of the family needs too…. 🫣😱👀 You look cool as a cucumber salad around all that baking… And the stress of filmmaking too… I’d be a drenched mess.
I do like these general cooking videos, I’m gonna have to get a flaker. I’m getting the 9 grain flakes from Azure but with all the different grains I have, why not flake some myself. This way I can flake as I need them.
That stock looks awesome but have you tried to can the chicken bones separately from canning the raw chicken? The canner turns them into a creamy consistency that is outstanding. And healthy too, full of goodness.
Looks like you have an uneventful cooking session and I bet the turkey was wonderful.

Much respect for your ambition. Hope your family appreciates you, sure they do. I am going to try the rolls.
Started canning a little now that I am retired . Started with an 8 point buck I was blessed with last November. Also had a huge sale on chicken breast and canned a bunch of that.
The chicken seems a bit dry though, any suggestions?
A canning video now and then would be good . Any main course grain dishes too..
    See ya next week

    • @GrainsandGrit
      @GrainsandGrit  3 месяца назад

Yes my family especially appreciates all the food lol Thank you! As far as chicken breast, I have only canned chicken breasts that we have raised. I find they are just so moist and tender, I've never had a problem with them being dried. I would think the quality of a chicken may be a factor. I also can them for 1 hour and 30 minutes for quarts after it has come to pressure. But SCORE on the buck!!! That is wonderful! Canning deer makes it so tender.
Thanks for the idea about entire meals with grains! I will have to work on that for sure :-)

    • @JamesHarris-qm8lh

@@GrainsandGrit I bet it is the chicken quality. When I was a kid and we wanted a chicken dinner, Ma would send somebody out to catch a chicken. It was always good.
I remember Gramma finding eggs in one of the chickens and using them in the noodles.

My mom and I have been pressure canning dry beans for a while! It’s a favorite “fast food” to have on the shelf. Why do you pre cook your beans? We always just place our dried beans into the jars and top with water and pressure can them. They already get so tender I can’t imagine pre cooking.

Hey Felicia. This was a fun video. I got up early this morning to can my chicken stock and hung out with you while doing all the things this morning as well, lol.
I have a thing I do: all our meat birds are in the freezer, so most often, I don't have time to thaw that bird! I throw that baby in my biggest stock pot, cover with water, and in a couple hours, I've got my chicken meat cooked. I know it's not the most gelatinous broth, but it tastes great. sometimes I throw the bones back into the pot and simmer till the next morning, but lately I just don't have it in me, I guess. I've got chicken ready to go for when I make salad, enchiladas/chimichangas, or whatever. Sometimes I don't want to wait to thaw that bird! Lol. Anyway, I'm glad to hang with you in my kitchen this morning.
