This has got to be the best training video I have ever seen for any form. I wish we could find all of the forms in this slow motion with commentary format. Truly brilliant, thank you so much. My whole family greatly appreciates it!
I'm so happy to hear that you enjoyed the video. I hear that from a lot of people when I go to tournaments now. I never had any idea that so many people would watch. I need to redo it now that I've watched it and I see about a million things that I need to fix :)
Great video, thanks a lot! I've been out of class for years, and when I tried to go back, I was so far behind. Now I can at least practice, even if there aren't any schools near me.
Wow! Thank you! That is quite the compliment. I originally posted this video for my students and never realized how many other people in the ATA and martial arts would watch. Thanks!
I have been going through my forms for fitness since I've been out of ATA for so long. I was having trouble remembering CJ2 so I youtubed it and who pops up first but my old instructor who first taught me this form that I ended up winning 3rd at Worlds with as a yellow belt!!! Happy day! Miss the Bentley's! Have a blessed day today! I am gonna get back to my form now. ;)
Thank you Sir so much for posting this. I would like to commend you on your awesome technique. I have been viewing as many ATA Forms videos as I can to help me improve, and yours is now what I feel one of the best to strive towards. The fact that you re-chamber after your kicking techniques and look to the direction of your next moves is very much appreciated. Thank you Sir
Thank you for posting this. I am working on this form for my next testing (first week of the cycle) and with being a mom and full-time college student, I only get to class once a week. This is really helpful. I have written practice sheets from my school, but nothing beats the visualization and knowing which way to turn before I get to my forms classes! I would love to also see you doing this full speed.
This is such a helpful video! I am an ATA student who is in the middle of learning this form and I appreciate the detailed "show-and-tell" aspect of this video. Super impressive video, especially since you took it on your phone! Thanks again.
@ataLegacy ...(chamber from the ribs definitely looks better and is more consistent with what judges look for). Now the x-blocks, what can I say, I messed up :) good eye and thank you for catching that. x-block should go inside-up for sure! Thanks for the feedback, this was my first time posting a forms video on RUclips for my students.
Absolutely Amazing! I go to ATA too! I'm a Full Camo Belt :3 I have to memorize choong jung 2 for a tournament. This actually really helped me! Thanks so much! I've read the description and I know. I just wanted to know how it looked! THANKS!!!!!!
Thank you, thank you for this video! My sons, ages 8 and 11, are testing for their black belts soon. However, they argue about how the moves are supposed to go, so it's been really hard for me to help them at home since I don't know the form. I had my 8 year old watch your video and we worked on the first two segments this morning. The change was amazing! Is it possible to purchase your videos if my sons are not your students? This video is the most helpful thing we've done with the boys!
@neobefree2 Thank you thank you thank you! (for all the compliments) As for the ridge hand strikes, a few years ago I started teaching my color belts to reach behind them for their ridge hands. I noticed that it helped the kids (and some adults) learn to open their hips to add more rotation and change their weight distribution. When they become black belt or if they're heavy tournament goers, I have them chamber from the ribs...
@neobefree2 ..get all their body weight directly over their standing leg when/before they kick, so they aren't shifting across the axis of balance mid-kick. If you can throw a reverse hook kick without moving that front leg, its much more technical and will work better in sparring as you will move toward your opponent instead of away (in most cases). Upset punch should be mid section. All my mid-section strikes look high in the video because of the angle of the camera. Thanks for the post!
@neobefree2 ..cut my head off in the shot. But normally, I have no problem getting "enough air" (I like to jump!). Again, wanted to show my students that you need to re-chamber the keep, even if you aren't able to do so while in the air. On reverse hook kicks, you shouldn't take any extra steps, simply turn and kick. However, it is a lot easier to balance when learning this technique if you move your front leg under your body. One element of balance is "solid sole". I want my students to..
@neobefree2 Even more great questions! I will have to start by referring you back to the original text in the video description. The intent of this video was to help my students memorize the form quickly. I spent about 3 minutes filming the video and just a few more minutes editing (adding test and audio). I typically spend DAYS at a time filming these videos and then put them on a DVD for my students, but didn't have time this past cycle and therefor threw it on RUclips for them to use.
That is so awesome to hear! (sorry I don't look at the comments on here too often) I don't make DVDs professional, although I wish I could. In fact, all of my videos (including this one) are just recorded from my iPhone. I could most certainly put this form on DVD and would be happy to send you a breakdown of other forms if you'd like. Feel free to email me at bentley@atalegacy.c om Also, if your boys are getting close to black belt, I would highly recommend ATA's black belt DVDs. THANKS!
@neobefree2 That being said, I promise you, I see more mistakes than you can imagine :) I was "stiff" for most of the video, trying to perform the technique slow and exaggerate certain features. If your instructor is a 7th degree, you should most certainly to whatever they tell you and NOT what you see on my video (they've been doing this much longer than myself). I can get plenty of air on my jump round kicks, but since I was filming by myself, I wasn't sure how much space I'd have to not..

This is my next form after my test on Oct. 16 :D. the only thing i'm afraid to mess up is the jump change. erg...
