Draft Wright, send him to the OHL for the next season and play Samuel M at least 55 games next year. 2023/2024 top 5 picks are what is needed to build a Cup contender. Being a "playoff" contender for nearly 30 years with no top 10 scorer since 1986 is OLD. As mediocre as my Dallas Cowboys have been. Great analysis of Slafkovsky "a helluva gamble ."

@@jpmoffet9598 I’d give him 9 games in the nhl if he’s up to the task then decide. Meaning his line isn’t getting scored on much. And he produces some offence and holds his own taking faceoffs. He’s a rookie so maybe he takes less of them.
Too bad he isn’t allowed to go to the AHL.
I’d be less likely to want to send him down if he hadn’t missed a year of hockey. And he definitely should be traded if we agree to send him down.

Hughes will select Slafkosky. The kid is raw but has an enormous upside. My only concern is his skating. Wright is not spectacular but is very good at everything. He's an extremely smart player with a spectacular shot. He's a leader that rarely makes a mistakes. Wright makes the game so simple and he does it with precision. Who ever the Habs do select, the Team will be getting a dandy. It's never a guarantee...I saw Greg Joly play before he was drafted and would have bet all I had on him starring in the Bigs but it never happened.

Slafkovsky gets questioned on his skating because he’s big, and big guys don’t seem that fast.
      But watch him for real.
Not only does he not have any issues with his skating…
He’s actually a better skater (faster) than Shane Wright.

Slafkovsky isn't a play driver, Wright plays like Patrice Bergeron, all I need to hear to know that this guy has no clue and just repeats shit he's read everywhere. You know who says that Shane Wright plays like Patrice Bergeron? Shane Wright blowing his own horn, that's who, because he surely doesn't play like Bergeron. But then all journalists see the same clip and all go around repeating that Shane Wright is Patrice Bergeron. And Slafkovsky isn't just a play driver, he's a game driver. He carried the Slovak team on his shoulders at 17, both at the OG and WC. Kid was playing 20-25 minutes a game, was at the point on the PP, played on the PK, in clutch moment.

If you use the argument that Slafkovsky played so well in the Olympics and that he's the worthy #1 pick on those statistics alone, then you have to take a look at Joel Armia's performance. He was fantastic at the Olympics. He won a gold medal and yet he is not a dominant or consistent player with the Canadiens. How well has he played in the N.H.L for a FULL season with the Canadiens?

joel armia is nowhere near slafkovsky in terms of puck handling, shooting and skating, not a good comparison. How about Shane and nolan Patrick? or shane and drouin, all over 100 points, shane was shy from 100, yet they all ended busts or average players?? or brady tkachuk who had 8 goals 30 ish points pre draft and ended up one of the better player of that draft? could make these comparisons all day

Slaf has already proved he can play with men (liiga) and with NHL players (olympics - against barzal Anderson etc...) Wright has none of that experience yet, what makes you think he will translate that to the NHL? he was nonexistent for his team this year, lacks intensity and speed unlike slaf and back checks like his in beer league. is that the player you want coming playoff time?

I didn't say that Wright's abilities will translate in the N.H.L.... you just assumed I did and put words in my mouth.
Reread my initial post before assuming.
The point I was making was that if you considered Joel Armia's performance in the Olympics stellar, Joel Armia with N.H.L. experience all day... Joel Armia who played better in the Olympics and consistently underachieves with the Canadiens, then you can't just say that Slafkovsky is a sure #1 because he was dominant in the Olympics.
International play with adults is not the same as the grueling N.H.L. game.

When Hughes said they're drafting for ceiling it's concerning that Wright hasn't progressed as much. They say Wright is the next Bergeron; Suzuki is said to be the next Bergeron as well. • @galkanftw

I put some serious thought and research into the pick and imo it was Wright not Slav.Wright is more of a complete player and a much needed center.Perhaps Wright is more realistically a second line center imo he will be better than Suzuki because he will be a more complete player with some grit and toughness. It is not all about size but how you play and can you protect the puck and win battles on the boards and Wright imo would be their best center and imo easily.
Slav has perhaps more upside being a big strong winger but he NEEDS a center and MTL does not have one good enough to make Slav an elite winger.

What I see happening to Slav is sort of what happened to Leclair who never got to shine as a great player until he got out of MTL and joined the Flyers.Slav will only be at best a 30=33 goal scorer in Mtl and that is as a first line PP player.Wright imo would be more like a 25-29 goal scorer but close to 75 points.Wright imo would have been a MUCH better center for Cole and perhaps Anderson.I seriously don't know what to do with Suzuki because he is NOT a first line center and like i said Wright would have been a better second line center.I would have traded Suzuki rather than over pay him like the habs did.
The real oddity is if they get lucky and get Bedard can he be a first line center or he is better as a winger meaning the habs still won't have a first line center.

Centres should always be a play driver, not right wingers. All players..play better with better players around them. Give the kid a chance. Wright wouldve never stayed a hab for his career.. he would bounced to leafs as soon as he had a chance.
Also why did he drop to 4th?

Even in the WC, the players that went had 82 games in them so the intensity is not going to be the same and lots more great players never went. So even the WC won't give you an accurate scouting on him. Huge gamble if We take him first overall.

i think that montreal has enough small players and that's why i suspect canadiens will pick wright rather than cooley. suzuki, caulfield are the people i think about as being on the small side, why would you want to put more small players in that mix. i think that size is one of the reasons that montreal got beat by tampa bay in the stanley cup final.

all i know is that i'm glad that i'm not in gorton and hughes shoes. we pick who we want and that's that, but these guys have their butts hanging out and if they're wrong it's their reputation that's going to suffer. if it was next year's pick it wouldn't be so bad because there is a stand out player in the draft. but this draft doesn't have a real stand out player and they make a mistake that pedestal they're on will get knocked over real quick, especially in montreal.

Yet another proof that Bettman controls the league, as Wright is probably the only one with "franchise player" potential and of course, he went to the Kraken which is what the LEAGUE needed most, as an entertainement product. You know those trades and picks that make you think "how could this team's management be dumb enough to do this ?", well they arent dumb they just dont have as much decisional power as you'd think. Thats my 2 cents.

The guy with the highest potential offensive output is Logan Cooley. Just watching him play with the puck he actually reminds me of Cale Makar (which I know is an odd comparison)… but his skates are always moving, high pace, chases players down, and has sick hands and playmaking as well as finishing.
Slafkovsky IF he puts it all together and continues to improve, can be a 25-35 goal scoring power forward winger, 60-70 point guy.
Shane Wright just needs a kick in the ass, the type of player he wants to be vs how it looks is really different. His intensity level has to go up to how he played in the U18.
He wants to be a Bergeron but looks like Christian Dvorak out there lol

Why he didn't performed against men in Liiga ? Some said that he didn't have a lot of ice time...well if he was THE best 18 years old in the World, even at 10-12 min/game, the best find a way to produce!!! He didn't find a way to face adversity in Liiga!
