The Cinque Terre is a rugged portion of coast on the Italian Riviera. It is in the region Liguria, in the northwest of Italy, to the west of the city of La Spezia, and comprises five villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. The coastline, the five villages, and the surrounding hillsides are all part of the Cinque Terre National Park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Spent a couple days in Vernazza with my son and daughter in 2005. We rented a small boat and ran along all five towns. On our way back to Vernazza, a waterspout touched down a few hundred yards from our boat! What a memorable experience! I loved Italy!

Fantastic video by drone. You can watch and admire endlessly. The Cinque Terre are the most uncontaminated and fascinating natural area of Liguria and the Tyrrhenian coast. The Cinque Terre coast may appear inhospitable because it is rocky and steep, but it is also full of enchanting bays and beaches and marvelous panoramic paths to be discovered. For centuries these medieval seaside villages have been the subject of raids by Turkish pirates. They have always been reachable only by sea, then by train (1920) and by road (1950) and that is why they still preserve their long tradition intact today. It is the towns Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Monterosso and Vernazza suspended between sea and land that give life to the Cinque Terre. Lying with all their strength on cliffs overlooking the sea, these villages are joined together by a "Sentiero Verde Azzurro" path. The route is about 12 km long, the total difference in height is about 600 meters. To cover it entirely it takes over 5 hours of good walking. Between Vernazza and Monterosso al Mare this is the longest and most demanding stretch. There are currently some outages. The interesting thing is that it can be covered in parts and back by train! The trail is truly wonderful. It is the realm of wild scents as nature originally designed it between sea and mountains. I walked it several times in one direction and the other.

Just to be clear for those who may want to visit here. Cinque Terre is the equivalent to a "County" in the USA. It means Five Lands. Most of (not all) of the scenes are from a town called Vernazza. If you love food this town is full of amazing little restaurants.
