I can tell you- I have been Nikon shooter for 18 years and I have all the lenses and I have pretty much all the high-end “S” lenses and out of those lenses 135mm Plena has become my favorite lens, it stays on My Z8 pretty much all the time. The images that come out of Plena are truly unique.
Congrats! That's got to be fun to play with. I have the Sigma 135mm f1.8 in F mount. That's an amazing lens as well. I don't know if I can justify getting the Plena too.

Whilst the image quality has moved on considerably, you sound just like me talking about my Nikkor 105 f/2 DC - by far my favourite lens and, for me, a great walkabout lens that has always had me hankering for the 135 f/2 DC. Like you, I think portrait style is applicable to other aspects of photography, not just in terms of subject isolation but in the subtle rendering of portrait lenses, which I see you use in other forms. It sounds like there are other similarities to the 105 DC too as that’s an unforgiving lens that takes some commitment and intent to make the most of. The Plena and the huge progress in auto focus are why I’m thinking of swapping my D610 and F lenses for a Z6iii, if it will exist, and a Plena. You make an interesting point about the zoom completing a two lens system, as I’ve been toying with a 50 f/1.8 and an 85 f/1.8 as I’ve always preferred speed and primes. You’ve given me something to think about though, as well as mirroring my own thoughts on the Plena (based entirely on reviews and sample photos). Cheers!
Hi - I am a street photographer, I have Nikon Z6II camera with 24-70 f4 lens, I also have 50mm f1.8 z lens, which i usually use most of the time, I live in Montreal and most of the photos I shoot in the city, I am thinking to buy 135 f1.8 lens, do you think that this lens will be good for urban landscape photography? Thanks for the reply in advance.
Just got this lens brand new and it makes a noticeable noise when changing aperture near wide open and disappears around f4. Is this normal or did i get a bad copy? Never noticed my 50 or 85 1.2 making noise. Edit: i put 85 1.2 on and it does make noise, just not as loud as plena. I'm inside as it's pouring out, typically take lenses out for first run.
have 85 1.8S and 20 1.8S on my Z6 (killer travel, day to day combo) in a 5L PD sling bag. Then 700-200 2.8 S on my Z9 for sports..I'm picking this up as a baby 200 f/2 replacement not for 85 1.2 or 70-200 2.8...i consider it a 105 1.4G version for the Z mirrorless.
It just depends what you're going to use it for and what the rest of your kit looks like. If you like the 85mm look and feel the go with that. But the 135mm is able to get a totally different sense of compression versus an 85mm. You can't go wrong with either though!
I've used the 50mm 1.2 briefly and it's a fantastic lens. It would make a great walk-around lens. I was initially considering it before I bought the Plena, but ended up favoring the 135mm focal length instead
Agreed. I’ve had the Plena on my camera around 99% of the time since getting it. Does yours make a noise when you shoot the Z6 in silent mode? My copy is noisy in silent mode.
Do you hear the noise when changing aperture near wide open? I am and was nervous i had a bad copy. I put my 85 1.2 on and realized it makes some noise i never noticed before. I hope the plena is just louder versus us both getting bad copies 🙃
@@uhoh7541 not really on aperture change. But when the Z6ii is set to silent shutter, it makes a loud(er) noise. Almost sounds like a fake shutter noise, similar to the Z8. It’s not as loud as the regular shutter, but definitely loud enough for someone on the other side of the room to hear it. Makes silent shutter useless with the Z6ii. I don’t use silent shutter often.
@@MichaelSeneschal ok, sounds like we have separate issues unfortunately 😧 Have used silent mode on my Z9 plenty of times, but didn't even know it was an option on the Z6II. Good luck and let's hope neither of us have faulty gear.

You never used the 85 1.2 or the 50 1.2 huh? They are pretty comparable to this lense in quality. Lol. They should of had plena slapped on it Great video though
I've heard fantastic things about the 85mm 1.2 and 50mm 1.2. Got a chance to try the 50mm f1.2 and it's an amazing lens! Don't know if it fits my use cases though

It is amazing on the Z8. Stunningly fast eye AF. The perfect portrait lens.

Grab a star tracker and see how this puppy would do with Astro. Orion would be a good from with this lens.
