Whenever I hear Tim Minchin's Canvas Bag, I always think about the Axis of Awesome's 4 Chord Song, which references Canvas Bag at one point. (Or at least the live performance version that I've seen did? I don't remember if the official music video for the 4 Chord Song version does or not.) But so if you want to see a good comedic song from someone other than Tim Minchin or Bo Burnham, you could check that out (they're Aussie as well). Also, I'm so excited for your upcoming Bo Burnham reactions now that you've worked your way up to Inside. Inside is such an amazing special. So many fantastically funny and insightful songs.
The 4 chord with canvas bag is the Melbourne comedy festival performance, and if I’m not mistaken it was a late addition to it as Tim just performed it that’s why the crowd really laughed at that point ruclips.net/video/5pidokakU4I/видео.html

Many of us heard the Canvas Bag song the first time at the Just for laughs Gala 2006. Tim Minchin was the last comedian on that night and canvas bag was his closing song. He introduced it quite seriously and then it turned into a big shownumber with a choir, trumpet, fireworks and canvas bags falling from the ceiling. It was epic. And since it was the end of the show, that catchy melody stuck in peoples head and we were humming the tune for days. The Pope song is over a decade old by now and since he sang it first it always felt very current and relevant. 2012 he performed a version with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and that feels so over the top. I can only recommend you check that out. They played If the Pope owned a disco right after and that is great too.
Tim was performing in London last year, only an hour or so away from where I live and where my twin sister is currently living, so we went to watch the show. Of course, at the end, I went to the merch table and bought an official Tim Minchin canvas bag. One of my favourite pieces of official merch I ever bought.

as crude as the pope song is (intentionally, of course), the song is actually brilliant, which I think most people overlook because of how shocking it is

You gave me a great,if not totally irresponsible idea. The "Tim Minchin drinking game"Only one rule:drink when somebody else laughs. For those slow starting parties...I would be buzzed halfway through "Thank you God" 🤪🤘✌🤙
Tim is amazing to watch live. I fortunately got to see his most recent tour "Back" multiple times, both before and after lockdown, not just because it's a fantastic show but because there were significant differences in the set lists for the shows before and after the lockdown. One of the reasons why footage of his live shows is so limited is partly because he asks the audience not to film his performance and they respect him so much that they don't, therefore what makes it onto RUclips are clips from the official DVDs or clips he releases himself on his official channel. If you're in awe of his musical ability then I would recommend "Cheese". The clips on RUclips of this song are from a concert he did at the Royal Albert Hall with the Heritage Orchestra in London which is available to watch in it's entirety on DVD and to stream on Amazon Prime Video. It's quite epic in that it switches through a number of very different musical styles and at nearly 7 minutes it's quite a long song, however in his recent concert tour it is even longer as he stops and breaks into a monologue half way through. If you want to understand more of the in jokes then it's probably worth you watching "Rock and Roll Nerd" where he talks about his childhood. Like some of his songs that you have covered so far, "Three Minute Song", "Five Poofs and Two Pianos", and its follow up "A Song for Wossy" are all both insanely catchy and equally outrageous yet were all songs that were written specifically for his appearances on late night chat shows on BBC TV . Of course if you like the religious stuff then I can heartily recommend "The good Book" and "Ten Foot C*ck and a Few Hundred Virgins" "15 minutes" is an insane ear worm and finally, because Tim always ends his shows with something sentimental, if you want something to tug at your heart strings then there is nothing better than "Carry You", "The Absence of You" and what is now a criminally little known Christmas classic, "White Wine in the Sun"
I know you're loving Tim Minchin and Bo Burnham, so if you're interested in another somewhat similar musical comedian, you should check out "Sammy J and Randy". REM, Light a candle, Secrets, Soon you'll be dead, and The Economy are a handful of fantastic starters, though their Melbourne comedy festival pieces are also excellent. There's considerably less swearing, but it's just as much humour. As always, excellent stuff here!
Also, I ought to mention: The Axis of Awesome do some great songs but the main one to recommend would be their "4 chord song". They have a few renditions of it, and all of them are fantastic.
Bo Burnham has a song called f that says fuck probably more than this song, and also bad mouths the pope, but only in one part of it. It's from his what album from 2012
if you like tim minchin you have to watch the Tim Minchin and The Heritage Orchestra show he did having his songs backed by a big orchestra brings them to amazing heights its well worth a watch
Not entirely coincidental that this was before an interval at a show where he has bags for sale among the merch 😉 This is one of the older versions of the song. As with lots of his songs where he finds out/is told of things he’ll update them. Later versions have “what I used to call” instead of “on the floor” (outdated inappropriate term).
The funny thing is the best option most people can probably make are the reusable plastic bags, not the canvas ones. It is monstrously more resource intensive to produce canvas bags, to the point where it's almost certain a bag won't be used enough times to make it worth it, whereas reusable plastic bags are pretty likely to reach that point as long as you actually keep using them.
Plastic ones come from oil though, whereas canvas can be made from renewable resources. What it's made of isn't relevant though. The important thing is to take reusable bags to the supermarket, or store, or anywhere you're going to need something to carry things
Why do I get the impression Tim listened to Firework by Katy Perry one to many times to inspire Canvas Bag haha I guess pop music does get recycled so glad he knows how to reduce noise pollution with his talent.

Canvas bags are actually environmental nightmares. Cotton production uses huge amounts of fossil fuels, water, and fertilizers. You have to reuse them about 20,000 times to make them less damaging than plastic bags.
It might help to make the right side of the video the left and the left side of the video right. You can then add cuts in if you haven't stopped the song to talk enough. Just show a picture of a cat every 30 seconds if you haven't stopped it recently.
