    There's actually a shortcut to change the sequence length: when in Step Record mode, press Shift + turn Rate encoder

    how about you add 8 steps in your sequencer for 4-4 loop, add it to the END of your 40 step sequence (your 32 and 8 for metronome). step-record metronome in the last 8 slots of your sequencer as 1-4 notes, you will have 2 bars of metronome - then play real time and record, using metronome you programmed. Now, your sequence will alway start at step 1 (we recorded metronome in the last 8 slots). once you are done, simple go to sequencer settings, and make sequence 32 instead 40 steps.

      Nice solution. It will be quite challenging though to keep the correct timing throughout the sequence, since you would have to extrapolate the tempo with just _remembering_ the tempo from those 8 metronome beats. So I guess most probably you would end your phrase too early or too late. Unless you have perfect timing of course.

Happy to see I am not the only one! :D Personally, I find it easiest to run the metronome externally from my iPad (e.g. via AUM), synced with Microfreak. Good video here of what should be a very obvious answer - thank you. I think what is frustrating is how big of a miss this is for Arturia to not include a metronome button and allow for a pre-roll. This 'hack' will get tedious after a while... on the fence about the MicroFreak for a few reasons now, in particular the limited sequencer.

      Hello David, I think it might to do with different sync modes kind of mess up the tempo. You might need to check with Volca beats sync signal spec and within Arturia software, or Sync option inside Microfreak, choose the right sync signal format matching the Volcas. Let me know if that works.

      it's way more than a "bass " synth all of its parameters can be automated, it has polyphonic aftertouch, etc, it's an amazing synth, imagine only increasing the LFO or filter cutoff or pitch to only one note while you play the others normally, its such an expressive instrument, I have semi-modular stuff and VA synths, this is by far my favourite sound creation tool. that said though if you want a bass synth, this will do the job no problem.

    Has anyone figured out how to play unquantized? I like to play rhythmically for a natural feel and this sequencer makes everything sound very machine-like. Love so many of the patches but the sequencer may equate to a return. Bummer.

    • @justawatchin2
      @justawatchin2 4 года назад +2

      not a direct answer, but i've had success imposing a more fluid rhythm on the sequencer by tying the rate to another variable (like LFO, cyclic envelope, or key/arp, or even a combination of them) using the matrix.

    • @justawatchin2
      @justawatchin2 4 года назад +1

      another way i'd approach "unquantized" myself is by using a faster rate, long sequence where you can barely perceive the difference between say 5 and 6 beats. but, i find imposing a fluid rhythm on something static to be easier conceptually.

    I got my MF this month and when I live record a sequence it just won't replay my initial playing : it will start with a silence or with the lasts notes of my sequence. it presents also some swing when I make more rythmic patterns.
    Also I found an arpeggiator bug : when I trigger notes on the keyboard the arpeggiator will start with a silence and the note note played = more obvious at low tempo and low rate.

    • @truedanbo
      @truedanbo  5 лет назад +1

      Yes you right, Without metronome, it's almost impossible to record EVERYTHING live. I kind of use step recording to the most obviously and easiest part of my sequence to be the "metronome" if you like, then use the real-time recording to record the majority of the sequence on top of that which is the tricky part to program in step recording. Does that make sense?

    • @truedanbo
      @truedanbo  5 лет назад +2

      @@aken2348 Yes, totally agreed, it might not be too hard to add a flashing light in the rate button to indicate timing in the firmware update. I am pretty sure if Arturia support is as good as novation, they must have done that. Anyway, to answer your question regards to the clock, yes, I did manage to use clock to sync with my drumbrute impact, and with that, I can easily record with the beat from drumbrute. The original pain for me was that when I was on the go and use Microfreak solely, when I tried to record some idea quickly, I won't be able to leverage the real-time recording. Now I have to say, this solution is not perfect in that it's highly relying on the sequence you are recording, but at least for me, I can kind of do that on the go now. Hope that makes sense. :)
