I’m glad she got to speak her truth and tell her side of the story. When reading the book I felt so bad for cam just because they felt as though she didn’t deserve a spot on the team because of the tv show she came from and reading that she was tired of people telling her that she’s not good enough. I’m gone always ride for cam and gabby

Honestly after reading her book clearly us as fans noticed something was up with the team in 2018 we saw it every game . And that “friendly laughing” video Marvin posted she said that was random she didn’t even expect it . And when we wondered why she didn’t get any support from her “captain” you learn why . Everyone was against her down to the sponsor but she persevered and had an amazing season as captain

Some examples include: humiliating the ‘16 crabs, calling them out of their names, letting past dolls and ‘13 dolls haze the crabs, comments like “this is MY team” or “don’t bother standing on your toes cause y’all are not my crabs”, moving Gabby to the back row for no reason... Hmmm... First, Gabby's captain season was PHENOMENAL! It started rocky but ended very, very well. Much respect.
After reading the book, I dont think she is so innocent in all of this. It sounds like she was WITH some of the BS. Sometimes actively contributing to it while crying foul when things didn't work out her way. Also, I still don't know what the lesson is, here? It seems like IMMATURITY is the source of most of the issues (with EVERYONE). Which is a common struggle as young adults come of age. She seems to be a smart creative woman, but I see all of this as an attempt at some sort of Vindication masked as Inspiration. Uneccessary, as she had already vindicated herself on the field! The book seems to be less about helping and more about some unfulfilled level of self-satisfaction. A lot of chatter, even more smoke. She still has much more growing to do, as I'm sure they all do.
I wish her the very best in her next endeavor!

because i read multiple instances of accountability and apologizing on her part [even when others were clearly screwing her over & didn't deserve it].

I just read that book and it is written from the point of view of a young woman without deeper perspective on life. I would love to see how Gabby tells the story 20 years from now. It is like the story line is a sweet, innocent beautiful girl joins an organization and is destined to become captain but she has to go through all of her evil sisters to get to the captain's role. I do not buy it. Gabby is on a team of other beautiful girls who were growing, making mistakes, and learning just like she was doing. Most of all Gabby decided to stick with an organization that she is calling out for its bad behavior. So what does that say about her. I love Gabby and all the dolls, but her book to me is about promoting herself. Some times you have to check your own motives for doing things.
    1. Gabby initiaited the journey with a sense of resistance and a "me against my team/sisters" based on how she portray herself. Everybody on HBCU yards know that as a freshman you have to get out their earn your wings and make your mark. And tmy sense, from the book, seems like she moved each year with this victim mentality without any real connections except through the sponsor or mentors. NEWSFLASH: In the real world, when you join any new organization their is a form of "hazing" or an initiation/process. I would not tolerate anything that would take my dignity away, but you have to be smart about how you navigate your initiation process bcause no matter who you are.
    2. It seems to me that Gabby's journey reflected a young lady that perceived her experience from a victim's mentality. "It is happening to me." "Why me?" I mean you have to know what you are signing up for and from the onset know exactly who you are going to be and how you will deal with the challenges. Because she played the victim, everyone else is the villain. There lies the problem. No one is squeaky clean. There are some situations that I am sure that Gabby contributed to that made it complicated or messy for others. The fact that no team mates supported you is already telling. Whether on a college campus or any other setting, if people have felt like you skated through a process then they wont respect you.
    3. I have always loved the dolls and will continue to love and support them. Gabby full fledged revealed the process while others have hinted at sh*t in social media interviews, but I do not respect that she publicly dragged the doll organization around its process (selection of dolls/captains, initiating crabs, seniority, etc.) I do not agree with everything about how dolls do their process, but at the end of the day it is their process and each young lady chooses to participate. In my observation from Gabby's book and the social media interviews, it seems like the band director and sponsors can do better with the transperancy of the selection process, treatment of crabs, and building team. It was quite shocking to see how captains can be minimized and treated and how sisterhood/team work is conditional to how much I like you and all that other blah blah. That is not being a TEAM. And it seems like the sponsors leave the young girls out there to figure it out on their own. That's crazy. Leadership, team culture, and teamwork standards should all come from the director and sponsors. These girls should not be handling deep conflicts by themselves. That's crazy. To me it seems like the sponsors/band director should be bringing the team together after auditions and creating bonds and uprooting all that crazy sh*t.
These dolls talk about being "womanly/milky" well use that approach when conflicts arises. "I didn't make captain this year." "Oh, well let me learn from someone else on the team and contribute in a different way.
"I got cut from the team." "Let me see what else life has for me. Can I mentor young girls in dance this year? Should I try out for a professional troupe?"
"My team mates and I do not see eye to eye. But Im still gonna show up as my genuine self and show love and not feed into BS"
What are they teaching these girls that so much conflict lives inside the organization?
Get rid of that sorority/crab like mentality and treat it like a professional dance organization.
You dont see football coaches giving that much power to players to creat conflict. A winning coach will get in their and set the culture, mindset, and attitude of the team.
    4. Lastly, some of yall bought the book and are literally taking it word for word. It is one person's perspective.

I understand what you’re saying but in other interviews when the girls are asked questions about D.S you can see it in their faces, body language and the answers. Also in the 2018 videos you can see certain girls make dirty look at Gabby. It’s noticeable.

I also think it’s more so of what you choose to take from the book. Ofc we were introduced to all these girls because of the organization but they are more than just dolls. And also as u stated they all were in a different place in life and were still young. People don’t understand they were no older than 21 and still growing. She touched on a lot more than just the situations people are choosing to take from it.

@@chillguy6870 I'll try and keep this brief since I read the book. Essentially, during Gabby's crab year her captain hazed all of the crabs and she was especially mean to Gabby cursed at her and even threatened her at one point. All of her crab sisters endured this harsh hazing and even the vets on the team didn't care for what her captain was doing. 2017 rolls around and Gabby and her captain make up, and get pretty close so there was not too much drama surrounding that year. The real tea comes when Gabby made captain. According to Gabby all of her crab sisters said that they thought she was too lazy to be captain and didn't deserve it. They ignored her, changed her routines without her knowledge, were very shady in the stands and even bullied her two crabs. Jordan was given the option to join the team but chose not to because she said she didn't respect Gabby enough to dance under her and her captain used the team to attack and demean Gabby the whole season.
