In Japan, a special steel called Yasugi Specialty Steel is made based on the iron making method of katana. This special steel has the same properties as katana and is hard and elastic, so it is hard to break. This special steel is used in various applications such as cutlery steel, materials for high-end kitchen knives made in Japan, materials for razors, materials for automobile parts, automobile engine parts, and aircraft engine parts.
Here a tip instead of knocking the mill scale off with oxide paper make up a plastic tube water tight at one end pour in vinegar and dunk blade leave for two days..done!
не буду Хэйтером, но ковка на 5 с+м ? из скольки.. из 100? там от ковки ничего и нет! имея тигель нужного размера и молоток с наковальней, любой может ИМЕННО так ковать! Он не соблюдал элементарные техники ковки лезвия, а тупо СТОЧИЛ, какой смысл тогда вообще ковать?
@@KM-Katarai_Mitsu не любой. Лично я не стал бы растягивать вручную кусок рельса, а использовал бы в качестве исходника рессору... и сталь получше, и энергозатраты меньше.
@@ВикторАрсенюк-т9ж поддерживаю, хотя рессора вроде как уже термообработанная разве нет? И опять же.. тут от ковки одно название, имея даже рессору ее все равно нужно вдоль лезвия ковать, упрочняя слой стали, именно для прочности лезвия. Если просто сточить, то нужной прочности у лезвия не достичь!
@@KM-Katarai_Mitsu рессора имеет твердость порядка 45 единиц по Роквеллу. Надо отпилить полоску нужнвх размеров, произвести отжиг. Проковвать, сформировав спуски. Потом черновая слесарка, закалка и отпуск, чистовая слесарка. В любом случае клинок из рессоры будет обладать лучшими режущими свойствами, чем из рельсы. Хотя вряд ли кто то будет идти с этой катаной в бой.

It doesn't have a gap in the cable although it still isn't quite as suitable for a category above. There are still a few things missing, for example a leather on the handle. What does the wrapping in mud do for the harding process? I watch you do that on the other Katana (from a chain), but not on the Long Sword (Also from a chain). By the way, impressive work!
Claying a blade was performed to slow down quenching of the areas of the blade that were heavily clayed. The intention is to cause the edge to quench to full hardness while the back either transforms to equilibrium, soft constituents, or autotemper from retained heat to a softer, tougher microstructure
Nice build, but not a true Katana. This is actually more of a Dan Dao or Tachi sword since there is only one piece of steel being used, no differentiation between the high carbon or low carbon to create the spine and wrap the edge. No folding and no true heat treat into a quench to create the curve. Again. Nice build. But the lack of technique actually detracts from what the finished product is billed as.

Nice sword but to me it looks more like a Ninjato Sword as its mostly straight whereas a Katana has more curve on the blade.
katana have a variety of curvature, there is one blade from the muromachi period that is almost straight so the form isn't anything set in stone
