Yeah, SHINee's not much older than BTS even though they debuted much earlier (SHINee in 2008, and BTS in 2013). They debuted very young at 18, 18, 16, 16, and 14; I think they were the youngest group by average age to debut at the time, actually. Babies! Interesting your mom says Broadway, since they really do have a bunch of musical theater-like performances. You should show her Woof Woof, Girls Girls Girls, Queen of New York, and Why So Serious (Dance Break). I think she'd enjoy those SHINee performances. :) She's also right that they're super accessible to an audience that wouldn't otherwise be into K-pop, because it's kind of the thing among the Korean general public that even if you don't know anything about idols, you know and like SHINee songs. With KPOP, there are many facets to SHINee. Show your mom SHINee 1000 Years Always By Your Side, it's a Japanese release. It's a storyteller MV but you won't need captions to follow along. It's a wonderful song/MV that shows another side to SHINee, not just the bombastic showmanship but their craft as artists. Highly recommend!
I think you’ll also enjoy the latest Sherlock performance on their ENCORE concert with Onew you can hear it a little bit different, but it still hit hard despite only 4 of them performing. SHINee just keep on improving and always give their all every single time from their debut till today.

That was fun. Your mom immediately got what's great about SHINee. I turn 70 this year and I enjoy hearing the perspective of other folks who are older than kpop's target demographic. I'm sure she'd also like some of the other kpop goats like Super Junior and TVXQ. Looks like you've shown her a few boy groups so maybe it's time to introduce her to kpop's vocal queens Mamamoo via some of their spectacular performances on the Immortal Songs singing competition tv show like Backwoods and Delilah (the old Tom Jones hit) or the Immortal Songs Medley that they used to perform in their concerts, which is an excellent intro to MMM.
I’m an older fan as well and it’s always the vocals that get me first, I went from Park Hyo Shin to shinee, BtoB EXO, MonstaX and now Ateez. But Shinee has always felt experimental and international in their sound, Jonghyun reminds me of Prince
I reco Dream Girl & Fire live performances. There is one comeback with Dream Girl that they had a prop malfunction & how they dealt with it while performing was so amazing to see. Re Broadway, 2 of them have been in productions - Onew & Key. Glad your mom enjoyed them! I’ve been a fan of theirs for 15 years, 1 year shy of how long they’ve been in the business. 😊
Oh I love SHINee. I hope you 2 can react more to them they have such a wide discography with amazing music and have touched every genre. They are a SM entertainment group and SM groups are known for their vocal abilities and amazing harmonies. I recommend you check more SM Groups too if you can, and more 2nd Generation too maybe.
I loved you and your mum's insights! There is something so large and captivating and dramatic about SHINee, Broadway was a good comparison! SHINee really are something special, their individuality and talents are so distinctive, but they fit together so incredibly well. Jonghyun's vocals for me are still the best in kpop (and my personal favourite). I really recommend Ring Ding Dong + Lucifer from SWC5, its such an intense and insane performance, or Replay from SWC5, super smooth and great vocals.
Yep, they are indeed amazing 😊 Shinee debuted under SM Entertainment, a vocal power house, every group from the company is hugely appreciated for their vocal versatility and the bright spectrum of styles I recommend you EXO , your mom will love them , I'm myself in my last 40s and a big fan of good vocals, particularly EXO 😉

SHINee have imho the best concerts together with BTS. Different, but so full of energy! SHINee were shown to rookie BTS as an example by their managers on how to perform 😊 there is an episode of Suchwita where Suga hosts Taemin (shinee's maknae, role model for 3 generations of idols and Jimin's bestie). It's a very interesting episode: Suga and Taemin have the same age, and we see two introvert workaholics, devoted to their craft and their music explaining their point of view and finding common grounds. Amazing episode, also showing the 2min's friendship ❤ because at some point Jimin joins the chat 😂
