Verbotene Liebe - Forbidden Love was first non English language soap storyline I followed when I joined YT. Recently I rewatched their storyline, of all Carla's relationships IMO Hanna was the love of her life. I also had a huge crush on Carla, she had Bette Porter vibes.

The pity of this pair is that they were in _this_ Soap, and both the actresses were far too good to be *in* this Soap...
I know very little about this Show, nothing really, but it was very lucky to be able to attract _some_ good acting talent by which to give it some watchability, and up to a point this storyline up above had some strong writing behind it too - but it's really these two actresses who made it so very memorable and warming to follow. I love the grounded nature seen here, and 'Hanna' is by far the most plausible and believable of Carla's romances.
It's just a great shame that it ended as poorly as it did, and it had to be in a Soap. I would have loved to have seen these two in some other show instead, something better planned and with more time for these two to grow and develop...
Still, wonderful stuff. Both actresses are giving it their all, and it shows. It remains very watchable even today, such is the quality of this first half.
The problem with these long running series is that contracts of actors expire and sometimes aren't renewed, which requires storywriters to invent a reason for couples to break up or in this case have one of them die.
It drowns an otherwise beautiful love story in an overload of drama and the cases where both parts of a couple leave the series at the same time, which allows for the story to have them move away from the location of the series together (like Keriette in Marienhof) are very rare.

I guess I remember this! One of the first times I saw queer women kiss on German TV! Must have been in the 1990's! The show was lame but I had to watch it for obvious reasons! But this wasn't Carla's first girlfriend, right? Or was there another lesbian couple on the show before? 😊🏳️🌈
I only watched from Hanna point of Carla's storyline because I didn't subtitles and relied on what was uploaded on YT. The series came across much like US soaps, the appeal was Carla for me. I didn't feel Susanne pairing which went on too long or their ending, but liked Stella.
