    Why not a U1000 type topology?

      Thank you for your interest in " Medium Voltage Drive Basics". The primary benefits of MATRIX drive topology (i.e. U1000) are the ability to regenerate power back to the line, and harmonic mitigation. Medium voltage applications tend to be non-regenerative. For most MV applications, the topology of the MV1000 effectively mitigates harmonic distortion, and provides a more cost effective solution than a fully regenerative MATRIX topology.
