anyone notice that anytime someone on stage was doing well, the camera would pan onto JD and he always had this jealous, angry, worried expression on his face? every single one of the last 6 contestants (marty, suzie, mig, ty, deanna, jordis) were better than him- he only got the gig because he was the most inxs-y in his tone and style. and btw, i rattled off all those names from memory--- they were just THAT GOOD.
INXS blew it by not getting Marty. Saw this when the episode aired and it blew me away. He decided to do it solo just right before this as I recall. Home run. I thought he had the gig after this.
I'm still so glad Marty didn't win, because he was definitely the best... and I like hearing him playing his own material instead of being some INXS contracted employee
Naysayers should go to iTunes or even search RUclips for some of Marty's work with the band Lovehammers. Covers aren't always the easiest thing, and (as watchers of RS:INXS will remember) he made a last second decision to go totally acoustic on his own (sans the House Band). Therefore, he may have been a bit nervous. LH put out a new album recently called Heavy Crown. It is an excellent album.
@dimezakkrandy I was surprised when JD won, but I saw them on the Switch Tour - he was exactly what they wanted. I actually agree that Marty was better on the show, but JD really delivered on the INXS sound.
Marty was the winner , but they didn't fit together. They wanted a yes man , and Marty already was a professional who could have taken them to new heights if they would have been willing to step out of the box and time warp . So guess who got chosen and look what happened . Marty continues with his band Lovehammers who has been together for 20 years now . Awesome band . Give them a listen.
Dude, I remember watching this on TV and there was some AWESOME commentary by one of the judges afterward, talking about how his vocals were a little pitchy, but that rock 'n roll ain't about hitting all the right notes, and I can't find video of it anywhere! :( HELP!
This just shows you the type of talent that was found through this series. I never really thought that J.D. was the right fit for INXS and history and all the problems that he bought has proven that. Looking back at this reminds me why J.D. wasn't the right fit. ...here is your real winner!!

Marty was actually the original writer of pretty Vegas but gave the song to JD. JD won because he sounded the most like Michael Hutchence.
