What I love about this bass player is how she curls the pick into her index finger when she slaps and pops. The switching is so fast, like sleight of hand.
I think Kanami and the girls produce the most dense yet completely integrated music for any hard rock band in history. And if you isolate Saiki's singing, it's amazing how many runs and vocal techniques she uses, especially in songs like No God and Wonderland, etc.. But she can be overlooked because of the flurry of notes and sound flying around her. You gotta love these super polite, unassuming geniuses that become warriors on stage and in the studio! Thx SYGHEH, for another great reaction to the greatest hard rock band on the planet!
G'day Sygne. Engaging once again! This one only seen live online - yet to be seen in front of a live crowd. Every fan looking forward to that day. And as far as I can tell is played as written for the album, complete with solo! Saiki does get some extra grit into the vocal performance, and the Akane smile always worth watching for live.
About time. A reaction to Band Maid is well worth waiting for. Misa doing a live show off bit? It would be true for any other band but frankly I have this fantasy of Kanami asking the other members who wants to do a brief solo and them all sighing deeply and eventually one steps forward. Showcasing the talent that each of them have in different songs is always fun. Watching any of their live performances on DVD or at the time leaves with a jaw ache as I smile from beginning to end.
For those who do not know - MISA picks with her index and thumb then tucks the index finger up to her palm to slap with the other 3 fingers and thumb. Gorgeously done!
Oh for sure the slide octaves are definitely a MISA signature. She uses it so much and with her PERFECT bass tone it adds such an amazing layer to all their songs. You really need to check out the full album Unseen World. The standouts on the album, through the entire album, are MISA and Akane just going absofuckinglutely insane with beats, fills, solos, and just generally being total badasses. I would suggest checking out I Still Seek Revenge and Honkai for some more MISA amazeballness. MISA stated that I Still Seek Revenge was the most difficult song for her given all the work she does in the song and Honkai she had a significant influence on the song writing. She has also recently stated that she wants to try her hand at writing a full song as well I, for one, think what MISA would compose would be absolute FIRE!
Thanks for your in-depth analysis of the song. This is a good one that highlights MISA, but as you'll discover, in most of their songs, MISA is not buried in the mix like other bands, she's given the freedom to shine when it's appropriate, Kanami is ego free and writes so all members get to shine.
No God gives you a serious Misa fix, for sure! Misa is one of the best bass players alive today, imho! Gotta love the Assassin! In the words of Miku Kobatto, "Why am I me? What are the odds?"
If you want more Misa solo, you have to see, Play or Onset, both live versions. If you want another awesome solo (I rather not say which one) you have to see Freedom, also live.
There is a version of the song that's entirely instrumental floating around the Internet if you can find it.... Well worth a listen for the true music connoisseur.
Solos aren't overly long in band-maid songs, although this Misa solo feels a lot longer than usual. I think Kanami decided to cast even more light to the band's rhythm section in this latest album, which works, as it's a big part of band-maid's signature sound imo. Great reaction! 👍 so happy to have you back. ❤
Great reaction. MISA goes nuts with the slapping pretty much all the way through 'I Still Seek Revenge' on the new album. Would be amazing to see her play it live...YT audio here... ruclips.net/video/H0xsEwtKUkQ/видео.html What's great about the Live's though is her levels are always higher and you can better taste what she's cookin' :-)
MISA switches between pick and slap at least 20 times during this one track. MISA plays lead bass guitar. If you notice the job of carrying the rhythm of the song is passed between all of the rolls even the vocals.
Oh yeah 👍, in some of the songs Misa is literally playing a legit bass quasi bass solo/ and she may stick with a simple groove bass line for a minute here and there, but then you will look and hear during a Kanami guitar solo that Misa is actually playing an elaborate, connected or pre-emptive sort of bass lead that is not at all a standard sort of typical bass line.
In your About section, I see you mentioned a 5-string bass. Well, I happen to know that Spector is producing a 5-string Signature Series bass in the name of Alejandra Villarreal. She and her sisters form The Warning, who went viral (22 million views) with their cover of Metallica's Enter Sandman in 2014. Now, Metallica has invited them to cover it again for their Blacklist album and The Warning is about to come out with their 3rd album. Check out their channel on YT for Evolve, their newest single - and wear a seatbelt!
I can see you enjoy McDonald's! Hahaha! If you didn't know, most of Band-Maid videos have subtitles. So you can understand the lyrics. Welcome to Maid World. Enjoy the trip!
Some say Band-Maid has revived rock n roll. No, they didn't. They reinvented it. "The sound of the unseen world." Sacramento loves Band-Maid. This song has nothing to do with the existence of god. It has everything to do with not counting on any god to save you. "Don't wait for the miracle. Go out and greet it."
You sure, it's 2/4? I count it as 4/4, but in cut time which feels like 2/4. There was also a few moments where they were playing slightly ahead and behind the beat. This greats a push and pull feeling that also makes it feel like a time signature feel. Though they might've dropped a beat coming out of the bass solo. That and Miku is more of a droning chord under Kanami's lead riff which is enhanced with an octave effect. That's why it sounds like two lead players.
I recommend you check out Kiyoshi if you haven't already. Her song, Hero, is a good start. She plays lead bass (yes, LEAD bass) in a rock funk kind of style and her technical ability is off the planet! I guarantee you won't be disappointed.😊
"In 2021 a band of 5 Japanese ladies wearing maid outfits released a hard rock song in which like 50% of the melody and the solo are carried out by the bass" Just leaving this sentence here for the future generations.
You know, let's cut through all the bullshit...you know...BAND-MAID is the best...you know...live rock band of the last...you know...30 years...or more! You know?
My first time on your channel..Please do react to ONE OK ROCK-The Beginning live(Official Video from EYE OF THE STORM)you'll never disappoint of this japanese rock band🙏subbed..
To me MISA plays bass with a different mindset. Rather than treating it like an electrified stand-up bass being played finger style, she treats it like a bass *guitar* and will frequently mirror the lead guitar. I know that Kanami puts together a demo and hands it off to MISA and Akane to do their things, but it makes me curious how much she and Kanami collaborate.
So i read some where kanami sends two or three video calls/messages, with chords/arrangements she's planning to use and just lets misa get creative. Then misa hooks up with akane, they try various drum patterns and improve on the bass riffs until it sounds right.🤘🤘🤘.
Hi, if you like Band Maid you should check out a couple other all female Japanese bands - LOVEBITES abd NEOMOPHILA. They are both heavier than Band Maid. I think yiou will like Lovebites - check out 'Holy War', 'Swan Song' and 'Edge of the World', in facl anything from their live gig at Zeppo Diver City, Tokyo 2020. No country is keeping the flame of rock burning quite so brightly as Japan. The number of great bands is staggering, the level of virtuoso musicianship is ridiculously high and the number of kick-ass and bad ass female rock musicians and all female and women-fronted hard rock and metal bands is unrivalled anywhere else in the world.
HMMM what Band Maid song to recommend? Pretty much any of them I can honestly say I still search unsuccessfully for a "dud". The longer they're around the better they seem to get. Another Band to suggest? Try Japan's Babymetal, different from Band Maid, but also awesome, they're a mash of J pop and metal. suggested link below ruclips.net/video/FKOL6v3Md2c/видео.html
I1m glad you enjoyed the song , because us viewers couldnt because you talked over the whole song , yes I know its a reaction vied but you can pause n talk , I wish reactors would realize your listening to the song on head phones , you have an open mic so when you talk the song doesn't get interrupted for you but it does for us viewers .
The cool/weird thing about Misa is the only parts she play really simple and straight forward are her solos. I've played bass for 30-ish years, 10 of which as a full time professional. Her solos I can do in my sleep, what she does the rest of the songs would take a LOT more work to play flawless.
Makes sense given that they seem to write with live performances in mind. I can see where live, a more complex solo would just be a big sonic blur for the audience, although I guess it depends on what kind of complexity we're talking about.
You want a bass solo and powerful vocals, check out BABYMETAL Rondo of Nightmare live at Budokan Black Night. Misa and BOH are the best and no one is better than SU-METAL
Su's vocals paint with acrylics, clean and pure. Saiki's are watercolors with that little bit of roughness and blending. Both beautiful, but fundamentally different.
How are you hearing the song while constantly talking over it? Why don't you show the artists some respect, and hit the pause button when you want to over-analyze their work?? And what's this "we love..." business? You sound like Gollum when you say that.
Taking a shot every time She says _'you know'_ and now I'm totally hammered!!!!
YES! 👏🏻🤣
She gets rather excited. Good for her I say
Po, you know!
I think the number of shots would be enough for 10 people to be totally destroyed. But somehow it also fits when you talk about Misa. 🤣🍻
"Ah" counting? As in, Toastmasters?
What I love about this bass player is how she curls the pick into her index finger when she slaps and pops. The switching is so fast, like sleight of hand.
That's something that MISA does very well, and is known for - you may also note her fingering style, to work around holding the pick.
You’re back with the Maids. Band Maid best rock band anywhere, po!
Good to see you back!
I was the one who mentioned about the bass solo in this song, on one of your unboxing live streaming quite while ago👍🕊
Yay! Syngeh's back :)

Nice react SYGNEH. Your thoughts were flowing. You stated many reasons why Band-Maid is great. All members compliment each other. Always. Peace.
What a treat ! Good to have you back on the Band Maid wagon ;-)
Great job!. Welcome to Band Maid. We are many masters in the fans van we need more princesses!
You want the best of everything? Say hello to BAND-MAID.
That's not true. They suck at making bad music.

Welcome back and thank you for your nice reaction again!
I am still waiting for your bass cover of Manners, btw.
Stay safe and Peace&Love (P_O)🕊❣
Manners is a outstanding song! And Misa's bass lines through the track are just literally killer!
Manners is a killer fucking song!! Misa's bass lines in the track are just as good as if gets!
For those who do not know - MISA picks with her index and thumb then tucks the index finger up to her palm to slap with the other 3 fingers and thumb. Gorgeously done!

This was a BAND-MAID “you kNOw GOD” reaction 👌🏻
Thanks SYGNEH!
Thank you for the awesome reaction, I would love to see you look at one of their instrumental song called "Onset" Live, It is a very interesting song
No God gives you a serious Misa fix, for sure! Misa is one of the best bass players alive today, imho! Gotta love the Assassin! In the words of Miku Kobatto, "Why am I me? What are the odds?"
THE best live Rock band on Earth. Think that covers everything.
You know Band-Maid is great.
That slap bass in the middle took me right back to Paul Simon's Call Me Al. This was all just great.

Well said and I would agree that the focus on the rhythm section in some of the songs from that album really plays very well.
Good job
one of their most unique tracks! ♥ BTW - they do have subtitles for this song
Lisa's new years resolution is to play the better. Always striving to be better.
The “Whoa oh oh oh” is the part where we will sing along when BAND-MAID goes on tour.

Most definitely, I absolutely love introducing people to this song/ video, and just watching their reactions, it's wonderful as a Band Maid fan.
