The history of grocery begins with a dealer who sold by the gross-that is, in large quantities at discounted retail prices. A grocer in medieval England was a wholesaler, and the name is derived from an Anglo-French word having the same meaning, groser. Grocer gained widespread use during the 14th century when a group of wholesale dealers in spices and foreign produce came together to form the Company of Grocers of London, which now exists as the Worshipful Company of Grocers-a charitable and ceremonial organization in London.

It's a real shame it didn't do that well at the box office, but 1988 was a big year for blockbuster movies like Die Hard. In fact every year that John Carpenter had a movie come out (with the exception of Halloween), there was a bigger, more popular movie released around the same time. In fact I think there are only two Carpenter movies, that actually made a profit in the year of release and one of them was Halloween.
Greetings MINTY! "They Live" YES!!!! One Of My All Time Favorite Deserted Island Movies For Me. I Loved The Whole Concept When I Was A Kid. The Idea That My Weekday Morning & Saturday Morning Cartoons, Were Sending Subliminal Messages To Take Over The World Was Awesome!!! I Was Totally Down To Take Over The Planet. Even Though I Was Rootin' For Rowdy All The Way. I Thought To Myself, "I Just Won't Fight Rowdy. Someone Else Can Try To Do That."
Keith David in this movie and in “Men at Work” forever makes him one of my favorite actors of all time. Yeah. They are both comedies but, his performance is so angry, scary and real it gave me respect for actors.
4:44 This line was also made popular & more well known courtesy of Duke Nukem in 'Duke Nukem 3D' but with the words rearranged:- "It's time to kick ass & chew bubblegum... & I'm all outta gum"
I was wondering if you would do this one - loved it! “ Also, “grocer” is derived from the French “grossier” meaning wholesale merchant. The Anglo use dates the the 15th century. Conspiracy theorists believe it derives from “engrossment” or a twisting of laws to mark up foods but they are wrong.
Yo, I fucking love this film!! 💜 My dad introduced me to it and it was amazing. The crazy thing is... I've had experiences similar the main character before. It happened maybe last year, but I would read magazines and news papers, look at covers and posters and etc... To see weird shit. Sometimes it would be words like, "you wish you were pretty or your ugly". To you need this, be like us, despair and etc... Just blatant underlying subtext and corrosive programing in these products. Something else just said "Sugar" or "Modified". Or just any combination of "Submit, Sleepy, buy this and etc..." It was trippy as hell. I don't do drugs and wasn't drunk, but for those few days... I literally saw all of the subliminal messaging in shit. I told some family members and they thought I was crazy. Maybe there is some truth behind the message....🤷
I love this movie so much, that I learned all of those things over the years. It's the only one you've presented, ever, where I knew every one as you listed it. Great video and thanks for your unique channel. Merry Christmas from Chicago!
This movie is more relevant in today's times than ever before with the rise of social media, Amazon, & the complacency that modern humans have fallen into. It's like the frog in the pot analogy if you slowly turn up the heat, the frog doesn't notice and eventually boils, but if you put a frog in a pan of boiling water it tries to get out. I know this movie was made back in the '80s, as a slam against corporate greed, and Reaganomics, but as I said before it's even more prevalent today.
Another fun fact, in southpark when jimmy and Timmy have their fight, it’s pretty much shot for shot the same as this fight scene. Jimmy even uses a couple lines from the fight.
Roddy Piper still makes my heart go pitter-pat, may he rest in peace! Also, I submit for your consideration that this film contains one of the best bare-knuckle fight scenes in movie history. These decades later, it's still almost painful to watch them knock the shite out of each other!
That European poster isn't based on a Chuck Norris film, it's pulled directly from Carpenter's Assault on Precinct 13. Even more odd, at the top, it says "New York 1997" which is from Escape From NY. Strange
By the looks of it, this movie feels like it could have been an episode of The Twilight Zone. It has the sci-fi aspects that cover up the commentary and themes of the problems with humanity, which The Twilight Zone repeatedly did.
Also fun fact ....the fight scene in this movie was taken punch for punch in South Parks episode Cripple Fight. Timmy and Jimmy fight it out recreating that iconic scene
I just noticed in that last scene a copy of an Edgar Cayce Book behind Nada's head. Edgar Cayce was the famous psychic born who gained prominence in the late 1800s. Wonder what that Carpenter intended with that.

Nowadays they'd simply overwrite it in german, but back then they had to leave the english messages and add a voice to explain them. IMO the whispering makes it a lot better.
I remember stumbling upon this movie in the late 80's on Sky tv (Uk) and being thoroughly entertained. Great movie.
WE are living the movie now !
@@ghostcityshelton9378 We have been living for generations already.
A few months back, I got to see this and The Thing, at a Drive-In movie place. It was so rad.
One of the coolest 80’s movies ever!!!! John Carpenter made some of the best cult movies ever!!!!
Geez, it's almost like this movie was a 1980's prediction of late 2020 America...
I agree
“Invasion Los Angeles” in 🇫🇷.
I LOVED this movie !!! 🤗❤️
I liked the false recession narrative. Gave me pause to the real world.
2020 has made this movie into a documentary.
But, its got nothing on 2023....
Love this film. Looking forward to this one!
Same! Ty Minty!!
@Natural Creature some monster scenes and plenty of good moments for me. It is what It is and I think there is plenty to enjoy.
This film is still relevant today!! People really need to wake up!! Awesome movie!
"They Live" is a documentary.
Keith David in this movie and in “Men at Work” forever makes him one of my favorite actors of all time. Yeah. They are both comedies but, his performance is so angry, scary and real it gave me respect for actors.
Also good in, "The Thing" by Carpenter.
Rent a cop ... I hate rent a cop.... Awwww look at that, they throwin away a perfectly good white boy. 😂😅
Another Carpenter classic
One of my favorite movies when I was a kid in the 80's. Keep them coming, I love your vids!!
4:44 This line was also made popular & more well known courtesy of Duke Nukem in 'Duke Nukem 3D' but with the words rearranged:-
"It's time to kick ass & chew bubblegum... & I'm all outta gum"
@Killua Zoldyck Oh yeah, 1st learnt the quote from the Duke then found out later it originally came from "They Live"
@Killua Zoldyck Well
.... I was 4 when it came out in the cinema... Took me a LOOOOOOOONG while before at last owning it on DVD!
Piper is a legend. This is one of his best works and it’s a shame he didn’t get more exposure like Dwayne Johnson (who is also a talented actor).
MInty Comedic Arts has come to chew bubblegum and inform us. And Minty Comedic Arts still has some bubblegum! 😊
My friends and I saw this in the theater and we absolutely loved it. So many lines incorporated into our banter for years. The ending was the best.
Didn’t piper say on his death bed that they live wasn’t a action movie but a documentary
The only thing the Movie got wrong was that The Rulers are not Extra-Terrestial, but Evil, Sociopathic HUman Beings
I think it was symbolism that some humans see themselves as a higher than the rest of us
It's so beautiful to read these comments, and see all the "woke" people. It gives me hope!
we still have a long way to go !
Keep waking the sheep untill we are in the new dimension !
#1 was originally "IT'S ALL TRUE!!!" but the aliens made Minty change it.
I saw this film in the theater in 1988. Great flick!!!
Great video Minty. RIP Roddy Piper. Its been 5 years since you passed.
My dad introduced me to it and it was amazing. Or just any combination of "Submit, Sleepy, buy this and etc..."
It was trippy as hell. I don't do drugs and wasn't drunk, but for those few days... I literally saw all of the subliminal messaging in shit. I told some family members and they thought I was crazy.
Maybe there is some truth behind the message....🤷
I remember first time watching noticing they were using recycled PKE meters from Ghostbusters lol
I love this movie so much, that I learned all of those things over the years. It's the only one you've presented, ever, where I knew every one as you listed it. Great video and thanks for your unique channel. Merry Christmas from Chicago!
Put the glasses on and the newspaper said
WATCH MINTY
Jimmy even uses a couple lines from the fight.
ruclips.net/video/_Jxm6JQDN98/видео.html.
here ya go
Holy crap you're doing this movie, yes! One of the greatest movies of all time everyone should watch. Now more than ever!
"Rowdy" Roddy Piper💪 John Carpenter🎃 I came hear "wearing my sunglasses at night"😎 to chew gum & kick ass! "They Live!"💀 I'm all outta chewing gum
They Live & Jumanji.......if the year 2020 was ever to be made into a film!
i saw the sign...i opened up my eyes i saw the sign
One big irony is, 35 years after the movie is made, people are talking into their watches now!
Roddy Piper still makes my heart go pitter-pat, may he rest in peace! Also, I submit for your consideration that this film contains one of the best bare-knuckle fight scenes in movie history. These decades later, it's still almost painful to watch them knock the shite out of each other!
We are now living this movie
“I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass… and I’m all out of bubblegum.” Roddy Piper
Well put amber i would say the same thing if I. Was in that movie.
Awesome scene from an awesome episode!🤘🏼
The European poster looks more like Duke Nukem cover art.
The fight scene has also been re-created in the show south park with "cripple fight" with timmy and jimmy..
Huh, I'm in Europe but I always ever knew it as They Live. Def prefer They Live!
True, it was "Están vivos" in Spain. They only renamed it in France. And they used the Assault on Precinct 13 poster too.
This is a great summary!
Big fan of your work bishop!
Sometimes or how to say this,
life imitates art, art imitates life.
Like in this CRAZY days.
So my question is the game duke nukem says the same line, is this movie where he got that from?
That is one of my favorite lines in a movie!! Chew gum and kick ass! I love it! Enjoyed your video! ❤️💜💚
The "I'm here to chew bubble gum" line is a line Piper used a few times in the wrestling territories, he couldn't use it in the WWF though.
liking the faster transitions from the countdown number screens, better editing all around makes a tighter better video dude! Great Job.
yup the sayings that good duke nukem ripped it of
I just noticed in that last scene a copy of an Edgar Cayce Book behind Nada's head. Edgar Cayce was the famous psychic born who gained prominence in the late 1800s. Wonder what that Carpenter intended with that.
LOL, when he said "European title change." I was like "No, there was no European title in the WWF at that time."
Excellent movie; the destruction of the homeless camp reminded me of another similar film, Soylent Green.
Roddy Piper was the best at trolling before it was called trolling!!!
I absolutely love this film thanks for doing it Minty. And by the way I just think your delivery and overall method of doing your shows is excellent. I can’t believe that I have only subscribed today as I have watched and enjoyed so many of your shows.
Frank armitage is actually the name of Kieth David's character.
I noticed that as well when checking the cast on Google. Is there any significance i wonder?
@@popomomo12 not sure. john carpenter can be a pretty cryptic guy so it's hard to say.its probably a cross between two people from his past.im sure there's a story behind it but haven't seen it.there may be an interview somewhere where he explains it.maybe on the new 4k release from shout/scream factory that's coming out soon.
That Invasion Los Angeles poster for the European version is one of the posters used in Carpenter's Assault on Precinct 13. Only thing that is different is the name.
Comedy?
They Live might have some funny or ironic moments
but in my book, this is a straightforward SciFi Action film.
The movie art for Invasion Los Angeles was taken directly from John Carpenters Assault on Precinct 13
So when are we going to get a "Ten things you didn't know about Minty" ?
*gotta leave some aspects of Minty™ mysterious and unknowable...it's for the best*
Number 5: in Russia this movie is called "Aliens among Us" which also removes all the mystery from the plot
This movie should begin with a statement: “Based on true events”.
I agree! If Minty doesn’t believe in subliminal messaging from our TV and commercials and how it’s shaped society to what it is today then he needs some new Sunglasses.
Put the sun glasses on --- NOW READ 😎👉👉AP --- YOUR PRESIDENT WILL BE.....
I'm surprised that you didn't mention that the rapper Cage based his Movies For The Blind album cover on the movie poster for They Live. Classic underground album.
This is happening right now...
Yes it's incredible how they could telegraph their intentions in these movies from decades ago and still be able to fulfill their plan. Man we is STUPID!🤢
Best place to hide the truth is directly in front of your face.... Wake ppl up and fight back
Perhaps it's you, Minty, that didn't know that movie was not actually a comedy. Food for thought. Keep it up, love your takes.
