This is another exciting train cab ride especially in the Czech Republic with the awesome beautiful countryside to look at it is really nice have a good week and thank you for more trains.☕🚂🚃🚃🚃
Hello Roger, the Czech countryside is a lot like the English countryside, the main difference is that they didn't close their branch lines as happened in the UK, as a result it is still possible to enjoy scenes such as those visible from this train 🛤🚂🚃😊.
Wow! Thank you for sharing...I've always liked these massive steam locomotives...back in the 1950's, when I was 5-6 years old visiting my grandparents in Pennsylvania coal country, my grandfather would take me down to the railroad tracks and we'd spend hours watching the huge steam locos hauling hundreds of coal cars from the mines. I enjoyed every minute of it...great memories.
Wow, you were lucky to have witnessed big steam locomotives doing the job they were designed to do in Pennsylvania back in the 50's. I'm glad you enjoyed the video 😊.
Where to start, I have so many nice things to say about this video. First off, thank you for uploading, I don't always get to watch your vids because of the duration commitment to watch them all the way through. Beautiful Countryside and structures and the trackage is in Class 1-A condition. When the loco gets up to speed, she truly steams smoothly and quieter than expected and must be a great pleasure to operate. I am not a fan of the 2 whistles because I grew up around American steam whistles, but compared to the horn on the modern DRC, I like them Ha ha. The weather on this day reminds of the England's. There are 1 or 2 videos here on YT of 2 of these same Kreigsloks still working revenue trains at a coal mine operation somewhere in Central Europe, I want to say Slovakia? But anyway, they don't look or run as nicely as this one. ❤👍👍
Thank you for your kind comment, the Czech Republic is a great place for train watching, they love and look after their trains and railways, even lightly used branch lines such as this one. The locomotive looked and sounded good, a credit to the guys who look after her. I loved the sound of the deep whistle, it gave the impression that something really big was approaching. I posted a series of videos featuring Kriegsloks working on the Bosnia and Herzegovina coal railways near Tuzla, please click on this link to watch the first video in the series - ruclips.net/video/2EW89V2-dlU/видео.html It is possible you were thinking of Slovenia rather than Slovakia, this playlist features a number of videos taken in the countries of the former Yugoslavia, some of them featuring Kriegsloks - ruclips.net/p/PLPdTWbkwx85qSOgH-kJGJ88jCpcX2aNAy I did film a locomotive that is similar in appearance to a Kreigslok in Slovakia - ruclips.net/video/ZkneGYiZE0c/видео.html The countries of the former European Eastern Block are a Mecca for those who enjoy watching big steam locomotives at work. I'm glad you enjoyed the video
An unusual design, and wonderful that a loco designed to last ten years can still be going strong after 80 years! Seemed to be a well-organised trip, Tim, with good opportunities to film the loco steaming along the track.
Hello Jim, rail tours in the Czech Republic are some of the best. They are well run by people who love their trains and they are keen to share their passion with like-minded visitors. A good number of these rural railways have survived and are available to be use by steam charter trains. Health and Safety is a lot more relaxed in Eastern Europe making run pasts and other photo opportunities much easier to organise.
Thank you, it's nice to know you enjoyed this video, the Czech Republic is one of the best countries to see a wide variety trains in action ranging from the very latest to some of the oldest still running on the main line.
Hi Tim! This is actually a German Class 52 steam locomotive👍, and it's true, it was built for the war number 2. Best regards from the Mühlviertel, Hans 🍻🇦🇹
Hello Hans, thanks for the information (German Class 52 steam locomotive). This locomotive and the carriages looked like new, a real credit to the people who look after them. 🍻 Tim.
It's winter or very early spring I gather from the people all wrapped up against the cold and the country looks so green and lush because of the high rainfall which maybe added to soon judging by the clouds. A wonderful DEV Tim (as always) and it's odd that engines like the Kriegslok or austerities where all built to have a short life span. But they were built tough to stand up to a life of abusive and indifferent treatment and that maybe the secret to their longevity. One more thing Happy New Year to you Tim albeit a bit late now.
Hello Pete, this tour took place in April 2024 and by the time we reached Štíty wet sleet had started to fall. Rail tours in the countries of the former Eastern Bloc are always fun, the locomotives are well looked after, the crews love to share their passion for railways and Health and Safety regulations are kept to a sensible minimum allowing photo run pasts and the like to take place with the minimum of fuss. The design and build quality of the various war and austerity locomotives must have been good for so many to still be in working at close on 80 years old. Thanks for the New Year greetings and I hope 2025 is a good year for you too. All the best. Tim.
Ah, the kriegsloks. My favorite steam locomotive. Back in 2013, when i was 5, i went to a special train ride called: "voz romantika", which translates to: "romantic train". The ride would take you from one city to another, sometimes even from belgrade to the border of bulgaria, and it was this type of steam locomotive that made me fall in love with steam trains ❤
Hi, there are a number of Kriegslok's still running in Europe at the head of special heritage trains such as this one and the one you rode back in 2013. They were designed to last in operation for only 10 years and to the credit of the designers and manufacturers some are still steaming at 80 years old 👍😊
Thank you, I'm pleased you enjoyed the ride. There will be more videos from this part of the world, because it's great place for train watching and I'll be visiting again.
Hi Tim, I really love the railways of the Czech Republic & the beautiful countryside and it's great there branch lines are still open unlike Aust & the Uk where they closed them down forever🤬 cheers Bob.🚂🚃🚃🚃🤠
Hello Bob, Czeckoslovakians sensibly cut out as many overheads as possible, the minimum of lineside fencing, minimal stations and until recently single carriage trains that look like buses on rails, even the replacement units are built for the job. Add to that a sensible fares policy that makes train travel attractive and it’s also nice to see freight waggons being loaded with wood in many of the station sidings. Here in the UK politicians go on about their so called green agenda whilst forcing most freight transport onto overcrowded roads where long queues of stationary traffic pollute towns and cities. The Czech Republic doesn't pretend to do anything it doesn't do, but what it does do it does well 😊.
Like the Standard 5 represented a British steam locomotive, the Kreigsloks represented a typical European steam locomotive, both locomotives are well proportioned and could be found operating all over their respective networks on trains ranging from short passenger workings to heavy freight trains. The Kriegslok and 9F locomotives share a lot in common, they were both designed for easy maintenance and good route availability. It was a really well organised tour and with little traffic on the line, photo run pasts were possible, a really nice touch because all too often passengers on the train don't get to see the train in action.
Hey Tim, I just took the ride the other way 20 minutes ago. I'll bet those 2 10 0s could pull a lot of weight. I just love those steam engines, and narrow gauge.

A Mail from this locomotive is on the way to you. 🍻
Thanks for the Email about German Class 52 locomotives, I look forward to reading it. Cheers. Tim.
Nice folks out there they were waving to us !!! LOL😄
The good folk at 6:37 were pleased to see a steam locomotive 😊.
Nice loco - but a bit of a power overkill - a 9F equivalent for three coaches! Nice to see a run-by for the cameras.
