That gear driven turbine whine is just amazing. I just took my 6th gen on a 6 hour trip around the lakes and my head hurts more from the helmet than than the rest of my body. I can say that its not so fun on bumpy back roads, but that's perfect for the Himalayan.
I've ridden only VFR's as a courier since 87, I need to replace a lot of worn out parts on it. So I bought a used Himalayan while the VFR is down. Big difference, but I dig the lil 411. I plan to keep it since there's a lot of desert to explore here in Southern Calif. You picked the perfect street bike, its power is so linear, you cannot find a better bike to commute and split lanes on all day long year after year. Just keep using a quality motor oil and you too can get about 400,000 miles outta that workhorse. She prefers organic over the synthetics, synthetic makes her shifting just a bit notchy.
I hope you enjoy the himalayan. I miss the vfr. I put it in storage for the winter and have been riding my himalayan. The vfr is great. I think I'll keep it for a while. I'll probably end up trading the himalayan in for a ducati scrambler.
I’ve had 2 Gen 5, still have one, 20k, great shape and great ride. Updated suspension a bit, re-greased and retorqued str.hd bearings, did the brake system, wouldn’t trade it.
Hell yes it does deserve its rep. I had one as a commuting and weekend tool years ago when I was less financially capable. I was forced to sell it when the exhaust rotted and I couldn't afford a new one. It's a bike I always missed. Apart from that it was comfy, sounded mega, had good performance, good fuel range, always started on the button, fuelling was spot on and it shined up wonderfully every time. The VTEC was a big step back, felt bigger, heavier, the engine didn't feel any torquier or more powerful, the VTEC kick was irritatingly placed, it introduced the need to look after Honda's shite CCTs and it just didn't have the same vibe.
I heard that vtec can be a bit dodgy, especially the earlier vtec models. I'm glad I got a gen 5 before vtec. I like it so far. I'm filming a vlog about my first 200-mile ride soon. I am also getting a new end can soon.
Did you actually own a 6th gen VFR or is this the sum of all the misinformation you have found on bikes forums about the 6th gen VFR? I have both 5th and 6th gen, each in excellent condition, low mileages and well looked after. The 6th gen feels more modern, has better std suspension, turns more easily, feels lighter, has better brakes, much better headlights and is easier to ride all day in the saddle. It also looks better imho. It is also faster. When the V-tec kicks in it flies. I find the whine of the gear driven cams of the 5th gen slightly intrusive and irritating although the induction noise on full throttle is great.
The only thing is that this 5th generation didn't come with all the mod cons and fashion the. New bikes came with. So there's all and more after market parts out there man. Yes even a gear indicator you name it. I got this like many semi vintage record players 20 years b4. Replacement for modern road items makes up easily and far more than newer machines and some, ref my modern car with all the modern gadgets. Enjoy this imo and some of the CBF 1000 fa are well the best value for the road ever made. Merry Christmas 🎄
Thanks. I popped into a small, independent motorcycle mechanics and he had plenty of parts. I'm going to get an aftermarket exhaust and probably won't do anything else for a while.

@@EpicAdamMotovlogs an oil and filter is not that difficult, I do my own on the 800 and I am by no means a competent mechanic. VFRs don't over heat if looked after. The manual fan switch would cause me some concern as to why it had been fitted. Has the thermo fan switch failed or do the fans still switch on as they should? The Haynes manual indicates that the fans should come on between 98-102C then off at 93-97C. IIRC the fans on my bike come on at an indicated 102C and off at 94C I can recommend a high level Delkevic stainless steel 350mm oval rear can. Not only does it sound a lot better it is so much lighter than the very heavy std Honda silencer. Be sure to use a rubber bush when mounting it though otherwise you will get lots of vibes through the seat from the engine transmitted along the exhaust and through the mount to the rear subframe and seat. The std silencer has a bush mount but most aftermarket cans have solid mount which is not good.

60 in 3rd? Is it broken? Mine is instant ban speed in 3rd..
Did I say 60 in 3rd? I'm used to the bike now. I know what it's capable of.
@EpicAdamMotovlogs yep, I took it easy on mine for a wee while until I got used to it, but aye, that 3rd gear is a cracker, you can get from diddery town speed to just over 3 figures in an instant. I keep thinking about selling it then I just look at it and change my mind!
The title did kinda give it away 😂
