The original tutorials, for this camera, transformed it from a point-and-shoot bridge to a very portable alternative to my SLRs. Highly recommend anyone reading this, to go to Graham's tutorials and work through them to find that this camera isn't as limited as it first seems. One thing I'd suggest is to lose the fascination with the extreme zoom and not go above about 600!
Thanks for this tutorial. Like many FZ80 owners, I was initially pretty jazzed about the 60X zoom (and I still think it's pretty cool). However, I also want a camera that's going to give me decent images. Your advice helps.
Thank you David attenborough of the camera world. Just got this camera 2 days ago and have sat though alot of your videos Without them I'm sure I would of sent this little gem back. Now to make some videos Thanks Graham
Thanks again for another informative and clear tutorial, and for addressing one of my queries in a previous comment. I personally always travel with 2 cameras the Fz80 and the Lx100 (now mark2) and this combo gives me plenty of opportunities for different conditions without the need to change lenses or carry significant extra weight . What do you think.? Thanks your channel is really invaluable.
Thank you Graham, I am enjoying this series of videos. I am looking forward to the next one because I have just decided to abandon processing raws from my FZ330, it takes me too long and rarely am I happy with the results. I have Photo Styes set up that I like for nature and landscape shots but I can't find something I like for people shots. Using the Standard Photo Style, skin tones don't look right and lips are too purple. The Portrait Photo Style has similar but more pale colours to Standard but also adds the problem of lifting the shadows too much. It will be interesting to see what the FZ80 can do in different situations and how you adjust it to your liking.
By shooting a typical image with RAW and then using the internal RAW processing you can step through and make an adjustment to each of the development parameters and then write out a new JPEG for each setup to see which delivers the best result. You can set these then into your chosen photo style. Any adjustments to WB you might want to make could be saved as a new preset. I'll show this in part 3. I wish I could get the HDMI output to capture this rather than film the camera back but I'm working on a solution.
@@GrahamHoughton12 Thanks Graham, I'll give that a go. Saving to a preset would let me darken the shadows of the portrait photo style with the shadow and highlight control too.
Hello Graham. Thanks for all your videos, your help was very important while i was discovering my fz-300.Maybe you have some info about what we must wait to come from panasocic the following period. An FZ-400 is on their plans? Thanks in advance.Greetings from Greece
Hey Graham, it is amazing series, I learned so much! I was looking for comparison videos of fz80 and fz300 and by accident stumbled on your series. For wildlife videos and photos would you recommend fz80 or fz300? I've found them used in good condition for approximately the same price. I really like the zoom of FZ80, but FZ300 is with better image quality, constant 2.8 aperture and has weather resistance.
I wouldn't hesitate in recommending the FZ300 over the FZ80 as wildlife needs the fast shutter speeds and often shot in lower than normal light. The F2.8 aperture is a big advantage over the FZ80/82 in this respect. You can also use EZ zoom on the FZ300 to increase the reach of the lens if you can manage with a smaller image size other wise i.Zoom up to x 1.7 gives focal lengths approaching that of the FZ80 with equal IQ.
@@GrahamHoughton12 Thank you so much for the thorough answer! I've bought already FZ80, but don't like the jitter when I zoom in while recording video. Will try the FZ300 to see if it is better in this regard and sell the FZ82 or perhaps I will make a comparison between them before that. Anyways I'm buying them used so I'm not losing a load of money on reselling, cheaper than renting them from a shop .
I use mostly .jpg and ISO 80. I have shot images in RAW however, I have limited funds and use Panasonic's own free program, SILKYPIX, give it a try and please comment on what you find.
FZ300 for me would be the obvious choice with better EVF, articulated touch screen and the constant aperture lens. Add the external mic input for better videos.
Hey Graham, I have just started shooting raw files. I had no idea the aspect ratio would be 4.3, and then I would change it. Why should I lower my noise reduction -4 or -5, doesn't it work? Thanks again for another great video, cheers.
In JPEG processing the NR achieves it by slightly blurring the image. The higher the ISO the more the blur is applied. So even at ISO 80 there is some blur. Turn it off (-5) to reduce its effect. Shooting RAW - it doesn't use this anyway as it's only used in JPEG processing. Part 3 will show and explain all of this.
Unfortunately there is no way to output HDMI without being in the replay mode. It would make my life so much easier if I could capture that hdmi for tutorials rather than trying to film the camera back.
I have this camera since it was released (82 ver). It is my current camera. With it i also film my youtube channel videos. One thing that annoys me at this camera is that i cannot make pictures that have the sun in it or strong light sources. When I make photos or videos without zoom they are ok. But when I try just a little zoom my image is compromised by little volet circles (probably the lense glare). The perfect example is this video: ruclips.net/video/FX5MHrlywaY/видео.html. Is there a way to get rid of them? With my Old DMC-LS75 (CCD sensor ) I didn't had this issue in the photo mode (in the video it had the typical line effect) I like to use the sun as a subject or story teller in my photos and videos but this glare is upsetting me.
Don't forget to tell everyone about the rediculousally loose dioptre wheel Graham that needs constant adjustment. ...this totally spoils this camera!!!
@@jlina so you buy a brand new camera and you have to purchase additions to add to the camera to make it usable or wedge a piece of thin card down the side of the dioptre wheel to stop it moving......I think not Graham!!

I''m glad to learn from these "revisited" videos for fz80. Thank you.
Glad you like them and more information to follow.
I appreciate how you used the viewer comments from part 1 of this series in this part 2 tutorial.
I thought that they were relevant in this case. thanks for the reply.
After watching your original videos, I bought this camera. Thank you.
Thanks so much for this new series of tutorials, they are so helpful and neccesary to get good images.

Really help with all your videos...thank you for the promo!
Can this camera be good enough in recording birds for beginners... Only for identification purposes not for quality birds images or video??

Hi Graham FZ300 or FZ80 which one would you recommend?
Hi Graham
I am in Australia, how do i get your FZ80 book
Mr. Houghton, I have a FZ 80. What size lens hood should I purchase for this camera?

Many thanks, really appreciated.
I just ordered this camera. Would it be good for portraits?

Getting good stills with this camera is tricky but the video quality is top notch. Often stills taken from a 4K video look better than photos.
Graham, I am looking to buy one camera for general purpose travel photography. In your opinion, which is the more suitable, the FZ 80 or the FZ 300?
