Ralph, the Brooklyn Bridge, is built around properties that are much closer than the hotel in question. Even train lines are built very close to buildings.

That's how it's is done in the USA,and stop talking about what you don't know. You are doing a good job so far except for assuming.

Hi Guy I must say that you are doing good thing show casing what is happening, but you must also call out the stupidness of a few people aslo like the guy you just pass selling on the middle of the road way,, why did you not call him for his stupidness or his stupidity? Government and city's does the same thing all over the world so its no different in Guyana.

There are bridges that are built over properties throughout the world. I think the properties on the East Bank end of the bridge will not be affected since the bridge will pass over the properties as well as the east bank road. Only some properties in Nandy Park are affected.

It is common practice for governments to acquire private properties in order to construct public infractures. The owners of properties are normal compensated .However a previous government had changed the law to provide compensation only at 1939 values thus robbing the owners. This has now been removed and government is prepared to pay market values.
While most owners have accepted the valuation some are holding on for higher compensation hence the impasse. As I understand it government wishes to have access to the properties while the matter of compensation is settled by the court, and the moneys are deposited for later upliftmentt. Some owners have approached the court to have compensation settled and paid before they remove. The owners of all properties are being given lands, houses etc as alternatives so they can benefit. One judge has ruled in favour of government while another is saying that payment must be received before removal. Here lies the conundrum.

Ain’t the pillars part of the bridge? Why are we nitpicking about these stuff? If a prison, a dump site, a cemetery and etc. got to be built. Most people don’t want those things to be built in their neighborhoods but it got to be built in somebody’s neighborhood or it will never get built, then the county will suffer. If oil gush out of the ground in Georgetown or they discover oil in the middle of Georgetown, some things got to move because oil is more important financially to a country developed than not moving those things. The country of Guyana interests comes first over any individual Guyanese.

Raphael if possible you show see if any of the displaced homeowners whose properties are being expropriated, would consent to an interview with you. They can do the interview without you showing their face. Might be worth a try.

Shouldn't all this be a matter of published record once it's done? I don't see why there would be prolonged speculation. Individual property values would be assessed by qualified surveyors I expect. I wouldn't personally venture a guess as to the grand total for all the payments. Time will tell.

The politicians like to lie and hide information about how tax payers money is being spent so that corruption and theft does not become public. If the public knows the true cost of this infrastructure then they may want to know more details about who is paid for what services or property. Hence this information is not published or made public by the government. That is why its necessary to make this type of video. All that I said about how the bridge traffic exhaust gases will affect the remaining properties and buildings like the hotel, should have been part of the environmental impact assessment which should have been published and made available to the public. But saying it here makes the pppc supporters accuse me of being politically biased. However this is just an objective analysis of the bridge project.

The Chinese loan us 161 million usd , the government put in 100 million usd to build this bridge.
50 homes at an average price of 250 000 usd will cost the government around 25 million usd because some homes will carry a little more value. And the two highways shcoonard to crane 75 million usd, and the heroes highway 130 million usd. So to build this bridge will cost tbe government less than 500 million usd. Not a billion USD.

Under the freedom of information act, you can probably acquire all the financial data for this project.
Departments of Transportation in North America has accumulated a lot of projects data, and these types of enquiries are usually provided with factual data.
Construction and engineering estimates are also based on DOT data bases.
There is a whole profession surrounding this type of discussion.
Obviously the procurement model used was design build and financing.
The Chinese designed building and financing the bridge and I believed the tender prices were published in the news a few years ago.
Wrt over runs, well there usually are over runs, and all claims have to be verified and certified by the relevant expert specialists. Usually by "change orders" during construction.
The CA will present any such case for approval to the owners' project manager.
