Zakat is the proportion of a Muslim’s wealth that is entitled to others in order to cleanse his/her wealth. This video explores whether the beneficiaries of zakat must only be Muslims, referring to both primary and secondary sources of Islamic jurisprudence. Examples of actions from the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad and his Companions, as well as the policy positions of the Caliph Umar are described in order to reconcile differing views among Muslim scholars.
