And the term you were looking for to describe how it the song is feeling is probably more like a secular 90s r&b vibe. Both her and her sisters are pioneers for that. Contemporary gospel is the term I believe.
And the choir backing her is Donald Lawrence’s choir, The Tri-City Singers. He’s directing in this video and has been working closely with The Clark Sisters for decades now. Karen is outta this world with the anointing on her voice..Twinkie, Dorinda Jacky and even Denise are all bad too but Karen Clark Sheard is something special to me. I have found you and been watching video after video. I am enjoying first of all my sisters and brothers in Christ praise and worshipping but also your reaction. The words you put to how it makes you feel is so real I can see it and feel the same way most times.
We cannot react to Karen Clark-Sheard or her sisters without mentioning their mother the late great Dr. Mattie Moss-Clark. Without her we would not have this powerhouse gospel group. Matter of fact we wouldn't have modern day 3-part choirs without Dr. Clark. I listen to The Clark Sisters every single morning before I start my day.

The Clark Sisters, seriously. There is absolutely no artist like them. I saw them 'live' and the energy is something else. Karen in particular, her gift, there is resolutely no one on the planet with her gift. If you are able to listen to the album 'Conquer'. Of their many records, one of their best... I call the two songs on the album, the COVID-19 Pandemic songs. Jesus Forevermore and Can't Get Enough Of Your Love 1988, the words are as relevant today. And finally, Computers Rule The World... 1988 vision of the future. Exexquisite, and Outstanding. Grammy awards should be awarded to vintage records, this would win in its category.

U was trying to say that it sounds like A lot of R&B and urban influenced pop. This would make since because Gospel music has had a huge influence on R&B . Soul music is R&B mixed with Gospel technique. U can thank Aretha Franklin for making Gospel singing Techniques popular in R&B. If u listen to Aretha Franklin’s Amazing Grace album u can hear alot of Classic R&B runs from both her and Rev. James Cleveland. K-ci who is considered the most influential male R&B singer from the 90’s got his singing style from James Cleveland.
I forget that people aren't used to this type of singing. Like if you grew up in church there are regular people that sing great on Sundays. I'm from New Jersey maybe I'm biased.
That was recorded in 97...she's still singing that song in 2024 and is still smashing it! It's a classic remake.
So happy to see you enjoying what I grew up on!! I was in the audience this was in The hometown of The Clark Sisters in Detroit Michigan at Bailleys Cathedral if I remember correctly. The Clark Sisters are Phenomenal, Gifted and Anointed and loved by millions. They were vocally trained by their mother The Late Great Dr. Mattie Moss Clark. This entire album that "Balm in Gilead" is from is AMAZING! From top to bottom. The crazy part is, this is a cover of The Clark sisters song "Balm in Gilead" the original is just as good! One day we'll see a "Finally Karen" full album review! A particular song from that album call "Holy thou art holy" is stellar! It sounds like it could of been sung at carnagie hall or any other famous opera house.
