“The vision was to ease traffic congestion and, in turn, sustain and even boost the economic growth that Davao City has been enjoying in the past years until today… We expect this already to provide some relief to Mindanaoans, especially those who wish access to downtown Davao,” remarked President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. when he led the inauguration of the Davao City Coastal Bypass Road (Segment A).
With the objective of making progress more inclusive through a highly interconnected network, the President further emphasized how the said coastal road project will provide support in the economic development of the City and convenience to its people, particularly in transporting goods and making basic necessities more accessible for communities and businesses.
“Add to that, the fact that this will also form as a protection against storm surges. This project of the Department of Public Works and Highways is indeed anchored in well-thought-out master plans,” he said, acknowledging the DPWH and its development partners, including the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), for their collective efforts and continued assistance in improving the country’s infrastructure.
“As the national government remains committed to pursuing high-impact connectivity projects with you, I hope that you will all bear in mind this one thing: The fruit of your labors are the building blocks of the bright and sustainable society that our children will enjoy,” President Marcos Jr. ended in his message.
The Davao City Coastal Bypass Road Project aims to strengthen Davao City’s road network in meeting traffic demands, promote suburban development and decongest the City center. It will also serve as an alternative route to Davao-Cotabato Road and ABS-CBN Diversion Road to ease traffic congestion from the Central Business District in the area. The Segment A inaugurated today covers the coastal lines of Bago Aplaya-Times Beach Section (Talomo-Matina).
Vice President Sara Duterte, Senator Imee Marcos, DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Secretary Antonio Lagdameo Jr. and Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte are among the attendees in the event.
