Welcome to the Chivalry 2 Weapon Academy! Today we're going to learn all about the Katar. What are the best ways to use this weird dual-wielding weapon? Whether it be the odd double attack special or the curved overhead, there is tons to learn about the Katars.

This guide is somewhat outdated. Here's what's changed as of Update 2.8:
- Headbutt sped up to jab speed (still has no jab collision and cannot be feinted to)
- Leaping Strike buffed to 60 damage
- Special no longer deals damage on the second strike if the first strike is blocked
- Passive stamina drain reduced
It's still dogshit though. If the hit detection was better it'd be just "ok".

It's mainly a team game so a katars user deal with ganks all the times, as any other class. That requires a lot of dashes, countermeasures and faints. Nonsense that weapon even consume stamina in this cases being worse than a knife once you can't even run away without map or team assistance. The low damage makes a balanced 1v1 so long that almost every 1x1 transforms into a 1x2+ and katars user die resisting an unstoppable rate of attacks what likely broke the weapon in the next second.
The only dish for katars users are archery classes who are as unprotected as them and a backstabbing special attack pretty hitkills them. But you know what?! Any other class does the same thing, even archery, so still non sense.
Katars are different in the way you play but have no difference among other weapons, who perform better doing the same thing and mostly important: with less skill training. This weapon isn't a glass cannon, is a garanted lose in all meanings. Clearly it needs an adjustment... more damage n less speed, reducing stamina cosumption to the lowest possible or make it interrupt attacks as any other weapon idk it needs an "extra something" rather than being fast
@@HenriqueMenanithey should at least make it have a bit backstab bonus damage (in addition to the class) or let heavy hits interrupts attacks. That weapon is basically like fighting with only a shield and no right arm.

I have been loving your whole coaching series. I’ve always been the type who loves to understand mechanics and then try to implement that knowledge into the game. I’m definitely excited for the weapon academy and what is still to come.

Katar deserves at least a minor buff
A major buff is definitely needed. I just want them to buff the leaping strike and reduce the stamina drain debuff.

This is the one weapon i just cant seem to get down, one thing I would add is pick up a shield and wear it on your back for protection

The worst thing about the katars, imo, is the 77 lvls needed to get the max skin, when other weapons have way lower lvls. The 77 lvl skin doesn't look even look good, I think the emerald one looks the best, but that is still like 25 or something. Crowns are like required to unlock the katars' different styles.
Other than that, I find the weapon fun, tho I dislike playing ambusher. Each time I find the weapon on the ground as another class, I always take it.
All valid points. I wish there was a more European style skin to earn.
Tbh I don’t know why rapier stabs aren’t this fast, the rapier feels like I should just be using a messer instead
All katars need is hit stun. If a dagger can hit stun someone then there’s no reason why the katars can’t either

After the update i think katars are fine where they are, if you have a good understanding of things like counters, footwork, and jabs then youll do pretty well.
The biggest things they needed was better tracers, better recovery, and less stam drain and they did all of those things

I love the Katars, they are my second most played weapon in the game. I play 3rd person in TO matches and had a hard time aiming with the katars that way at first, feel like it was a bigger challenge to adapt.
A good way to counter katar users
keep close to them and then cricle them in the right direction. And repost every time they stab.

The katars are kind of insane now after the new buff and i havent seen anyone make new content covering that fact. Maybe you could make an update! They still arent the best weapon but theyre definitely serviceable, have had several top scores with them and even almost got 100 takedowns yesterday.
If I weren't working on other videos, I would probably cover them. I'm very happy with the buff.

make guide on how to do skirmisher dash ive seen it done somehow using javelin special and crouch launching through half of the map i didnt manage to do it a single time no matter what i did
That was an exploit that has since been patched

Hi! I am recently dedicating myself to git guud with katars. Because i really want that lvl 22 skin, and wanna in-head RP the Hashashin I always wanted to be.
This guide is helpfull even if it's outdated.
However there is a few thinks I disagree with.
I find the Leaping strike extremely good. The Sprint-special attack has a very wide arc, although it only hits 1 target. But does 90 Backstab-Damage. Enough to 1 hit kill archers from the back.
I find this to be a incredible good opener, also it's Cooldown is not shared with the regular Special attack, so yo can quickly follow up with a Special attack that interrupt the enemie strike.
The sprint special attack is also pretty hilarious as if you manage to KO people with the attack, you send them flying into space. (Physics I guess?)
now I'll admit I am not the greatest player, and I loose out on duels aganst a descent player who does more than just swinging a 2handed around blindly.
But I'm to rack up a considerable amount of kills with it in normal 64v64 battles.
As long as I can avoid getting ganged up, I usually get out of there pretty intact and ready to jump on the next unsuspecting target.
My biggest problem with the Katar, and it is what I struggle with is Accuracy.
I find it incredible hard to hit targets, especially if they have descent footwork and know that there is such thing as Dodging.
Another thing I have issues with is that the "horizontal" attacks are off-center.
Meaning I have to aim slightly Left or Right on the target depending on which arm I attack with.This leads to a lot of follow up attacks missing annoyingly in heat of combat. Especially in a 1vX situation.
I also feel that the Attacks "locks" your aim straight foreward, being able to Drag or Delay your strikes, or keep on a target that is just moving normally side to side.
Do you have any advice for this?
Regarding the leaping strike, at the time this video was made it had reduced range and only did 30 damage. This was pitifully useless.
As for the accuracy issue, the reason it is hard to land your taxes because the turn cap is very strict. You'll need to aim where you want to strike before attacking to minimise misses. Then you should do better. I would also consider attacking at a closer range which should help as well.

One thing I started to do is to initiate fights with throwing daggers before swapping over to Katars, especially in a crowd fight. Weakening the targest before engaging with katars. Do notice that pulling up katars seems to be a bit faster than regular weapons? I don't feel like theres any issue of someone comes at you with a swing and you hold block while pulling up the katars.
@@Kameeho the speed at which you pull out weapons or pick them up from the ground is depending on how fast the weapon is. Because Katars are so fast, you draw them fast
@@SoterDave that explains a lot. Then the technique of just running with your throwing knives and secondary weapon up is ideal in situations you can't get your momentum up for the leap strike, and just swap over to katars once you get into the fight. Gotta use the whole arsenal of the ambusher in order to make those ideal engagement for the Katars to shine.

Hey guys, is this guide still optimal? I really like the Katars and im newer but they are extremely difficult. Is there any hope to being decent with them?
To a degree, yes. I would say the advice given here still will help you, but some specifics on stats and stuff have changed
Are you gonna post an update to this video when the new update comes out cause of the buffs? Or is it not enough change to warrant one.
Although this video is technically outdated, it should still stand the test of time. The general gameplay with Katar have not changed significantly
Hes right that the gameplay with katars hasnt changed much but overall they are MUCH better. They changed a ton of stuff with it, kind of sad soter isnt planning on making a vid covering it because its definitely way better now

If backstabs did double the normal damage the weapon would work better.
Even then, it'd be meh

I can, but I am not nearly as proficient in Mordhau and I do not play it competitively. Because of this, I do not believe I am qualified to coach anyone beyond a total noob in Mordhau.
