3:57 I always loved that background music. It's very 80s, but that's what I loved about it. It makes me feel like I'm moving. Like I'm getting somewhere.
@@TerrickTerran And I’m aware how unfortunate it was, for MASK fans, that the computer was gone, by season 2 (the racing season, which fans *detested*). I’m aware Alex Sector’s occupation was a pet shop owner, but I imagine (my favourite season 2 character, definitely allegiance to MASK) Ali Bombay’s occupation being a Pujari, where he owns a Parish.
Not always, though...there have been many episodes where only Sato & Alex get called, in which you could tell it's going to be a boring episode if it's only those two.
Its actually happening as a deal between Hasbro and Paramount been stuck that will see them explore some of Hasbro's less well known properties including MASK, if anything, it should beat the hell out of the GI Joe movies and maybe Micheal Bay TF movies but we'll find out in a few years
@@CarenConner I think because the last Gi Joe movie, pretty much bombed it likely got scrapped and a lot has happened since that post was written, 6 years ago and Paramount is trouble due to a lot of stupid choices and not making as much money at the box office while Hasbro also having problems from relying to heavily upon Disney own properties to surport them and now that those properties are failing, they are in trouble as well, plus I think the current people in charge of Hasbro, aren't even looking at their domant properties
When Alex Sector thinks 'their masks are protecting him, as well as the other good characters, from its effect', this made me think that people who still had their eyes exposed had to *stay away* from the TV (since Alex Sector, and all the other good characters, have their eyes obscured, by their masks, which protects them from getting hypnotised by the TV's effects). The TV (and its hypnotic effects) are how this episode got its *name* (and, obviously, 'VENOM' because it was them - the villains - who had this scheme of using a TV, for hypnosis).
shermanvermin76 the masks may have HUD’s that interfere with the hypnotic patterns or they might be operating in a different visual mode. I think they had an episode of X-files like that, where Mulder wasn’t affected by the TV’s in a town because he had partial color blindness. Either that or they’re desensitized to it because the MASK central HQ computer uses the same pattern as a screen saver.
I’m aware these are both old comments but my two favourite members of VENOM are Miles Mayhem and Sly Rax. Does anyone like Miles Mayhem’s *Buzzard* outfit? (which he wore in season 2 - the racing season) And what about Miles Mayhem’s VENOM’s Revenge gear? (I’m aware he never wore it in the cartoon, but he would have had there been a season 3). I did, once, see something about how a third season was planned, but, obviously, cancelled (and no, no footage exists - it’s only ever been mentioned).
7:14 I always found it funny how the MASK agents just carelessly leave their duties and just race off to HQ without taking the time to carefully sort things out before leaving. I mean I think we can probably guess what that kid does as soon as Hondo tells him to go to the principal's office. I'm pretty sure he didn't do as he was told.
I grew up watching this show and always wonder about how can all these adults just walk out on there jobs especially Hondo who is a teacher to go into action as a MASK agent. I am sure having a leader like Matt who is as rich as Bruce Wayne comes in handy.
I always imagined that after the mission is completed, the summoned agents returned to their jobs and give other people the classic excuse "I left the iron on".
Never, never did i hear a iconic line such as Jhon Paul Jones's on a cartoon today. Mask and other cartoons of the same era have a brute story about them that not all fights where won by the good guys, but dispite the losses, they kept fighting- to save the day Mask cartoons have a place in my history
"Trakker gathers a group of friends who, like himself, possess extraordinary talents and creates M.A.S.K. (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand)." Hmm, Matt seems to have all the powers of Bruce Wayne=D, i.e. Extreme wealth.
Quite a plan from Mayhem & VENOM. Anigrav solution at the former bridge, and what a close call in the end. Can't believe they took the laser apart & reassembled it. 😅Fun ep.
The biggest glitch in this series is in the opening. We see Hondo in a car that he does not get till later in the first season. He starts off with firecracker and one version of Blaster mask, after firecracker was destroyed by venom he gets Night stalker aka Hurricane as it was called when the toy version came out. He even got a new suit for the toy but he never wears it in the series. He even got the mask he is showing wearing which also has blaster power.
At 9:50 you can see a motorcycle mounted on the tailgate of Firecracker. However it is gone (forever) the next time we see Firecracker! We never see it in any other episode either (unless I missed something). I guess the animators were lazy? Much easier to *not* draw a motorcycle (especially if it doesn't serve the plot).
Here is another little flaw in this episode. How can venom destroy a Texas oil field if the town they took over is in Colorado. Seeing that, that is where mask headquarters is set.
When the computer listed her as part of the mission it said "gator copilot." They used old footage for that scene but they couldn't have shark in the rest of the episode because it wasn't supposed to be there.
If you notice there are only about 7 seats in the command center and we will usually see 4 agents selected. Sometimes less then 7 will be selected for a mission. In the first few episodes there was sometimes one chair empty. As this season roles on we meet even more agents.
The absolute greatest thing about this cartoon was the voice acting. It's SO bad at times that you honestly don't know if you're watching a parody or not. It's like the voice acting in those re-dubbed GI Joe PSAs. It's so bad that it's awesome. "I don't understand it. I don't understand. Don't understand." God, I love this show so much :)
Matt: “why did you put my son on the mission roster?!” Computer: “Mission analysis: he keeps showing up anyway, even when complying with parental orders. Recommendation: supply with mask tactical weapon and combat suit, at least he will have body armor.” If they ever make a live action version, the computer had better be GLaDOS.
Or MD Geist! I know that Brad's hair was miscolored. But when I see him with a blonde mullet and sunglasses, I see MD Geist. And that came out the same decade as this show!
I’m aware, at the time this show was made, Hasbro didn’t own it (Kenner did) [this show was never owned by Claster, given that it, at least at the time, wasn’t made by Hasbro, and only shows by Hasbro were owned by Claster]. By the time this show (rhyme unintended) joined G.I. Joe, Claster had long ended (this show - same rhyme unintended - possibly joined G.I. Joe, owing to Hasbro now owning Kenner).
This is one of the very few episodes (possibly the only season 1 episode) to have Miles Mayhem even at the very end (he even has his mask on, in the episode, right up until then) [when, usually, by the end of the episodes, him, and the other villains, would have been defeated].
18:26 to 18:35 As all the lasers and explosions are going off, you can faintly hear incoherent gibberish in the background! What were the voice actors doing?
What always annoyed me about this show was that despite all the lasers flamethrowers and missiles used NOBODY EVER GETS HURT. Its ridiculous and it reminds me of the tv show the a team. I mean why doesent the stiletto mask guy just headshot the tv station workers instead of wasting all that ammo to pin them to the ground by their clothes. And the people standing on the rail track? How the hell was that train able to stop that fast? I would have loved to see some body parts flyin'
*I* like him (he's now my only favourite villain in this, whereas Alex Sector's now my only favourite good character in this). I'm aware fans of this love Miles Mayhem's Switchblade outfit (although I additionally like his Buzzard and, even though this outfit never appeared in the cartoon - his 'VENOM's Revenge' outfit, since his Switchblade outfit made him look like a General, his Buzzard outfit made him look like a Colonel, and his VENOM's Revenge outfit - one of the four 'MASK Adventure Packs', made him look like a Sergeant) [though I definitely only like Alex Sector's season 1 outfit, where he's the owner of Boulder Hill, and, vehicles-wise - quoting the MASK computer - the 'Rhino systems commander'].
I’m aware this is an old comment - I wouldn’t be surprised if people say he looks like Saddam Hussein (though he doesn’t look like Osama Bin Laden). He does remind me of soldiers (especially when his first outfit - this one - where he’s the driver of Switchblade, makes him look like a General, whereas his Buzzard outfit - which he wears in the racing season, makes him now look like a Colonel; his VENOM’s Revenge outfit makes him look like a Sergeant). I remember a MASK comic where Miles Mayhem found a way to duplicate himself, so that all three of his outfits could now co-exist - you know what that would be like, for MASK! This show was like a cross between Knight Rider, Air Wolf, A Team, MacGyver, transformers, and a forerunner to both Team Knight Rider and Viper 🤩
Id say more Knight Rider,Airwolf,Street Hawk ,Highwayman and Transformers and Viper(90s)
It has a Sci Fi image.
