The Real Streets Of Sarasota, Florida ~ MLK X Newtown Hoods 2022 ~ Homelessness X Gentrification

- While Sarasota is known for wealth and opulence, there are regular neighborhoods. Gentrification is slowly pushing the working class out as well. These are the real streets of Sarasota, an amazing city.
I was in St. Augustine a week ago. There were many homeless on the streets where the shops and restaurants are located downtown. I passed a man with his shirt off, he was very thin, he had sores all over his body. I was shocked and I passed him without stopping. I felt so bad after. I cannot believe this is America.
"republican america".....
The greatest and richest country on earth.
@@phillc1073 you made it political.. perfect example of American
@@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS Florida's unrelenting archenemy has always been the carpetbagger; those individuals and corporate entities that seek to pillage and degrade our beautiful landscape for individual or personal gain. From the Reconstruction era through to present day, Florida continues to suffer from their self-serving schemes that are all too often aided and abetted by our own government officials. In this episode, we look at a recent example as well as see a few past instances where they descended upon the peninsula en mass as we examine some of the state's rich agricultural history and how that applies to our Cowhunters Unlimited specialty foods.

I live here, there’s a homeless shelter in that area which is why there’s so many homeless. And newtown has transformed from what it used to be. It’s getting so much cleaner and safer.
great area were near lakewood and i love it here. came up after ian destroyed our hometown FORT MYERS .. its hood there tho... simular to bradenton
@@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS yeah I love how convenient we are to the beaches and pretty much anywhere else in Florida!

let me just say, after seeing all the fancy stuff out here it was sobering to see REAL STREETS and that not everyone out here is rich its serious situations going on in the Tampa bay area.
Hey are you from the area I'm in Bradenton and I'm trying to start my RUclips channel
Can you cover the Ochechobee lake, and it's past hauntings there, I really think once this lake gets flooded, it's the end of the southernm part of Florida. This lake is really an ocean, it's always with lots of pesticides and strange stuff inside this lake. Go over there and cover this lake. This will flood by 2025. End of southern Florida.
Use your street smarts. Tampa bay. Pirate Area.
@@antraviawoods1898 we out here now cuz Fort Myers got so messed up with the hurricane. I need to drop some videos on how to be a good youtuber... but i will be honest you just gotta start upload and if your want the internet needs you will get views. its absolutely unpredictable i have uploaded close to 5,000 views over the years and NOT ONE has been a "viral" overnight nit.. this is a SLOW and steady race you in it for MANY YEARS and expect MANY disappointments and hate on a level you cant imagine its as much a bless as a curse if you do make it.
@@Maayraa111 were a TRAVEL and vibes channel. we have done videos all over the lake and the towns around it tho
If ever hard times fell on me I believe Florida would be better place to be homeless in winter.
To get away from the cold.
We have humid heat and wet cold.
Until you get there
Same with California homless like warmer climates but that's only part of the problem. Compared to northern states Florida lacks shelters. Heck if I was homless I'd go to Michigan they put homeless in hotels there easily. In Florida it's a lottery to get any type of shelter because there is just too many homeless and too little funds to help them.
Florida is hot and humid as hell the heat index is 20 degrees higher than the actual temperature even at night not to mention its infested with mosquitos. California would be much better weather wise especially san diego.
Excellent video. Silent and profound. You let us use our own eyes, rather than cluttering it up with talk.
I like some commentary
The POS car made plenty of noise
Driving through Sarasota now and it's actually really nice
I am retired living in Sarasota. Was a over the road trucker for 42 years, been in many towns and cities nation wide. Living in Sarasota since 2012, trust me there's no place like Sarasota, it is the best. The State of Florida is so Blessed to have Governor Ron DeSantis! Wouldn't want to live anywhere else!
Love Our Governor ! ❤
In 2012 DeSatanis wasn't Gov and basically has nothing to do with how great SRQ is or is not. Quite frankly when I moved to SRQ in 2004 it was a lot better than it is now.
@@acbrown You should of seen it in 1967, when I came here and never left.
@@acbrown Back in 2012 it was a lot better every where in America then it is now. In 2021 I traveled extensively through 21 states, trust me Florida stands out, just being truthful!
@@jonassommers8753Not even sure why you posted that comment...it's nonsense.
I have lived in Sarasota for 26 years and I can tell you it is a beautiful. Like all cities it has it's uglier parts but you must know where they're located or you must search very hard to find them
Some many homeless everywhere wait till diesel hits 15 a gallon situation will increase 30 to 40 percent dollar is dead. This was all done in purpose. The dollar topped its about to drop this ain't the worst of it hang in there
Its so surreal watching you go through my city lol
😊 i am just a regular guy. SWFL is home.
@@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS Yeah, I have been watching your channel for 3 or 4 months now, checking out different towns in Georgia. So it was just unexpected.
@@briana656 we had to get out of fort myers its a mess down there
I am sure COVID created a large increase in the homeless population and that the greed in US housing market and apartment rentals has played a role. But I also think that our newer generations thinks that its ok not to work hard, that its ok to be fat, that its ok live in your parent’s basement at 30, 40, etc. I dont mean that we should make fun of anyone that is have difficult times in our lives. We should help if we can. Having homeless on the streets of America is unacceptable.
I have lived in Sarasota 39 years and Sarasota likes hiding their homeless for no one to see. It's a wealthy city that is for the rich only.
yup
It seems very clean compared to New York City. I only saw to home less.
Ive lived here since 1967, its a very clean town. This vid showed the black communities, not really the homeless areas..
Sarasota is probably one of the cleanest cities in USA and i love it here. And the black area is very nice as well
This video is not representative of Sarasota, FL. Yes, we have some poorer neighborhoods, and for those, mostly out-of-town homeless the City does provide support and assistance
YEP I WAS HOMELESS IN SARASOTA 💔😔
there seams to be a strong bond with the homeless here that i dont see elsewhere
ok, so why don"t you tell others how you changed that and perhaps you could spread some hope for the sick and suffering! Because if you want it to change..you have to change!
@@momckenna2695 thanks mom
Cool video 🔥🔥
It doesn't look like anyone is on the streets of Sarasota.. Even paying customers.. What day and time did you film this, what's the reason for lack of people on the street.. No one couldn't stay in business for long.. Not even Ringling Brothers could stay in business for long with this foot traffic or lack of it..
Because its all old people and fat and lazy people who sit inside all day. This guy is so soft he thinks this is the "hood"😂😂😂
Buddy in the hood you have multiple gang members hanging out infront of abandoned houses and selling on every corner, ATVs and dirtbikes on the streets people screaming, music blasting, tires screeching gunshots etc......... This is not "the streets"
Not much happening on the streets of this vids, this was mostly the black community housing areas.
Sarasota is usually quiet other than on holidays/ 2 months of busy snowbird season, and Friday/Saturday 6pm- midnight.
It's HOT out, we're inside with the a\c! 🙂
Bro the traffic sucks he’s just on back streets
I grew in Sarasota I'm 27 and I use to pass by them all the time and too see that it gotten this bad sucks to see .
You never realize how miserable sota is until you leave. Florida as a whole is a melting pot of the most miserable people in the country.
The average person i talked to even in time square seemed to be less angry and argumentative than a Floridaian.
No mention of the names of the streets you are driving ?
Newtown area

Is it hot and humid always there? Are there homeless in Sarasota?
even in the wintertime it can be unbearable
Alot of them but the politicians try keeping them out of sight for the snowbirds and tourists.
The heat is unbearable from July through October.
yes, except in the winter and yes

Lived I. Sarasota for 51 years a great city. Report the proper truthful news, not lies.
This is NOT what most of Sarasota looks like! You must have really gone out of your way to search for the "ugly" parts of Sarasota (EVERY city has undesirable area's) It is a clean, beautiful city with lots of things to do! It's one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S.!! So what's your point to all of this?!
We show the good and the bad, all of it. No need to hide the worst
This makes me feel homesick for some reason, I don't recognize any of these streets of course because I'm from California. They have almost ruined my state over the last 50 years. I don't think we have very many California natives left here. The corrupt politicians here created a homeless explosion, they create the problem so they can pretend to fix it. I'm not ready to leave my state ☹️ but there's so much corruption here.
Florida isn’t what it used to be as well… they just painted a different picture for political purposes same problem different people its all going to crap its not one party or the next go to Alabama if you think all red states are great its a baby California
I have always said florida and California are similar in so many ways
Just not enough placeis to stay it's a problem in that part of the country 🙄
our housing building is going crazy right now and tons of people move here everyday.
Just no place for the poor.
Yo!! Be careful man!! You are driving very fast and I am like pressing the Damm break!!
He’s definitely not 😂 you a turtle
Well if you are going to be homeless might as well pick a warm state! Also it should have good welfare system 😉🏖La Floride est votre premier choix pour être sans-abri
not my state LOL
@@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS People are just like rats 🐀! Free food and they will come !!! Record amount of companies looking for help there is no reason to be homeless 🏡🛏 😉😉😉. PS vote 🗳 for me 😄
Zero MediCaid expansion, children on Medicaid with no Dental coverage, draconian qualifications for MediCaid,Food Stamps, cap on Fed funded Chips for kids, segregated high crime hoods with landlords only renting to specified races(code word is "high crime" ie:"you don't sound like a "high crime person" so I am not comfortable renting to you").

If you were trying to show the homeless in Sarasota, you missed the mark. There's not a soul on the streets in this video.
This video wasn’t about that, its a drive around video
@@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS ok ..I missed that mark, but I certainly don't think this drive around showed Sarasota, one way or the other
@@acbrown Swing and a miss. Strikeout.
Even as a floridian I always was told Sarasota is so nice and perfect. Obviously it's far from perfect the way they advertise it as. I mean it's not horrible but at least parts of it look pretty shady for sure!!!
I have lived here since 1967, The areas you have just seen are the general black community areas.
Its not really where the homeless live. Many of the homeless live in the downtown area and the older part of the town.
Bradenton has all groups and its very interesting to see this metro area. i think here truely it doenst matter. Some places its WAY worst. starting to like this area.
@@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS Yeah, Bradenton is very different than Sarasota. This is one of the nicest places on the the planet to live.
I used to live close to Newtown
In spite of the neighborhoods, they all seem to have newer cars
@@GREEKGODDESSFLA in sarasota even the poor people get to the money.
@@GREEKGODDESSFLA i made the same observation keep in mind this area money moves and the rich people try to let the money tickle down
Yeah right! They drive new cars because they sell drugs. The Rich are perennial drug addicts. It's the Perfect Storm of Supply and Demand.
Where are the people?
In their homes and at jobs and in school
There are only a very few spots in Sarasota where you see any people outside. Everyone is driving everywhere. The Main Street downtown and some areas near there, but it’s really not a “walkable” city, and also it’s incredibly hot unless it’s in winter, so seeing nobody on the streets is pretty common.
My life long friend lives by Booker. What a freakin dump...
Why you driving fast?
Not at all! Actually driving too slow! Its the angle of the camera being mounted very low towards the ground.
I am not a fan of driving videos
Sorry, We upload a wide array of content so please stick with us. But driving videos are important for GROWING the channel and some people need it. I hate that's its gotta be that way Keith. We do all types of content but we have to drop alot of these if were gonna be able to stay long term.
Sarasota was never a hood and now it is becoming a really great place.
i love it here
I live in Sarasota, and we try to avoid driving down MLK. And prefer not to rent houses on that side.
Unfortunately Florida has been a Staple for the Transit's. It warm and They know a lot of people from the North visit for the winter months. Watch your family and your back.
shame on Governor Desantis, he never speaks about this nor does anything to help them
There are homeless people all over the world
dont worry, this isnt really about homeless, you just took a tour thru the black communities. Most of the areas are very old, but they are not all homeless.
The homeless community does not live in that area.
Our local Gov does renovations and improvements in their areas.
This video doesn't represent the city as a whole and is misleading. The two blocks shown in this video near the salvation army have nothing to do with the governor. Context is important.
@@jeffa4133this video wasn’t for Sarasota as a whole
Next time show us the fake streets please.
this was the older sections of the black communities. Thats normal for those areas. Sarasota still has some old areas, not all are black communities, some are quite old and nice.
I live in one and my house was made in 1947. Was a very nice neighborhood back in the old days. Today its a lower working class, family, multi cultural hood.

I grew up in Sarasota, in the 80's. It was always diverse, I had friends from all groups and I'm half Puerto Rican myself. I loved growing up there. We were poor, didn't have a\c, our rental house was falling apart around us... But Sarasota was a great place to grow up, my family is still there, I just moved a little further south. Our current neighborhood is diverse as well, which was something I missed when I lived up north for a few years. My childhood neighborhood is one of the older ones in srq, not far from where this video was taken. My bike may have been stolen, but all the neighbors chipped in to help my mom get me a new one. It was a good place.
