  • While Sarasota is known for wealth and opulence, there are regular neighborhoods. Gentrification is slowly pushing the working class out as well. These are the real streets of Sarasota, an amazing city.

I was in St. Augustine a week ago. There were many homeless on the streets where the shops and restaurants are located downtown. I passed a man with his shirt off, he was very thin, he had sores all over his body. I was shocked and I passed him without stopping. I felt so bad after. I cannot believe this is America.

@@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS Florida's unrelenting archenemy has always been the carpetbagger; those individuals and corporate entities that seek to pillage and degrade our beautiful landscape for individual or personal gain. From the Reconstruction era through to present day, Florida continues to suffer from their self-serving schemes that are all too often aided and abetted by our own government officials. In this episode, we look at a recent example as well as see a few past instances where they descended upon the peninsula en mass as we examine some of the state's rich agricultural history and how that applies to our Cowhunters Unlimited specialty foods.

Heck if I was homless I'd go to Michigan they put homeless in hotels there easily. In Florida it's a lottery to get any type of shelter because there is just too many homeless and too little funds to help them.

But I also think that our newer generations thinks that its ok not to work hard, that its ok to be fat, that its ok live in your parent’s basement at 30, 40, etc. I dont mean that we should make fun of anyone that is have difficult times in our lives. We should help if we can. Having homeless on the streets of America is unacceptable.

I live in Sarasota, and we try to avoid driving down MLK. And prefer not to rent houses on that side.

dont worry, this isnt really about homeless, you just took a tour thru the black communities. Most of the areas are very old, but they are not all homeless.
The homeless community does not live in that area.
Our local Gov does renovations and improvements in their areas.

This video doesn't represent the city as a whole and is misleading. The two blocks shown in this video near the salvation army have nothing to do with the governor. Context is important.

this was the older sections of the black communities. Thats normal for those areas. Sarasota still has some old areas, not all are black communities, some are quite old and nice.
I live in one and my house was made in 1947. Was a very nice neighborhood back in the old days. Today its a lower working class, family, multi cultural hood.

I grew up in Sarasota, in the 80's. It was always diverse, I had friends from all groups and I'm half Puerto Rican myself. I loved growing up there. We were poor, didn't have a\c, our rental house was falling apart around us... But Sarasota was a great place to grow up, my family is still there, I just moved a little further south. Our current neighborhood is diverse as well, which was something I missed when I lived up north for a few years. My childhood neighborhood is one of the older ones in srq, not far from where this video was taken. My bike may have been stolen, but all the neighbors chipped in to help my mom get me a new one. It was a good place.
